  • Classic Hip-hop

I am having a party on Friday night and need some suggestions on some classic hip-hop from the early 1990s.

Any song suggestions would be much appreciated.

For what its worth, I have a mental image of Zool just dominating this thread and being able to rattle off song after song.

Here is something kinda romantic to play at the end of the evening when things are winding down and everyone is hooking up.

early 90's hip-hop was the best!

      The Humpty Dance.....
      It Takes Two....
      Push It....

sad thing is, I can still recite so much of that word for word.

                            Finally - my wheelhouse.

I could be up all night. Probably more traditional rap than hip hop in my list, and this might not be all 90's.

                            Mainstream -

                            OPP by Naughty by Nature
                            Summertime - Fresh Prince
Bust a Move - Young MC
                            Wildthing - Tone Loc
Baby Got Back - Sir MixAlot
Can't touch this - MC Hammer
                            Gangsta's Paradise - Coolio
Me So Horny - 2 Live Crew
Insane in the Brain - Cypress Hill
                            Poison - Bell Biv Devoe

slightly more obscure, group first with some of my individual favorites in parentheses, although you really can't go wrong with anything -

                            kid n play (two hype)
kool moe dee (how ya like me now)
                            big daddy kane (raw)
eric b and rakim (paid in full)
                            snap (the power)
                            biz markie (just a friend)
                            paperboy (ditty)
                            candyman (knockin' boots)
digital underground (freaks of the industry)
above the law (freedom of speech)
                            the d.o.c. (the formula)

                            a little edgier -

                            nwa, eazy, cube (anything)
                            ice t (new jack hustler)
geto boys (do it like a g.o.)
                            PE (don't believe the hype)
                            slick rick (children's story)
too short (don't fight the feeling)

Before closing the night with the great Eazy love ballad Mad linked, play the ultimate dated, cheesy by modern standards "We're all in the same gang" - the "We are the World" of 80's/90's rap.
