2112 got me big time. Huge Rush fan ever since. Do you have any of the DVDs they have put out? Rush in Rio and 30 both kick ass.

      Hey!

I thought you meant Rush Limbaugh!

I was more about Pink Floyd and Led Zepplin than those guys.

Rush is probably one of the most talented 3 piece acts of all time.

(I think Primus can whoop 'em tho)

I hate dude's voice tho - and that has kept me from being a "hardcore" rush fan.

I just wish I could get a copy of their entire catalog without vocals.

Rush is completely overblown and pretentious. Awful. Utterly awful. Misunderstand everything that's vital about rock 'n' roll. Good technical skills, but their music is a triumph of precision over passion.

As Stephen Malkmus of Pavement said in "Stereo" (Brighten the Corners, 1997), "What about the voice of Geddy Lee/ How did it get so high/ I wonder if he talks like an ordinary guy."

Not saying you didn't like them. Just bad taste or unrefined.

Of course alot of people don't follow my train of thought. Most people are idiots.

Most people are reading Dan Brown books or the Left Behind series instead of the works of Robbins, Irving, Bellow, etc. Would your contention be that because Brown sells more he is a better writer?

Rush sells more cds than Beethoven or Bach. Guess those two are pikers compared to Rush.

I gave an opinion..that they are technically proficient, but lacking passion. I haven't read anyone that can rebuke that point.

Rush is Rush. Period. Not Bach, The Beatles, Miles or whoever. They are technically proficient of that there is no doubt, but they do not lack passion. The first Rush concerts were meant to be just like the Albums...note for note. Crazy? Dispassionate? No......You don't like it? Fine, but statements like "misunderstand everything that's vital about rock and roll" please.... I know from previous posts you are much more broad/open minded than that. Its music........right?

Don’t get me started on shit like the left behind series, nothing more dangerous or evil than blind faith and complete religious intolerance. Bush anyone?

Wrong! I have heard some seriously powerful Rap and Hip-Hop is something I'm still trying to figure out. How does one know when they are hearing Hip-Hop? Are bunnies bound to be near?

Sounds like typical Rolling Stone boiler plate. Some people just don't like technically pure/highly arranged music. Rolling Stone and seemingly Ty don't like that ype of music. Thought the same thing about 'Boston.' Want music with an 'edge.' Pretentious? perhaps. Lacking passion? 2112 lacks passion? Red Barchetta. Trees. I think I'm going bald! Interesting - Rush repeatedly sings about loss of personal freedoms to the machine of technology and totalitarianism, they sing about life's passages and they lack passion? Geddy Lee is an aquired taste (or not). Neal Peart is probably one of the smartest guys in rock ever. But, as someone mentioned, music is about taste, and if you don't like Rush, I have no problem with that. But precision OVER passion? Hardly. You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice. If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice. You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill. I will choose a path that's clear, I will choose free will. (and Rush).
