Thought I'd start a thread for this. This is my hometown; pretty horrible stuff.

    UPDATE: Gunman still on loose

As many as six young people are dead after a man went on a shooting rampage in the small town of Crandon. The gunman is still on the loose, according to elected officials and townspeople.

The Forest County Sheriff's Department is not releasing any information yet, but word is spreading fast around the town of 2,000, said Paul Wagoner, a Crandon City Council member and supervisor on the Forest County Board.

Wagoner said the suspect works for the sheriff's department.

People in the town said they heard that the gunman has not yet been apprehended. The shooter opened fire early this morning at a party in a local house.

The victims are said to be between 16 and 21 years old. Families of the victims are gathering at a local church and are waiting to hear more information.

"Being that it's a close town, it's going to affect nearly everyone," Wagoner said.

As Many As 6 Dead in Forest County Shooting; Suspect is Law Enforcement Officer

      By Chris Lato

Reports indicate as many as six people are dead in a shooting rampage in Crandon, Wisconsin. The suspect is reportedly with the Forest County Sheriff's Department. At least report authorities were still trying to hunt him down.

Authorities say this is a fatal shooting - a witness says just before 3 am gunfire erupted at a home in Crandon. A witness says 10 area youths between 17 and 20 were at the home, and one suspect, the law enforcement officer, fired all the shots.

At this time, authorities are still trying to apprehend the suspect, considered armed and dangerous, and who may be on foot.

The whole neighborhood was still on lockdown as of mid-morning. There are varying reports on the number of those injured and fatalities - numbers are not confirmed at this time, and it was not immediately confirmed what sparked this shooting.

          Thanks Harvey.

It skips a generation for me; the 6 victims are all quite a bit younger than I and my wife, and their parents are quite a bit older, but in general for such a small knit community everybody knows everybody.

I'm hearing from people back home that their is an even worse twist to the story coming, but again I don't want to spread gossip. I'll keep posting as I hear more confirmed reports.

I've heard reports that it was over an ex-girlfriend. It could be a myth, but that's what I've heard.

There is always a female involved in these things that is the source of all the trouble.

Misperceptions, miscommunications, misinterpretations, and outright lies when your "playing with dynamite" leads to disasterous results.

How does some inexperienced kid age 20 get to be a law enforcement officer??

Did a female lose it and pull the trigger?

That's been shown to be true, but he also shot his two best friends he had while growing up, and he was the nephew of one or two of the other victims.

this is all effed-up for sure.
