If you get stung by one of these two things can happen.
You die
OR
You are in the most excruciating pain of your life.
Bull sharks are probably your main concern though, because they swim in shallow water. New Smyrna beach does have the most recorded shark attacks in the world. The safest beaches in Florida are in the SW area, where I live. In Naples there has never been a reported shark attack. They just don't venture into our waters."I've got one word for you- Dallas, Texas, Super Bowl"- Jermichael Finley

Jesus Christ, those Man O Wars are ugly!
I am not too concerned about the shark attacks. I mean there are like 1000 people there a day and rarely are attacks. As long as you keep a buddy near by you probably won't have any serious damage if you get bit anyway.

Just don't make yourself look like a target. Don't splash around, don't doggy paddle, don't just lie there on a surfboard. Bull Sharks at New Smyrna don't usually kill people, they're curious young sharks. They bite and then let go. They can still leave a nice scar. If you are bit by an adult bull, you most probably will bleed to death. They can take a pretty big chunk out of you.Originally posted by PartialJesus Christ, those Man O Wars are ugly!

Just be aware of your surroundings and you should be fine."I've got one word for you- Dallas, Texas, Super Bowl"- Jermichael Finley

They only people I know that wear water shoes are young kids and senior citizens.Originally posted by PartialShould I get some of those water shoes before going into the ocean or is going barefoot the way to go?
I don't know if there are a bunch of pointy rocks and whatnot.
There are some rocks here and there, but you're not going to lose your toenails over them. You may have to walk over some shells and rocks to get into and out of the water, but you take it like a man.

Right thats what I normally do. However, at the Ichechtuknee river or whatever we were pretty much the only ones without them.Originally posted by BallHawkThey only people I know that wear water shoes are young kids and senior citizens.Originally posted by PartialShould I get some of those water shoes before going into the ocean or is going barefoot the way to go?

Freakin' awesome trip.
We went body boarding and attempted surfing at New Smyrna during the day. There were decent sized waves.
Then, around 3 we went to Daytona Beach where their were HUGE freaking waves so much so the lifeguards were pulling people back. Body boarding was ridiculously fun here!!

There is a discount Disney ticket booth on every block of Orlando. It's not going to be a problem finding tickets.Originally posted by PartialIs downtown disney and pleasure island free? Also, where is a good place to get discounted disney tickets? I want to be able to get into the water parks if possible.
We're going to Cocoa Beach on Sunday and Disney on Saturday.
Downtown Disney is free, except for some areas. I don't think you'd be interested in those areas, though. Pleasure Island costs about a little over $20 per person to get in, but that gets you admission to all the clubs.
In regards to the water parks, if you really want to go to a Disney water park, you'll be able to find tickets no problem. They even include them in some admission tickets to Disney World itself.
However, if you just want a good water park, Wet N' Wild is worth checking out. It gets a lot less traffic then Disney, but the rides are just as good, maybe better. That costs about $30 per person."I've got one word for you- Dallas, Texas, Super Bowl"- Jermichael Finley

Awww, I'm jealous. My fav little seafood place is in Cocoa Beach. It's called Rusty's Raw Bar. Not much to look at, but awesome seafood. Check out Coconuts On the Beach, too. Oh yeah and all tourists must go to Ron Jon's!
BH, I'm just curious as to how much Disney charges for a day pass these days? They've gotta be pushing $70 now, eh? Last time I was there, it was $61 and that was a few years back. Plus they have all these options now, makes it kinda confusing!
