I've just had a snoutful of Pearl Jam. There was an interminable, 2-hour documentary on Pearl Jam on PBS "Great Performances." Then last night I watched an hour-long Austin City Limits.
The best I can say about that group is that I kinda like them. Eddie Veder can sing well on quieter songs. But to me, the hard rock is too much Michael Bolton shouting and grimacing. I like the drummer. They have a guitar player that can play Hendrixesque psychedelia when they let him, but mostly it is boring riffs.
I want to like them more, but I keep wanting Nirvana, a more interesting band to me.Comment

Neko Case has a nice voice for that cover. God I love that song, "little red wagon, litte red bike, I ain't no monkey but I know what I like, I love the way, you love me strong and slow."
The Sly Stone cover - I don't know, that song needs the grit of the masta, best leave that one alone.Comment

nice R.E.M. song. They can't make bad music cause of vocals. not many good singers in the world, let alone great ones.
not sure who the great vocalists are in pop today. I heard a good one the other day ....

That song sure has a nostalgic, retrospective feel to it. Makes me actually feel good about the band again. I still remember exactly where I was when I was driving along listening to MSOE's radio station and heard the first 5 seconds of Radio Free Europe; I was 18 years old. I bought every album that came out for the next 8 years and played them until the needle practically went through the vinyl....then they seemed to jump the shark; they were everywhere, become redundant.
