I am getting smashed on my PC

Somebbody, please help.

My Old PC crashed, but I saved the hard drive and was able to insert it into my new PC and retrieve my old files.

But, my firewall is lettALL KINDS OF SHIT through. yping on the forum is a nightmare, because I am constantly being attacked by something. Some page. Often Porn, which I cannot need with a teenage son and daughter!


I am so un Techie, I need some help!

Wish I could help, but I'm barely tech literate myself. I had a computer go belly up a little while back, and my solution was to trash it and buy a new one. The old one's now set aside for future destruction.

Think "Fax machine in Office Space," only with lots of guns, rather than a baseball bat. It's a lot of fun, and very cathartic.

If you have service pack 2 in XP or Vista enable the windows firewall and set it so you approve all connections and such..it is a pain at first but once you get it dialed in its not a problem. I am using a old firewall from Kerio that you can get from their archives.

I don't think the firewall is letting things through, I think the things are already on the machine.

download lavasofts free spyware blocker and follow the directions. sounds like you are infected with spyware to me.

Follow this link. Join the forum and follow the directions as best you can to this thread. Tell Crockett that "numb' sent ya (that be me). This is by far the most complete and effective way to rid your machine of hijacks, spyware, bloatware, etc....

Ad Aware and spybot as a combo seems to clean most spyware.

AVG Free is a good antivirus. Its free and its not as resource hungry as McAfee or Symantec.

More geared to techies, but one of the best programs to combat this sort of issue is HiJackThis. You can download it by going to download.com and search for "hijackthis", you can also read a review and get more info about the program at that site.

If you are fluent in German, you can go to hijackthis-forum.de to post log results and get feedback from experts.

Good luck, that can be a serious pain in the ass.

Extra HUGE word of caution though if you do look at using HiJack This!........Do not, and I mean DO NOT make any changes to your rig with that program until you have people that know what they are doing examine the log made. You can irreversibly harm you machine to where notihng but a complete reformat will bring it back. Even the 2-3 online log scanners are not 100% reliable. ALWAYS go to a site like worldstart (the link from my first reply) and have someone there analyze it for you. There are a ton of people there that are more than happy to help you out.
