Warren Zevon "Lawyers, Guns and Money"

Well, I went home with the waitress
    The way I always do
    How was I to know
She was with the Russians, too

    I was gambling in Havana
    I took a little risk
    Send lawyers, guns and money
Dad, get me out of this

    I'm the innocent bystander
    Somehow I got stuck
Between the rock and the hard place
And I'm down on my luck
And I'm down on my luck
And I'm down on my luck

    Now I'm hiding in Honduras
    I'm a desperate man
    Send lawyers, guns and money
The shit has hit the fan

    Send lawyers, guns and money...
"What's one more torpedo in a sinking ship?"
    Lynn Dickey, 1984

"Never apologize, mister. It's a sign of weakness."

The God that failed, by Metallica

      Pride you took
      Pride you feel
Pride that you felt when you'd kneel

      Not the word
      Not the love
Not what you thought from above

      It feeds
      It grows
It clouds all that you will know
      Deceit
      Deceive
      Decide just what you believe

I see faith in your eyes
Never your hear the discouraging lies
I hear faith in your cries
      Broken is the promise, betrayal
The healing hand held back by the deepened nail

      Follow the God that failed

      Find your peace
      Find your say
Find the smooth road in your way

      Trust you gave
      A child to save
Left you cold and him in grave

      It feeds
      It grows
It clouds all that you will know
      Deceit
      Deceive
      Decide just what you believe

I see faith in your eyes
Never you hear the discouraging lies
I hear faith in your cries
      Broken is the promise, betrayal
The healing hand held back by the deepened nail

      Follow the God that failed

I see faith in your eyes
      Broken is the promise, betrayal
The healing hand held back by the deepened nail

      Follow the God that failed

      Pride you took
      Pride you feel
Pride that you felt when you'd kneel

      Trust you gave
      A child to save
Left you cold and him in grave

I see faith in your eyes
Never you hear the discouraging lies
I hear faith in your cries
      Broken is the promise, betrayal
The healing hand held back by deepened nail

      Follow the God that failed

This song reminds me of the perceived corruption of popular religion, a sticking point for me personally

I really hated Wings, and truthfully I ain't that big of a McCartney fan except for his brilliance with writing music and performing, I pretty much think he is an asshole. When Guns and Roses came out with this song, I thought it was the most fantastic thing I ever heard, then I listened to the Wings version and I now have to go back to the original even though it is fucking Wings.

When you were young and your heart was an open book
You used to say live and let live
        You know you did
        You know you did
        You know you did
But if this ever-changing world in which we live in
Makes you give in and cry

        Chorus
        Say live and let die
        Live and let die
        Live and let die
        Live and let die

What does it matter to ya?
When you gotta job to do
        You gotta do it well
You gotta give the other fellow hell

You used to say live and let live
        You know you did
        You know you did
        You know you did
But if this ever-changing world in which we live in
Makes you give in and cry

Actually, it was a joke. I was talking about the band they were named after. They had a different name, but there was some band named "Ezra" in New Orleans that got more pub, so they renamed their band "Better Than Ezra."
You know, for as long as I've been a fan, I've never heard that story. I really didn't know where their name came from. Guess I didn't research. Thanks for the joke and the info.

            Is it getting better
Or do you feel the same
Will it make it easier on you
Now you got someone to blame

            You say
            One love
            One life
            When it’s one need
            In the night
            It’s one love
            We get to share it
            It leaves you baby
If you don’t care for it

            Did I disappoint you?
Or leave a bad taste in your mouth?
You act like you never had love
And you want me to go without

            Well it’s too late
            Tonight
            To drag tha past out
            Into the light
            We’re one
            But we’re not the same
We get to carry each other
            Carry each other
            One

Have you come here for forgiveness
Have you come tor raise the dead
Havew you come here to play jesus
To the lepers in your head
            Did I ask too much
            More than a lot
            You gave me nothing
            Now it’s all I got
            We’re one
            But we’re not the same
            We hurt each other
            Then we do it again

            You say
            Love is a temple
            Love a higher law
            Love is a temple
            Love the higher law
            You ask me to enter
But then you make me crawl
And I can’t be holding on
            To what you got
When all you got is hurt

            One love
            One blood
            One life
You got to do what you should

            One life
            With each other
            Sisters
            Brothers

            One life
            But we’re not the same
We get to carry each other
            Carry each other

            One

            One.

Please, Post the song title and artist. As well as, the reason it is memorable to you. even if it as simple as, Little billy started throwing food all over this morning at breakfast and i told him to eat it. which made me think of the song by Wierd Al called EAT IT, which is a parody of MJ's Beat it. See what i'm getting at??

Zig, please excuse Whiskey for his "redneckedness". He wouldn't know one of the best U2 songs ever written ("One").

What if I suck both? And at the same time? Think the universe would collapse upon itself?

Or maybe I'd get my dog back, my girl back, my truck back and a fresh sickpack....

(I'm not much of a U2 fan either. I think they're overblown, especially in the last couple of years. But I know that song.)

Heck yeah. I'm a U2 GOD compared to you!

But, umm, not really, because if you asked me a single question about country music, I wouldn't have the answer.

Okay, I remembered the artist and title, I just forgot the personal significance thing. So here goes:

My Own Worst Enemy is kind of my "anthem". Because I've frequently regretted things I've said the night before, have woken up fully dressed, and have had an occasion or two of "where the hell did I park".

Lawyers, Guns and Money came to me when I was driving to the police station one day to bail out a friend, who had been picked up for unpaid traffic tickets...several hundred dollars worth of unpaid traffic tickets.
He got picked up by the police while trying to break up a fight. When he gave his name, they ran a check, found out about his tickets and hauled him off to jail. No good deed goes unpunished.
