The Portland, OR Metro area had a high of 102 degrees yesterday.
What is more threatening is the fire danger to the eastern half of the state. Most people unfamiliar with the eastern half do not realize that eastern Oregon has high rolling hills and is much drier than the western half of the state.
Last night, the weather service reported there were over 1,500 lightning strikes in the eastern half of the state--some of them resulting in fires. More lightning strikes are predicted for tonight.
