Round 1 - Pick 1
@TBBuccaneers select Jameis Winston, QB, Florida State #NFLDraft
Bio
Winston boasts a 26-1 record during his string of 27 starting assignments, as the 2013 Heisman Trophy winner finished sixth in the voting for that award in 2014…Completed 562-of-851 passes (66.04%) for 7,964 yards, 65 touchdowns and 28 interceptions, as he also gained 284 yards and scored seven times on 145 carries (1.96 ypc) to finish his career with 8,243 yards in total offense via 996 plays, as he was responsible for 72 touchdowns… In addition to having 28 of his pass attempts picked off, opponents also deflected 102 of his other tosses (total of 130 of his passes were defended, 15.28% of his throws), he also fumbled thirteen times, with the opposition recovering four of those miscues. Winston became the tenth player in NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision history to record a passing efficiency rating of 180.0 in a season, as his 2013 figure of 184.8 is good for fourth on that chart behind Russell Wilson of Wisconsin (191.8 in 2011), Robert Griffin III of Baylor (189.5 in 2011) and Colt Brennan of Hawaii (186.0 in 2006).
EVALUATION
To most scouts, Winston possesses all the tools you look for in a pro passer – impressive size, decent mobility and a cannon-like arm. He has a quick over-the-top release that sees him consistently connect when heading down field, as he displays that rare quality to “thread the needle.” He has good balance to throw on the move and enough functional foot speed to be a running threat. That confidence in his scrambling ability does lead to trouble though, as he is often too quick to bolt the pocket rather than scan the field.

From PFF:
Tampa Bay Buccaneers select Jameis Winston, 1st Overall
No surprises here as the Bucs make Jameis Winston the face of their franchise. He’s coming off a pretty average 2014 season and comes with a lot of baggage, but if you go back and watch his 2013 season then this pick is a slam dunk. Steve Palazzolo broke Winston down in great detail here and it would be a surprise if he isn’t starting come Week 1 with only Mike Glennon in his way. Winston has earned comparisons to Matt Ryan and Ben Roethlisberger with his play, with his Roethlisberger like ability for keeping plays alive highlighted by how only 12.1% of the plays he was pressured on turned into sacks against Power-5 teams. That was the third best number out there.

Mariota holds the rare distinction for being the only Oregon quarterback to start every game (41) during his career, as he completed 779-of-1,167 passes (66.75%) for 10,796 yards, 105 touchdowns and only 14 interceptions, averaging 263.32 aerial yards per game…The junior carried the ball 337 times for 2,237 yards (6.64 ypc) and 29 touchdowns. Mariota had just 1.20% of his pass attempts intercepted (14-of-1,167), breaking the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision record of 1.43% by Geno Smith of West Virginia. His average gain of 8.67 yards per play (total offense) was just shy of the NCAA all-time record of 8.70 yards by Sam Bradford of Oklahoma. Among active players in the major college ranks, Mariota leads that group in passing efficiency (171.75 rating), average gain per total offense play (8.67), ranking third for touchdown passes (105), yards gained per game (317.88 total offense) and touchdowns responsible for (136), as he is one of only four players in college at all levels to throw for at least 4,000 yards and rush for at least 1,000 yards in a career…Mariota won the 2014 Heisman Trophy.
EVALUATION
Mariota has above average lower and upper body mechanics, showing quickness in his pass set. He shows good mobility getting back quickly to set up and unlike most West Coast/spread quarterbacks, looks very comfortable lining up under center rather than in the shotgun. He shows a snappy overhead release. Even when he carries the ball lower than ideal when moving out of the pocket, he shows good zip behind his tosses.

2. MARCUS MARIOTA | Oregon 6036|222 lbs|4JR Honolulu, Hawaii (St. Louis HS) 10/30/1993 (age 21) #8
BACKGROUND: Mariota was mostly unknown as a high school recruit because he didn’t see the field until his senior season, but Oregon had the inside track after seeing him at a quarterback camp and offered him a scholarship as a junior before he started a high school game. He was the 2010 Hawaii Gatorade Player of the Year (2,597 passing yards, 64.7% completions, 39 total touchdowns, 11-1 record) and was officially a three-star recruit, choosing the Ducks over only one other scholarship offer (Memphis). With Darron Thomas entrenched as the starter, Mariota redshirted in 2011 and beat out Bryan Bennett for the starting job in 2012, becoming the first freshman to start the season opener for Oregon since 1991. He was the Pac-12 Offensive Freshman of the Year and earned First Team All-Pac 12 honors with 68.5% completions, 2,677 passing yards, 38 total touchdowns (32 passing, five receiving, one receiving) and six interceptions. Mariota became the first Oregon player to surpass 4,000 yards of total offense (4,380) as a sophomore in 2013, finishing with 63.5% completions, 40 total touchdowns (31 passing, nine rushing) and four interceptions, earning First Team All-Pac 12 honors. He had his most productive season in 2014 with 5,250 yards of total offense (4,454 passing, 770 rushing, 26 receiving), 68.3% completions, 42:4 TD:INT ratio as a passer and 15 rushing touchdowns. Mariota became the first Oregon player to win the Heisman Trophy, also adding the Davey O’Brien and Johnny Unitas Golden Arm awards to his trophy case, earning First Team All-American and All-Pac 12 honors. He decided to bypass his final year of college eligibility to enter the 2015 NFL Draft and declined an invitation to the 2015 Senior Bowl.
STRENGTHS: Terrific foot quickness and lower body athleticism with gazelle-like speed, forcing defenders to respect his athletic range…fearless, but smart and tough ballcarrier, using his speed to erase pursuit angles and pick up chunk yardage…slippery in the pocket to improvise on the move to keep plays alive, showing the start/stop quickness to make controlled moves before turning on the afterburners…quick pocket footwork and throws strikes on the move…adequate height for the position and has done a nice job filling out his frame with lean muscle…enough arm strength to make all the NFL throws with the needed zip and velocity…efficient set-up, release and delivery and the ball shoots off his hand with unforced motion…improved eye use and field vision to scan and hold safeties with experience working through progressions in Oregon’s offense…processes the action with excellent reaction awareness to diagnose, reading and finding vulnerable match-ups – showed improved anticipation in 2014…nice downfield touch to drop the ball in the bucket…highly intelligent and a quick learner with studious habits that translate on and off the field – graduated in three-and-a-half years with a degree in general science (GPA of 3.22)…coaches rave about his preparation traits and ability to retain and digest information…grounded character with a strong grasp of the mental aspect of football and life – comfortable in his own skin and always in control…durable and will fight through minor injuries, playing in every game (41 starts) the last three seasons for the Ducks…holds almost every passing record at Oregon and one of only four FBS players to pass for 10,000+ yards and run for 2,000+ yards in a career – also holds the Pac-12 records for total touchdowns in a career (136) and season (58) and consecutive pass attempts without an interception (353).
WEAKNESSES: Lacks ideal build and body mass and doesn’t have the power to routinely break tackles as a ballcarrier…doesn’t consistently incorporate his footwork and properly use his hips in his delivery – inexperienced taking snaps under center (single digit snaps under center at Oregon)…questionable pocket presence and his internal clock needs time to mature at the next level, taking too many hits in the pocket by holding the ball too long – too many sacks are because of his inconsistent feel in the pocket…needs to do a better job recognizing pressures pre-snap to speed up his process…ball placement runs hot/cold, missing too many open targets, even with a clean pocket…will panic when the walls close in and doesn’t consistently make clutch throws while under pressure…a lot of pre-determined reads in Oregon’s offense and wasn’t asked to make many tight window throws – benefited from a lot of open reads due to Oregon’s spread offense…doesn’t consistently see all 11 defenders or anticipate coverages…ball security questions (27 fumbles over the last three seasons)…quiet individual and lack of vocal leadership skills will be a turn off for some…leaner-than-ideal body type leads to durability concerns.
SUMMARY: The most decorated player in Oregon history, Mariota finished with a 36-5 record (.878) as the Ducks’ starter and leaves Eugene with double-digit school records, including total offense (13,061), passing yards (10,796), completions (779), completion percentage (66.8%) and total touchdowns (136) – accounted for at least three touchdowns in 30 of 41 starts (29-1 record in those games). He is a dangerous dual-threat with above average natural athleticism and enough arm strength to spray the ball to all levels of the field. He operated out of a shotgun, spread offense at Oregon with a lot of zone reads and easy progressions, but still struggled with ball placement downfield, making it very tough to accurately predict his transition at the NFL level when he’s asked to do things he didn’t have to worry about in college. Mariota has to refine his mechanics in certain areas, notably his footwork and eye use, especially under pressure. He has very nondescript mannerisms and lacks an alpha male personality, but displays leadership traits through his resilient and efficient play on the field, also showing elite character and intelligence. Mariota has durability concerns due to his leaner-than-ideal body type and ideally needs to redshirt as a NFL rookie because of the jump he faces going from Oregon to a pro-style scheme. When isolating the physical and mental traits, it’s all there for Mariota to be successful at the next level in the mold of a Colin Kaepernick style passer and, although he will need time, he’s worth a top-10 pick.

Round 1 - Pick 3
@Jaguars select Dante Fowler Jr, DE, Florida
Scout.com
Bio
Fowler started 25-of-37 games at Florida’s “buck” position, where he recorded 140 tackles (73 solos) with 14.5 sacks for minus 109 yards, ranking 12th in school history with 33.5 stops for losses totaling 156 yards…Registered 25 quarterback pressures, as he caused five fumbles and recovered two others, including advancing one turnover 27 yards…Also deflected three passes.
EVALUATION
When Fowler keeps his hand down, he can fire off the snap and take on the offensive tackle with good leverage, but will get driven off the line when he gets too tall in his stance. He has the feet to disengage vs. lead blockers, but is best when slipping blocks by lineman rather than try to engage them in battle. When he fails to keep his hands active, he exposes too much of his body and will get stuck on blocks.

1. DANTE FOWLER | Florida 6025|261 lbs|3JR St. Petersburg, Fla. (Lakewood Senior HS) 8/3/1994 (age 20) #6
BACKGROUND: A five-star defensive end recruit out of high school, Fowler was committed to Florida State for 14 months, but changed his mind on signing day, switching his pledge to the Gators. He was a valuable defensive line reserve as a true freshman in 2012 and tallied 30 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. Fowler became a full-time starter at defensive end in 2013 and led the team with 10.5 tackles for loss with 50 tackles, 3.5 sacks and three forced fumbles, earning Second Team All-SEC honors. He moved to “BUCK” outside linebacker as a junior in 2014 and started all 12 games, finishing with a team-best 15.0 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks, earning First Team All-SEC honors. Fowler announced his decision to leave school early for the 2015 NFL Draft.
STRENGTHS: Athletic frame and smooth muscled with power through his hips…long arms to rip and strong hands to finish…awesome get-off explosion to shake blockers in space, using his natural burst, dip and momentum to close in the backfield…quick plant-and-drive pursuit to easily redirect without wasted movements…relentless energy to attack gaps and find slivers of space at the line of scrimmage, infiltrating the pocket…takes on contact with violent hands at the point of attack, using his physical presence and active style to only be blocked for so long – has no problem working through bodies…experience dropping in coverage and handling some cover assignments, picking up the running back out of the backfield…versatile experience, putting his hand on the ground and standing up – was used all over the front-seven in Will Muschamp’s multiple defense…enjoys contact and always looking for someone to hit – made the difference on some fumble returns, blocking after the turnover…ferocious playing temperament and leaves it all on the field with nonstop pursuit through the whistle…very loose personality and comfortable in his own skin with a confident demeanor…coachable with a healthy appetite for football – lives inside the football facilities…resided on the other side of the line of scrimmage as a starter with 34.0 career tackles for loss in 25 starts.
WEAKNESSES: Aggressive at the point of attack, but can be controlled in the run game and offenses are not afraid to run to his side…needs to develop his awareness, discipline and stack/shed ability as a run defender…struggles to lock out and hold the edge or gain body position as blockers are able to engage and drive him on his heels…needs to improve his pad level and functional strength to consistently swat…needs to better marry his upper and lower body and have a consistent plan as a pass rusher, not always stringing moves together – frenetic eyes and needs to better use all his assets simultaneously…needs to develop his secondary moves to keep blockers guessing if he doesn’t win with his first step…will move too fast at times, overpursuing the action and allowing mental mistakes.
SUMMARY: A true defensive playmaker, Fowler was the MVP of the Gators front-seven the past two seasons and blossomed in Will Muschamp’s multiple 3-4/4-3 scheme that developed his versatility, especially in 2014 as the “BUCK” defensive end/outside linebacker, standing up and playing in the three point stance. He is explosive and gets upfield in a blink with the foot quickness and active hands to avoid blockers, making it tough to contain him. Fowler attacks blockers with excellent take-on strength, but can be run at and needs to improve his stack/shed technique. He needs to stay controlled and improve his overall pass rush plan, but he stresses offenses with his relentless energy and tremendous play speed to be disruptive – ideally suited as a stand-up outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense and in the conversation to be the top defensive prospect in the 2015 class.

1. AMARI COOPER | Alabama 6007|211 lbs|3JR Miami, Fla. (Northwestern HS) 6/18/1994 (age 20) #9
BACKGROUND: A four-star wide receiver recruit out of high school, Cooper narrowed his college choice to Alabama, Florida State and West Virginia, committing to the Crimson Tide prior to his senior season. He started his true freshman season coming off the bench, but started the final nine games in 2012 and led the team in receiving with 59 receptions, 1,000 yards and 11 touchdowns, setting school freshman records in each category, earning consensus Freshman All-American honors. Cooper battled injuries as a sophomore, but was healthy later in the season, finishing 2013 with 45 catches for 736 yards and four scores. He was a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2014 as a junior with a SEC and school-record 124 catches. His 1,727 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns are both Alabama records, earning First Team AllAmerican and All-SEC honors. As expected, Cooper decided to make the jump to the NFL and enter the draft early.
STRENGTHS: Flexible athlete with excellent route quickness to chew up cushions and extra gears downfield to create separation…elite body control and fluid movements to make natural adjustments on the ball…tough to jam with quick feet off the snap…coordinated ballskills and quick hands to snatch-and-go with a sizeable catching radius…tracks well over his shoulder and attacks with his hands, not allowing the ball to reach his body…balanced route-runner with synchronized hesitation and shake at the top of his routes, understanding how to set up his moves and sell his patterns – showed clear improvement in this area the last three seasons…catches the ball well in stride with the hand/eye coordination and sense of surroundings to work along the sideline…shows vision and quick-thinking moves to elude defenders in space and create with galloping speed…adequate body strength to be a finisher as a ballcarrier…secures the ball like a newborn, cradling and protecting – zero career fumbles on 234 career touches…humble and motivated worker – quality teammate, won’t rock the boat…led Alabama in receiving each of the last three seasons, becoming just the fourth pass-catcher in school history to break the 1,000-yard receiving mark (did it twice) – leaves Tuscaloosa with career records in catches (228), receiving yards (3,463) and receiving scores (31)…rewrote the SEC record books in 2014, finishing first in catches (124), second in receiving yards (1,727) and third in receiving touchdowns (16) on the all-time ranks.
WEAKNESSES: Only average size and frame with lanky muscle tone…limited functional strength and can be re-routed at the line of scrimmage, failing to properly use his hands…fights the ball at times with the occasional focus drop – alligator arms over the middle and tends to think too much before the catch…not consistently aggressive at the catch point and needs to improve his physicality to gain body position downfield…has some lazy tendencies with his routes, especially if the play isn’t designed for him, and needs to improve his improvisational skills when initial pattern is taken away…streaky effort as a blocker…durability isn’t a glaring issue, but he has been hampered with nagging injuries the last two years, most notably to his foot/toe (Aug. 2013) and bruised left knee (Nov. 2014).
SUMMARY: The most accomplished and productive receiver in Alabama history, Cooper has been the main target on the Crimson Tide offense the past few seasons, lining up inside, outside and in the backfield – elite production in college football’s premier conference. He is an above average route runner and pays attention to the subtleties of the position to manufacture quick momentum and keep defenders off-balance, gaining every advantage he can. Although his size/speed is more good than great, he is a savvy player who creates separation with his acceleration and thrives at the two most important aspects of the position: getting open and finishing catches. Although he’s not on the level of A.J. Green and Julio Jones as prospects, Cooper might be the “safest” prospect in this class because of his seasoned skill-set to be a consistent contributor with a Jeremy Maclin ceiling – potential No. 1 target with top-10 talent in this draft class

1. BRANDON SCHERFF | Iowa 6045|319 lbs|5SR Denison, Iowa (Denison HS) 12/26/1991 (age 23) #68
BACKGROUND: A three-star offensive tackle recruit out of high school, Scherff received scholarship offers from Nebraska, Missouri and Kansas State, but decided to stay in-state and committed to Iowa, the first school that offered him. After redshirting in 2010, he filled in at left guard for the Hawkeyes as a redshirt freshman in 2011, starting three games. Scherff moved to left tackle as a sophomore and started the first seven games of 2012 before a right leg injury prematurely ended his season. He returned healthy in 2013 and started all 13 games at left tackle, earning First Team All-Big Ten and All-American honors. Scherff bypassed the NFL to return for his senior season in Iowa City, starting all 13 games again at left tackle and winning the 2014 Outland Trophy. He was a consensus All-American and named the Rimington-Pace Offensive Lineman of the Year in the Big Ten, earning First Team All-Conference honors. Scherff received an invitation to the 2015 Senior Bowl, but declined.
STRENGTHS: Broad shouldered with a stout upper body, wide base and just enough arm length…nice job playing with his feet underneath him, showing a light lower body to shuffle laterally and pick up pressures…balanced and squares well to extend and attack the breast plate of his target with a strong initial punch…rolls his hips as a run defender, using stone hands and leg drive to move bodies – takes his man where he wants…has the grip strength to latch-and-control with the upper body power to keep separation between his reach and the target…good patience and discipline in his set-up, shifting his weight well and controlling his momentum as a pass protector…bursts out of his stance and quickly gets to the second level to throw his body around like a battering ram, getting into position to take out defenders on stretch and outside runs…assignment sound in the run game with improved technique and leverage as a pass blocker…physical, competitive finisher and enjoys the violence of the game, bringing it every snap with intensity that never wavers…plays decisive and sure of himself with consistent hustle…three-year starter (36 career starts) with experience at both tackle and guard, starting every game at left tackle the last two seasons…natural leadership traits with reliable intangibles.
WEAKNESSES: Squares well, but has hip and joint tightness, limiting his redirection skills…tends to lose leverage too easily due to his upright style and needs to play with more consistent pad level and anchor, especially in space where he is susceptible to inside counters and bull rushers who attack his body…lacks elite lateral quickness to routinely cut off speed on the edges…spotty timing and placement with is hands, lacking ideal arm length to quickly recover…will rely on his upper body strength at times and forfeit his technique…will attract penalties with his preference to grab and take down defenders…needs to mature his awareness skills pre-snap to recognize defensive movement and adjust accordingly – head ducker…minor durability concerns after a right knee scope (Sept. 2014), although he didn’t miss any games – missed the second half of his sophomore season after right leg surgery (Oct. 2012) to repair a broken fibula and dislocated ankle.
SUMMARY: A road grader in the run game with top-notch football character, Scherff is well-coached and his tape shows consistent improvement the last three seasons at left tackle for the Hawkeyes. He has above average balance and veracity as a blocker with an eager blocking attitude and finishing toughness, especially at the second level. Although he has lower body quickness and keeps his feet underneath him, Scherff has his hiccups in pass protection with only average range and length to handle speed and spacing responsibilities. He has enough skills to survive on the edges in the NFL, likely at right tackle, but his best position at the next level is inside at guard, which fits his skill-set and mind-set – safe player who can’t be drafted too early in the first round.

1. LEONARD WILLIAMS | USC 6045|302 lbs|3JR Daytona Beach, Fla. (Mainland HS) 6/20/1994 (age 20) #94
BACKGROUND: A four-star defensive line recruit out of high school, Leonard “Big Cat” Williams narrowed his college choice to USC or Florida, choosing to head west and commit to the Trojans. He made an immediate impact as a true freshman defensive tackle in 2012 (nine starts) with 64 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss and a careerhigh 8.0 sacks, earning Pac-12 Freshman of the Year honors. Williams started 13 games as a sophomore defensive end in 2013, recording 74 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss and 6.0 sacks, earning First Team All-Pac 12 honors and multiple All-American nods. He started all 13 games in 2014 as a junior and led the team in sacks (7.0) and forced fumbles (three), recording 80 tackles and 9.5 tackles for loss, earning First Team All-Pac 12 and All-American honors. Williams elected to bypass his senior season for the 2015 NFL Draft.
STRENGTHS: Well-built frame with broad shoulders, long arms and growth potential…above average flexibility and fluidity in his joints, hips and lower body to turn the edge and flatten like an edge rusher 50 pounds lighter…quick first step to attack gaps before blockers can react…rolls his hips at contact, punching in an upward motion to lift and toss blockers, converting speed to power…strings moves together, using grown man power, natural leverage and body control to maneuver through blocks and finish in the backfield – uses his upper and lower halves simultaneously and effectively…aggressive and active hands to swim and swat, using arm over/under technique…terrific range for the position with pursuit skills and closing burst to chase down ballcarriers from behind…excellent backfield vision and field awareness, recognizing offensive tendencies and knocking down passes at the line of scrimmage (nine career passes defended and two interceptions)…highly intelligent and anticipates well to put himself in position to make plays…scheme versatile with experience playing inside and outside…toughs out injuries and still effective when not at full health…finished second on the team in tackles the last two seasons with consistent production…level-headed and coachable with mature work ethic to take advantage of his natural gifts.
WEAKNESSES: Allows blockers to attack his breast plate and needs to keep his pad level low off the snap…inconsistent snap anticipation, late moving off the ball too often…average initial punch and needs to improve his timing…raw pass rush mechanics and needs to refine his rush moves – too predictable on tape…lacks ideal base strength in the run game and can be driven on his heels, struggling to sink-and-anchor…will abandon the edge and doesn’t consistently reset the line of scrimmage…minor durability concerns, missing one game as a sophomore with a right shoulder injury (Nov. 2013) that required postseason surgery to repair his torn labrum and kept him from lifting during the pre-draft process – played through a high left ankle sprain and sore left shoulder most of 2014.
SUMMARY: Due to his size, Williams couldn’t play football until high school (played rugby growing up) and played for three defensive coordinators and three defensive line coaches over his three years at USC so he is still a work-in-progress in several areas. But he has the body control and movement skills that cannot be taught with the natural size and strength to create havoc for blockers. Williams has versatile experience, lining up inside and outside on USC’s multiple fronts, which helped develop his versatility to fit any NFL scheme – best suited as a five technique in a 3-4 or three technique in a 4-3. He tends to wear himself out at times and needs to improve his snap anticipation, but plays through pain and is still a better player at 80% health than most others at full health. Williams isn’t yet a finished product, but he has all the physical and athletic ingredients to be a Pro Bowl caliber player if he becomes more consistent on each snap – the top-rated prospect in the 2015 class with sky high NFL potential and a high floor.

2. KEVIN WHITE | West Virginia 6025|215 lbs|4SR Plainfield, N.J. (Emmaus HS) 6/25/1992 (age 22) #11
BACKGROUND: White was a stand-out in high school, but didn’t have the grades and enrolled at Lackawanna College (Pa.) where he played two seasons and attracted the attention of several FBS schools, deciding to transfer to West Virginia over Texas Tech due to the offensive system and proximity to home. He started nine games as a junior in 2013, recording 35 catches for 507 yards and five scores. With a full year under his belt, White emerged as one of college football’s best wide receivers as a senior, finishing third in the FBS in catches (109) and sixth in receiving yards (1,447) in 2014, earning First Team All-Big 12 honors and several AllAmerican nods. White was invited to the 2015 Senior Bowl and initially accepted before deciding not to play.
STRENGTHS: Well-built for the position with good height and length…smooth athleticism in his patterns and after the catch, reaching his top speed quickly with excellent route acceleration…natural body control and outstanding concentration through the catch to be a reliable finisher…above average ballskills and adjustment skills to elevate and attack with power and a physical attitude – at his best highpointing in jump ball situations even with defenders draped all over him, plucking the ball away from his body with suction hands…efficient route runner with dynamic moves at the top of his routes, stacking cornerbacks and using body leverage to play the ball – emphatic depth and stems to sell and fool defenders…doesn’t slow at the catch point with the hand/eye coordination to secure in stride…good body strength to run through arm tackles and fight for every yard, keeping his momentum going forward and pumping his legs to fight for every inch…improved decisionmaker and reactive vision after the catch, showing nifty moves and sharp cuts to read blocks and create – knows where the sticks are…aggressive and willing blocker with a strong competitive spirit…gives consistent effort on and off the field as a student of the game…top shelf production as a senior, becoming the second player in program history to eclipse 1,400 receiving yards in a season and third player to hit triple digit receptions in a single season.
WEAKNESSES: Relies on his acceleration downfield, lacking ideal burst to create clear separation…won’t dance his way out of trouble or consistently make defenders miss in small spaces…shows the foot quickness to beat press at the line of scrimmage with a nice outside-in move, but rarely challenged or jammed in the Big 12 – methodical off press, counting his steps and not using his hands…will round some routes and needs to iron out some wrinkles with his patterns…good effort blocker, but struggles to consistently sustain and will get caught holding down the field…although it doesn’t happen often, he will have focus drops off his hands…only one year of top production in an offensive system that creates a number of opportunities.
SUMMARY: The best receiver in this draft class at attacking the ball, White is never truly covered with his ability in jump-ball situations to track and highpoint – high success rate in contested situations. He is a much improved route runner with an understanding of how to stack defenders and work back to the ball with excellent coordination. White lacked polish in 2013, but his light bulb is now at full glow – although his timed speed doesn’t always translate to the field, the game doesn’t move too fast for him. He doesn’t have the sudden burst to instantly create separation when he wants, but White has the instincts, ballskills and competitive nature needed to be a No. 1 target in a NFL offense – one of the top-seven players in the 2015 NFL Draft.

2. VIC BEASLEY | Clemson 6030|246 lbs|5SR Adairsville, Ga. (Adairsville HS) 7/8/1992 (age 22) #3
BACKGROUND: A three-star running back/tight end recruit out of high school, Victor “Vic” Beasley was recruited as an athlete and committed to Clemson prior to his senior season, fending off late interest from Alabama and Auburn. After redshirting in 2010, he saw limited playing time on special teams coverage, practicing on defense. Beasley didn’t start a game as a sophomore in 2012, but finished with eight sacks and 18 tackles as a reserve pass rusher for the Tigers. He started all 13 games in 2013 as a junior and recorded career-highs in tackles (44), tackles for loss (23.0), sacks (13.0) and forced fumbles (four), earning First Team All-ACC and AllAmerican honors. Beasley returned for his senior year and was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year, finishing with 34 tackles, 21.5 tackles for loss and 12.0 sacks, earning First Team All-ACC and All-American honors. He received a Senior Bowl invitation, but declined to participate.
STRENGTHS: Athletic, cut physique with easy flexibility and change of direction skills…sprints off the snap with sudden first-step quickness and instant acceleration to flatten around the edge…natural bend with smooth hips to play on his feet…explosive lateral movements and a mismatch for any blocker in space – very shifty to avoid contact and forces offenses to leave a back or tight end on his side to help chip…rangy pursuit speed and closes in a flash…processes the action quickly with little hesitation, appearing to move at a different speed…improved using his hands and inside shoulder to fend off arm bars, get underneath blockers and create leverage to win the edge, blowing up plays in the backfield…attacks the chest of blockers and puts them on their heels with initial pop…improved awareness and discipline – hyperactive player, but controlled in space to make stops…tougher than he looks with the point of attack strength and active motor to play the run…not vocal, but leads by example and goes about his business with a level-head and strong work habits…versatile experience with his hand on the ground and standing up in space…holds school record for career sacks (33.0), breaking the previous mark of 29.0 held by Michael Dean Perry and Gaines Adams – fourth in program history with 52.5 career tackles for loss…football bloodlines – father (Victor) played safety at Auburn (1982-84).
WEAKNESSES: Maxed out frame with shorter arms – added bulk during pre-draft process after playing at 220-230 pound range at Clemson…lacks the brute strength to stack, shed and rip through blocks in tight quarters and needs space to be effective…rarely moved blockers in college and needs to consistently convert speed to power…tends to get eaten up by blockers and disappear for stretches – hand use still a work-in-progress…inconsistent holding the edge with streaky vision and effort vs. the run…unproven dropping in space and more comfortable rushing than moving in reverse or laterally…will play too fast and misread angles – needs to better control his momentum on the move to square up and finish with his hands.
SUMMARY: Beasley starred as a high school running back and return man, but focused on defense once he arrived at Clemson and leaves the college ranks as the most productive pass rusher in program history. He was part of a defensive line rotation and excelled as a speed rusher in space, but became more of a well-rounded player as a senior, improving his strength vs. the run, although he’s still inconsistent holding the edge. Beasley needs to be a more consistent finisher in the backfield and better control his momentum, playing too fast at times. He has traits that remind scouts of Barkevious Mingo and Von Miller, but his effectiveness at the next level will depend on his functional power and development dropping in space if teams give him that responsibility. Beasley projects best as an outside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme and his NFL grade takes some projection, but he also has a high floor due to his pass rush ability – top-10 talent.

Pro Football Focus's take on Bears pick:
7: Chicago Bears
Kevin White, WR, West Virginia
Brandon Marshall is gone but fear not Bears fans because Kevin White is in town. A beast of a receiver, his physicality and ability to win downfield scared many a college defensive back and promise to do the same in the NFL. Only Amari Cooper forced more missed tackles, and only Devin Smith had more deep touchdowns (7) than the talented wideout. A truly explosive player, the tandem of him and Alshon Jeffery is one that rightly has the Bears fans in attendance sitting very pretty. This fit makes all kinds of sense.

5. ERECK FLOWERS | Miami (Fla.) 6062|329 lbs|3JR Miami, Fla. (Miami Norland HS) 4/25/1994 (age 21) #74
BACKGROUND: A four-star offensive tackle recruit out of high school, Flowers collected a few dozen scholarship offers, but decided to stay home and sign with Miami. He started the first four games at right tackle as a true freshman in 2012, coming off the bench in the final eight games. Flowers moved to left tackle in 2013 as a sophomore and started all 13 games. He missed one game due to injury as a junior in 2014, starting 12 games at left tackle, earning Second Team All-ACC honors. Flowers elected to skip his senior season and enter the 2015 NFL Draft.
STRENGTHS: Broad shouldered and looks the part with a naturally wide frame…good arm length and functional upper body strength, using his inline power to win the point of attack and drive his man in the run game…athletic movement skills for his size, showing the footwork and hip flexibility to operate in space…nimble feet and carries his weight well…recognizes pressures, sinking-and-shuffling to beat rushers to the point…sets up quickly with correct body and eye position…still learning how to properly use his length, but extends well to initiate contact…finishes blocks with authority, fighting through the whistle with an active mean streak – enjoys the physicality of the game…comfortable in his own skin with a self-starting, confident attitude – decided not to hire an agent, choosing to handle those responsibilities himself…alert player and won’t take snaps off…very reliable worker and pushes himself in the weight room…high pain threshold and hates to leave the field, toughing out injuries…good starting experience with 29 career starts on his résumé, including 25 at left tackle.
WEAKNESSES: Leaner than ideal lower body…lumbering lateral moves with choppy footwork and frame tightness, especially when redirecting his momentum – allows quick-footed rushers to cross his face…undisciplined technique and forgets his body fundamentals at times – needs to keep his butt low and elbows in midshuffle…needs to relax, collect himself and stay patient in space, getting excited and overextended due to anxious tendencies…wild upper body mechanics and late hands, letting defenders attack his body…numerous false start penalties on his résumé…medical records need examined after surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his knee (Oct. 2014), missing one game during his junior season.
SUMMARY: Although he could have used another year at the college level to clean up his mistakes and simmer awhile longer in the crock pot, Flowers has the size, athletic traits and competitive nature to be a long-term NFL starter – similar to La’el Collins, it doesn’t always look pretty, but he gets the job done. He needs to be more reliant on his hands and technique, not just his broad-shouldered frame and strength, but possesses the hard-working preparation habits to adapt with NFL coaching. Flowers has experience in man and zone blocking concepts and has the versatile skill-set to fit at left or right tackle, although he might not be ready to start from day one at the next level. He is admittedly unpolished in several areas, but his best football is ahead of him – late first round pick who could go higher due to his upside.

1. TODD GURLEY | Georgia 6005|222 lbs|3JR Tarboro, N.C. (Tarboro HS) 8/3/1994 (age 20) #3
BACKGROUND: A four-star running back recruit out of high school, Gurley decided to attend Georgia over offers from Clemson and NC State. With running back Isaiah Crowell dismissed from the program in July 2012, Gurley became the starter in his first season and had his most productive year in college, setting a school freshman record with 17 rushing scores. He finished with 1,385 rushing yards, becoming just the second Georgia freshman to surpass the 1,000-yard mark (Herschel Walker), earning multiple Freshman All-American honors. Despite missing three games and parts of others due to injuries, Gurley again led the Bulldogs in rushing as a sophomore in 2013 with 989 yards and finished third in receiving with a career-high 37 catches, earning Second Team All-SEC honors. As a junior in 2014, he was a Heisman Trophy favorite halfway through the season with four 100-yard rushing performances in the first five contests before he was suspended four games (Oct. 11Nov. 8) for accepting money for autographs. Gurley returned for the Auburn game and rushed for 138 yards against the Tigers, but injured his left knee late in the game, ending his season. He had successful ACL surgery on Nov. 25, but to no surprise, left school early to enter the 2015 NFL Draft.
STRENGTHS: Built like a NFL back with a muscle-bound frame to hold up at the position…excellent combination of grown-man strength and natural balance to work off contact and keep his feet, rarely conceding to the initial tackler – churns through contact with a finishing attitude…runs with natural lean and momentum, making him tough to slow down…explosive lower body with a devastating jump cut, shifting his weight extremely easily for a 225-pound body…shoots out of a cannon when the hole is there with the build-up speed to win the corner and finish downfield…dynamic in the open field, hitting different gears, making it tough for defenders to recover or regain angles…savvy runner to bait defenders and sees the field extremely well with a great sense of his surroundings…stick-and-go burst, accelerating in his cuts and stringing moves together well…decisive and won’t waste time dancing, squaring his pads to the line and always looking to run straight ahead…has the coordinated feet and redirection skills to sidestep defenders and cut back against the grain…flexible and can lower his pads at the point of attack to get lower than defenders…reliable hands in the passing game with natural body adjustments and hand-eye coordination…above average vision and determination on kickoff returns with 422 return yards on 11 career attempts (38.4), including two touchdowns…proactive in pass protection, attacking defenders with a feisty demeanor…reliable ball security with only two fumbles on his résumé (outstanding 191.7 fumble rate)…well respected among his coaches and teammates (voted team captain in 2014) with strong football character.
WEAKNESSES: Good speed for his size, but NFL defenders will be able to catch him from behind…taller than ideal for the position and is an easy target for defenders to aim for, preventing him from hiding behind blockers…room to improve his hand technique as a blocker to better sustain…eager to get north-south and has room to improve his patience at the line of scrimmage to allow blocks to develop…seeks out contact and equipped to run between the tackles, but injury history raises questions about his durability as his rush attempts declined each of the last three years (missed three games in 2013 due to a left ankle injury and his 2014 season was ended by a left ACL tear)…won’t be able to work out pre-draft or during the spring/summer due to his ACL rehab…off-field character hasn’t been a question, but did serve a four-game NCAA suspension in 2014 for accepting money for autographs (shouldn’t affect his draft grade).
SUMMARY: Gurley is the best running back talent in the 2015 draft class and has the skill-set to carry an offense and be the type of talent defensive coordinators must gameplan for. In Georgia’s pro-style offense, he achieved most of his production from I-formation, showing off his all-around skill-set rushing, receiving and blocking. Gurley has an impressive blend of power, vision and athleticism and, simply put, it’s tough to find glaring weaknesses in his game. He plays with a natural, intuitive run style, sensing daylight and reading quickly to find holes. Gurley runs with grown-man strength and hits the line of scrimmage with authority, but also displays the lateral quickness and explosive qualities to win with power or agility. He compares favorably to a blend of Marshawn Lynch and Fred Taylor and is one of the top-10 talents in the 2015 draft class, but the durability question hurts his draft value and is the only concern that could keep him from being one of the NFL’s best all-around backs.

1. TRAE WAYNES | Michigan State 6001|186 lbs|4JR Kenosha, Wis. (Bradford HS) 7/25/1992 (age 22) #15
BACKGROUND: A two-star defensive back recruit out of high school, Waynes committed to Michigan State over offers from Wisconsin and Illinois, redshirting in 2011 as he recovered from a high school injury. He played mostly special teams as a redshirt freshman in 2012 with five tackles. Waynes earned a starting job as a sophomore field cornerback in 2013, lining up opposite Darqueze Dennard and recording 50 tackles, eight passes defended and three interceptions. He replaced Dennard as the boundary cornerback and started all 13 games as a junior in 2014, recording 46 tackles, 11 passes defended and three interceptions, earning First Team All-Big Ten honors. Waynes decided to skip his senior season and enter the 2015 NFL Draft.
STRENGTHS: Tall with adequate arm length and lean muscle tone…above average speed with an easy accelerator and gliding strides…eyes are always up and aware to quickly diagnose and break on the ball, coming off his man if necessary to play the entire field…consistently gains body position and leverage in coverage, not allowing the receiver to get comfortable downfield…physical downhill mentality, throwing his body around and striking his target with pop…well-versed with press coverage, showing the athleticism to flip his hips and transition vertically…tough-minded competitor who plays with a chip…natural ballskills and turns into a playmaker when the ball is in the air…coachable and with reliable preparation habits…three-year contributor on special teams coverages…reliable and started all 27 games the past two seasons, including 2013 at field cornerback and 2014 at boundary cornerback.
WEAKNESSES: Lanky frame with skinny limbs and torso – questionable growth potential and will have a tough time bulking up…smaller hands…needs to stay low and balanced in his pedal to aid his transition…technique tends to run hot/cold due to his tendency to freelance…route anticipation and eye discipline are inconsistent, often late to plant-and-drive on throws in front of him…needs to time his jabs better in press, giving receivers an easy target to retaliate…bad habit of grabbing and holding – won’t get away with this in the NFL…ankle biter and streaky mechanics as a tackler, dropping his eye level and not wrapping…room to tighten his pursuit angles…not much of a threat after the interception…no return experience on special teams…needed surgery (Oct. 2010) to repair a broken fibula and three torn ligaments in his knee during his senior year in high school, leading to him redshirting in 2011.
SUMMARY: High school teammate and best friend of Wisconsin’s Melvin Gordon, Waynes is all “arms and legs” and has NFL speed to stay stride-for-stride with receivers up and down the field, excelling in press coverage. He takes well to coaching and became well-versed within the Spartans aggressive quarters coverage, but has a bad habit of biting the apple and freelancing – needs to improve his route anticipation to close quicker on the catch point. Although he needs to tighten his offman technique, Waynes is tough vs. the run and has the confidence and movement skills to find success on an island. He is still raw in areas and requires patience to reach his full potential, but Waynes has the skill-set and playmaking ballskills to be as good as he wants to be – day one starter in any scheme.

3. DANNY SHELTON | Washington 6021|339 lbs|4SR Auburn, Wash. (Auburn Senior HS) 8/20/1993 (age 21) #55
BACKGROUND: A four-star defensive tackle recruit out of high school, Shelton was intensely pursued by Oregon, UCLA and other west coast programs, but he decided to stay home and enroll at Washington. He played sparingly as a true freshman before earning the starting nose tackle job as a sophomore, recording 45 tackles and 4.0 tackles for loss in 2012. He started all 13 games in 2013 as a junior and finished with 59 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks, earning All-Pac 12 Honorable Mention honors. Shelton had his best season in 2014 as a senior, recording 93 tackles, 16.5 tackles for loss, 9.0 sacks and five fumble recoveries, earning First Team All-Pac 12 and All-American honors. He accepted his invitation to the 2015 Senior Bowl.
STRENGTHS: Girthy body type with meaty thighs/hips and natural thickness – built like a vending machine and plays often come to him…carries his weight well with functional range to make plays outside the hashes…balanced and plays light on his feet with coordinated body control and movement skills…active with stunts and shows smooth lateral quickness to avoid blocks and change directions well on the move…tree stump in the middle of the line of scrimmage – tough guy to move from his spot…powerful upper body with active hands and a strong punch to rip and sustain bull rush at the point of attack…heady backfield vision and ball awareness to quickly locate and recognize screens…good initial quickness to split doubles and attack gaps…highly active with a bull in a china shop mentality…terrific on-field motor for the position, moving up and down the line – played 900+ snaps in 2014…plays through pain – battled through a left shoulder injury in 2013 that required postseason surgery…above average production for the position with 208 career tackles over 40 starts – also blocked three kicks on special teams…smart on and off the field – three straight years Academic All-First Team honors…mature, but loose personality and has dealt with adversity in his past – older brother was shot and killed in front of him (May 2011).
WEAKNESSES: Has bad weight in his midsection and his conditioning needs monitored – played at 360 pounds in 2014…too upright off the snap and needs to play with more consistent knee bend and leverage – sloppy tendencies…powerful, but relies too much on his upper body strength and needs to develop his hand moves – convoluted pass rush plan…doesn’t generate consistent power from stagnant position and much better when he drops his hips and has upfield momentum…too reactionary and needs to consistently force the action, lacking twitch off the snap…needs to be a consistent finisher once he makes contact…too many frustration penalties on his résumé and needs to improve his discipline…wears himself out with his intensity and ends up taking plays off…
SUMMARY: A prospect of Samoan heritage, Shelton has a rare mix of quickness and power for the position, showing the range to make plays on the perimeter and the unyielding hustle to continue pursuit through the whistle. He requires double-teams due to his nimble feet and upper body strength to shock blockers, using his natural gifts well, although his arm/hand techniques are still in development. Shelton started every game at nose tackle the last three seasons, playing a large percentage of the Huskies’ defensive snaps, but is better suited for a timeshare role to sustain his intensity. He lined up everywhere on the line in college from the zero- to five-technique positions, but is ideally suited as a two-gapping nose tackle, who can fit a 3-4 or 4-3 scheme – not on the same level as Haloti Ngata as a prospect, but deserving of top-15 consideration in this draft class.

2. MELVIN GORDON | Wisconsin 6005|215 lbs|4JR Kenosha, Wis. (Bradford HS) 4/13/1993 (age 22) #25
BACKGROUND: A four-star running back recruit out of high school, Gordon fielded offers from Wisconsin, Michigan and Louisville and originally committed to Iowa prior to his senior year, but changed his mind a few months later and decided to join the in-state Badgers. As a true freshman, he competed for carries behind Montee Ball and James White, but a groin injury ended his season, using a medical redshirt. Sharing the backfield duties with Ball and White again in 2012, Gordon finished third on the team in rushing as a redshirt freshman with 621 yards and three rushing scores. He was White’s back-up in 2013, but led the Badgers in rushing with 1,609 yards on 206 carries, adding 12 touchdowns over four starts as a sophomore. Gordon was Wisconsin’s feature runner in 2014 and responded with the second-most single season rush yards in FBS history (2,587), falling just 41 yards shy of Barry Sanders’ record. He scored 32 total touchdowns (29 rushing, 3 receiving) and for one week held the record for most rushing yards in a single game (408 vs. Nebraska). The Heisman Trophy runner-up, Gordon earned First Team All-Big Ten and All-American honors and was the Doak Walker Award winner. He decided to skip his senior season and enter the 2015 NFL Draft.
STRENGTHS: Strong ankles with galloping strides and easy acceleration to go 0-to-60 in a flash…could be a world-class dancer with his quick, coordinated feet and explosive movements – smooth lateral jump cuts to sidestep defenders without losing momentum, bouncing runs outside…above average balance to bounce off tackle attempts with a physical nature – if not wrapped up, he won’t go down…tougher than his frame suggests with deceiving strength and stiff-arm, lowering his pads and keeping his legs pumping…quick-thinker with the run instincts and eyes to scan and make decisive moves to scamper out of trouble – reads blocks/defenders and reacts instantly…excellent feel in the open field, leveraging defenders and showing patience to follow blocks…lower body explosion to hurdle defenders without slowing down…has focused on getting yoked up, dedicating himself in the weight room…team-first type with an engaging, positive personality and genuine mind-set…elite production with a career 7.8 yards per carry average, setting a FBS record in 2014 as the fastest ever to reach 2,000 rushing yards in a season (241 carries) – holds the Big Ten record for rushing yards in a season (2,587) and ranks sixth in the conference (third in school history) in career rushing yards (4,915).
WEAKNESSES: Does most of his damage on the edges and prefers to bounce runs outside the tackles – inside vision and power aren’t as consistent…high cut with long legs and doesn’t have an ideal body type for the position – appears maxed out and has minor durability concerns…lean-muscled and not overly physical at the line of scrimmage, doesn’t have much lead in his shoulders to push the pile or consistently break tackles…accelerates well downfield, but lacks a second gear and can be caught from behind…ball security concerns, especially between the tackles, exposing and not protecting his carriage (12 career fumbles, including seven in 2014) – 54.4 fumble rate…benefited from wide run lanes in Wisconsin’s run-first offense…unproven as a receiver and route runner with only 22 career catches and several drops on this film…work-in-progress as a pass protector with unreliable base strength and technique.
SUMMARY: After three seasons as a bridesmaid in Wisconsin’s offense, Gordon had his chance to wear the white dress in 2014 and didn’t disappoint with one of the single-best rushing seasons in NCAA history. He is at his best attacking the line of scrimmage, only to jump cut and bounce outside where he can turn on the jets and race downfield – most of his damage in college came outside the tackles. Gordon has above average field speed with electric feet to make defender miss and play with instant reactions, weaving through defenders with beautiful patience and gliding strides. His game is built more on quickness and vision rather than power, but he’s tough and looks to lower his pads on contact, working hard to max out his strength potential. Gordon’s lack of reliability as a pass catcher and blocker are two glaring concerns, but he has the ingredients to be a Jamaal Charles type of weapon in the NFL.

1. ANDRUS PEAT | Stanford 6067|313 lbs|3JR Chandler, Ariz. (Corona del Sol HS) 11/4/1993 (age 21 #70
BACKGROUND: A five-star offensive tackle recruit out of high school, Peat was compared to some of the all-time greats as a prep player and he narrowed his college choice to Nebraska and Stanford, choosing the Cardinal because of the coaching staff. He saw limited playing time as a true freshman back-up at left tackle, playing behind David Yankey. With Yankey moving inside to guard in 2013, Peat took over the left tackle duties as a sophomore, starting all 14 games and earning Second Team All-Pac 12 honors. He started all 13 games in 2014 as a junior and won the Pac-12 Morris Award as the top offensive lineman in the conference (voted by the players), also earning First Team All-Pac 12 and All-American honors. Peat elected to bypass his senior season and enter the 2015 NFL Draft.
STRENGTHS: Massive frame with thick legs and trunk…wide base and uses angles well…excellent set-up quickness and gets into position ahead of rushers…springs out of his stance with coordinated feet in his kickslide and shuffle…controls his momentum with natural body control and flexibility to mirror in space – pulls and moves like he’s 100 pounds lighter…extends well at the point of attack with aggressive hands/reach and a strong punch to stone and control defenders, keeping his feet shuffling while engaged…comfortable at the second level with the range to eliminate defenders on the perimeter, covering a lot of ground for the position…understands body position and processes rusher movements quickly to break down in a flash…smart player with a terrific sense of his surroundings to recognize and anticipate pressures, resetting and rolling his hips…physical mauler and brings it every snap with a mean-spirited temperament – looks to bury his man in the run game with consistent finishing toughness…durable and toughs out injuries, starting every game the past two seasons at left tackle (27 career starts)…NFL bloodlines – father (Todd) played six seasons in the league on the offensive line and his older brother (Todd) is a rising senior defensive tackle at Texas A&MCommerce.
WEAKNESSES: Sets up quickly off the snap, but needs to improve his patience and discipline…bad habit of lunging and overextending himself with inconsistent balance – finds himself bent at the waist too often, ending up on the ground due to his overeager nature…gets in trouble stopping his feet and falling off blocks, not consistently bringing his feet with him vs. speed rushers…mechanics tend to come and go…aggressive jabs, but not overpowering and his hand placements needs refined, landing outside too often…inconsistent anchor and base strength, struggling with leverage…needs to turn up the focus dial and eliminate the undisciplined penalties – too many false start flags on his game tapes…some bad weight in his midsection and conditioning needs monitored.
SUMMARY: Stanford has produced four offensive line draft picks the last three years, but Peat has the skill-set to be the highest drafted Cardinal lineman since Bob Whitfield in 1992 (eighth overall pick). He has some mechanical flaws with too many unfocused mental mistakes, but he’s the real deal athletically with the body control and intensity ideal for the next level – dancing bear with little restraint to his movements. Peat can be as good as he wants if he can improve his patience and discipline to stay balanced and not overextend once engaged. While the inconsistencies, mostly with his balance, can be maddening, his issues are coachable and he has the natural traits worth molding – projects as a NFL starting left or right tackle who will probably take his lumps as a rookie before nailing down a starting job in year two.

3. DeVANTE PARKER | Louisville 6025|209 lbs|4SR Louisville, Ky. (Ballard HS) 1/20/1993 (age 22) #9
BACKGROUND: A three-star wide receiver recruit, Parker was a Louisville fan growing up and committed to his hometown team as a junior in high school. He started six games as a true freshman in 2011 and led the team in receiving scores (six) and yards per catch average (16.2). Parker was again a part-time wideout as a sophomore (three starts), but led the Cardinals with 744 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. He set career-highs as a junior in 2013 with a team-best 55 catches for 885 yards and tied a school-record with 12 touchdown grabs, earning First Team All-AAC honors. Parker missed the first seven games of his senior season due to a foot injury, but still managed 43 catches for 855 yards and five scores in just four starts, earning Second Team All-ACC honors. He received an invitation to the 2015 Senior Bowl, but declined.
STRENGTHS: Excellent height/length body type with the frame to get stronger…long-striding speed with natural lower body explosion to get vertical in a hurry…shows multiple gears in his routes to set up defenders…quick-starter with the initial movements off the line of scrimmage to gain free release and stack corners, using field leverage to give him room to work down the sideline…disguises routes well with a strong plant foot, selling his patterns with crisp footwork…shows some shake in the open field with quick cuts to deceive after the catch and the vision to collect YAC…tracks the football and extends well to attack with a large wingspan and natural body control – usually reliable ballskills…above average vertical with the leaping ability to hang in the air…deceiving body strength and not a push-over, running tough and not allowing coverage defenders to slow him in his routes…tougher than he looks and not an easy ballcarrier to finish off…confident competitor and won’t shrink in crunch time…frequent visitor to the end zone with a touchdown every 4.7 catches for the Cardinals…consistently productive in college and leaves Louisville ranked top-five in several categories, including career receiving yards (2,775) and career receiving touchdowns (33).
WEAKNESSES: Leaner-than-ideal frame and needs to add muscle and bulk…good speed for the position, but can be caught from behind…usually reliable hands and focus, but will allow the ball into his body at times and tends to have concentration lapses – better with the ball away from his body where he can extend and attack…room to improve his footwork off the line to beat press and get into his routes…needs to improve his coverage reads to better manipulate defenders instead of using the same moves each play…will get himself in trouble extending his arms away from his body to push off – won’t get away with that in the NFL…willing blocker, but has room to improve in this area…durability concerns due to his lean frame and college injuries, including a left foot injury (Aug. 2014) that required surgery and sidelined him for the first seven games of his senior season – missed one game as a junior due to a right shoulder injury (Oct. 2013).
SUMMARY: Despite losing his quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, Parker passed on the NFL after the 2013 season and returned to Louisville for his senior year – it didn’t go quite as expected, missing the first seven games of 2014 after foot surgery. However when he did return, he was dominant in the final six games, averaging seven catches and almost 150 receiving yards per game. Parker will have some easy drops and needs to patch a few holes in his game, but he is long-striding athlete with better catch-and-go creativity and toughness than expected, using his wingspan and natural length to play above the rim. His size/athletic dimensions are first round quality with a large catching radius to be a playmaker at every level of the field – not quite on the same level as A.J. Green as a NFL prospect, but a notch below and belongs in the top-15 picks.

2. KEVIN JOHNSON | Wake Forest 6002|188 lbs|5SR Clarksville, Md. (River Hill HS) 8/5/1992 (age 22) #9
BACKGROUND: A two-star cornerback recruit out of high school, Johnson received scholarship offers from Syracuse, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Wake Forest, choosing Wake Forest. He saw immediate action as a true freshman with five starts, but was redshirted in 2011 after he was declared academically ineligible for the season. Johnson returned in 2012 and started all 12 games as a sophomore with three interceptions, recording a career-high 18 passes defended and earning All-ACC Honorable Mention honors. He started 12 games in 2013 as a junior and again led the team with 15 passes defended and three interceptions, earning All-ACC Honorable Mention honors. Johnson again started every game as a senior in 2014 and led Wake Forest in passes defended (7) for the third straight season, finishing with 44 tackles and one interception, earning Second Team All-ACC honors. He earned an invitation to the 2015 Senior Bowl, but decided to pull out last minute.
STRENGTHS: Above average height for the position with adequate body length…balanced athleticism with coordinated lower body quickness…excellent plant-anddrive burst to close on plays in front of him, displaying sharp footwork in his cuts…smooth pedal and transition with terrific reaction time to click-and-close in a flash…fantastic route anticipation with the reflexes to quickly read and attack – follows the eyes of the QB with the ballskills to make plays…diagnoses the run well with the vision to maneuver through the trash…well-developed spatial awareness with cover sense and understanding of field leverage, using the sideline well vs. the pass and the run…physical and throws his shoulder as a tackler, controlling his momentum well in space…plays with supreme confidence…made an impact on special teams and was often the first man down the field on punt coverage…four-year starter (41 career starts) with 42 career passes defended.
WEAKNESSES: Pipe cleaner frame with skinny limbs, minimal bulk and questionable growth potential – chose not to lift on the bench press during the pre-draft process…lacks ideal upper body strength and often needs help to secure stops, struggling to consistently finish tackles if not squared to his target – leaves production on the field vs. the run…too easily hung up on perimeter blocks, which leads to poor angles…doesn’t show multiple gears vertically, lacking ideal chase or make-up speed after a false step...will bite on double-moves with his overaggressive mentality, often grabbing and attracting penalties as he tries to recover…bad habit of opening his hips too early, leaving him susceptible to back shoulder throws…missed all of the 2011 season due to academics…pulled out of the 2015 Senior Bowl for non-health reasons after initially committing.
SUMMARY: Although Wake Forest never finished above .500 during his five-year collegiate career, Johnson has been a bright spot on the Demon Deacons’ defense and one of the best defensive backs in the ACC with his natural cover skills. He doesn’t back down in run support with above average height for the position, but his lack of bulk and strength to be a reliable finisher are concerns for the next level. Johnson has experience in press and off-man, also playing zone coverages with the athleticism, recognition skills and self-confidence to make plays at every level of the field. He is a highly skilled cover man (athletically, mentally and fundamentally) and projects as a rookie starter in the NFL – top-20 prospect, who might never be an All-Pro, but should be a reliable starter.

3. ARIK ARMSTEAD | Oregon 6071|292 lbs|3JR Sacramento, Calif. (Pleasant Grove HS) 11/15/1993 (age 21) #9
BACKGROUND: A four-star defensive end recruit out of high school, Armstead originally verballed to USC, but de-committed a few months before signing day and reopened his recruitment, eventually settling on Oregon to play both football and basketball. He saw playing time as a true freshman as one of Oregon’s top reserves off the bench, finishing with 26 tackles and 2.0 tackles for loss. Armstead started his sophomore season as a starter over the first five games before coming off the bench the rest of 2013, recording 15 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss. He had his most productive season in 2014 as a junior over 13 starts, finishing with 46 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks, earning All-Pac 12 Honorable Mention honors. Armstead decided early in his career that he would only be in Eugene for three seasons and stuck to that plan, leaving Oregon early for the 2015 NFL Draft.
STRENGTHS: Tall and long with broad shoulders and a rocked up physique…well-proportioned mass with room to add more bulk…phenomenal athlete for his size, moving with balance and excellent initial quickness, giving blockers trouble…flexible with greased up joints (basketball background)…large, active hands to jolt and bully at the point of attack, converting speed to power and rocking blockers on their heels…fluid lower body to move quickly in reverse and change directions, which helps his range…adequate length to corral ballcarriers and finish tackles…natural bend and keeps his eyes elevated to locate and track in the run game…stays off the ground with outstanding body control, setting the edge…showed improvements each season, setting career-highs in 2014…football bloodlines – older brother (Armond) played defensive line at USC, but an injury caused him to go undrafted in the 2012 NFL Draft and eventually retire after one season with the New England Patriots; father (Guss) has trained and consulted with over 200 NBA players…motivated on and off the field, working hard in the weight room.
WEAKNESSES: Stands up and can be out-leveraged in the run game due to his height…questionable functional strength to swim-and-rip, lacking the limb power to swat blockers from his path…undeveloped pass rush stash and doesn’t show effective secondary moves after his initial bull rush is stopped…needs to learn to better use his length in all facets of the game, including obstructing passing lanes (only two career pass break-ups at the line of scrimmage)…hand placement tends to get wild and needs to play more functionally-sound…not explosive from a standing position and needs a moment to unwind his long legs…inconsistent snap anticipation and is often the last to move off the ball…too easily allows blockers to gain angles on him…doesn’t make as many plays away from the line of scrimmage as his athleticism would suggest…intensity level wavers and the tank nears empty before the end of the game, wearing down…unimpressive production with only 4.0 career sacks and didn’t make the impact his size suggests…minor durability concerns, missing two games as a junior due to a nagging ankle injury (Oct. 2014).
SUMMARY: A rare two-sport collegiate athlete, Armstead scored two points in his basketball career at Oregon, leaving the team after two years to focus on football. He passes the eye test with impressive size and athletic dimensions, using his natural gifts to be a terror against single blockers and push the pocket, although Armstead needs to continue and improve his functional strength and undeveloped technique vs. both the run and pass. He is still very raw and could have used another season of polish at the college level, but considering his older brother’s career-ending injury, Armstead is making the move now to avoid a repeat situation. Although he likely needs a redshirt year in the NFL as he adjusts to the physicality of the next level, Armstead has the athletic upside to develop into a Calais Campbell type of player in the NFL. He warrants top-40 consideration, although he will certainly be drafted higher – projects best as a five-technique in a 3-4 scheme or left defensive end in a four-man front.

Dupree from Scout.com
EVALUATION
Dupree has the ability to change direction immediately closing on the quarterback. He demonstrates good knee bend and stays low in his pads to work down the line fluidly. He has the lower body strength to gain leverage and the loose hips to stay tight on the receiver when working the short area passing game, making him a nice fit for the “Sam” spot in a 3-4 base defense. He also takes good angles to the ball and has excellent acceleration turning the corner.
EDIT: I think that should be 4-3 SAM
Also...
Dupree has good quickness, enough to possibly play outside linebacker in a 3-4 base defense. It is his all-out hustle that makes him look mush faster in his backside pursuit. He has good agility and balance on the move and adequate change of direction agility, but shows some hip stiffness when having to move suddenly. He accelerates into the back-field with good urgency and has the strength to jolt a blocker much bigger than him.

3. MARCUS PETERS | Washington 5115|197 lbs|4JR Oakland, Calif. (McClymonds HS) 1/9/1993 (age 22) #21
BACKGROUND: A three-star cornerback recruit out of high school, Peters narrowed his college choice to Arizona State, Oregon State and Washington, committing to the Huskies and redshirting in 2011. He worked himself into the starting line-up as a redshirt freshman in 2012 (eight starts) and led the team in passes defended (11) and interceptions (three), adding 44 tackles and 2.0 tackles for loss. Peters started all but one game in 2013 as a junior, leading the team with 14 passes defended and five interceptions, earning Second Team All-Pac 12 honors. He started seven games as a junior before his dismissal from the program, finishing with 30 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss, 10 passes defended and three interceptions in 2014. Peters elected to give up his remaining eligibility to enter the 2015 NFL Draft.
STRENGTHS: Desired height and frame for the position with above average arm length…flexible hips and coordinated footwork to transition out of his pedal and collect himself on the move…excellent spatial awareness and feel for coverage to float, read and react, using the sideline to his advantage…tracks the ball well with above average ballskills – routinely gets his head turned, gains body position and uses his hands to make plays…presses at the line with the feet and speed to play tight, using his functional length to stay in phase with receivers…always peeking in the backfield with natural anticipation and recognition skills at the position…highly confident and talkative with short memory – looks to bait and get into the head of receivers…physical in run support and aggressive as a blitzer, closing well in pursuit…tone-setting competitiveness with a great relationship with his teammates…above average production with 35 passes defended and 11 interceptions over 27 starts, including two defensive touchdowns…versatile experience and was effective in press-man, off-man and zone coverages…patched his relationship with the Washington coaching staff after his dismissal and was invited to participate at the school’s pro day.
WEAKNESSES: Lanky frame with room to add bulk and get stronger…lacks ideal recovery speed for the outside and will struggle to catch up if the receiver gains a step vertically…highly aggressive and will get called for too much downfield contact…bad habit of getting sloppy with his footwork in his pedal, struggling to create a base and hindering his ability to mirror movements – will find himself off-balanced and undisciplined in coverage…allows his eyes to be stuck in the backfield, late reacting when in off coverage…will over run his target in run support and needs to harness his aggressiveness to break down in space…alarming character and immaturity concerns after he was kicked off the team for repeated run-ins with the coaching staff – suspended vs. Illinois (Sept. 2014) after head-butting an opposing wide receiver and throwing a tantrum on the sideline the week prior; late to several team meetings and missed practice, leading to his dismissal from the program (Nov. 2014)…history of poor decisions, including a failed drug test in 2011 and academic issues (suspended for the first quarter of 2013 bowl game).
SUMMARY: The son of a coach, Peters is extremely talented with first round traits, but his history of selfish immaturity and insubordination has NFL teams working overtime investigating his character. He has since apologized to the Washington coaches and mended the relationship, taking accountability and calling the incident a “miscommunication” – pointed to family-friend Marshawn Lynch as someone who mentored him throughout the process. Peters, who has a newborn son (Carson), is hard-headed and a brash spark plug, but those aren’t the worst qualities for the position as long as he matures and figures out how to turn down his emotions off the field. He is passionate about football and his tough-minded approach serves him well on the field, showing confidence to be an instigator and shut down talented pass-catchers. Peters allows his mechanics to break down and get sloppy, but he has the size, athleticism and cover skills to be a No. 1 corner at the next level who does his best work in press – top-15 overall talent with a high NFL ceiling, but the reward won’t be worth the risk for several evaluators who will remove him from their draft board.
Bummed about Peters. Thought he would make a good Packer.

1. CAMERON ERVING | Florida State 6054|313 lbs|5SR Moultrie, Ga. (Colquitt County HS) 8/23/1992 (age 22) #75
BACKGROUND: A three-star defensive tackle recruit out of high school, Cameron “Cam” Erving was unheralded as a recruit receiving only three offers: Florida State, Clemson and Georgia Southern, committing to the Seminoles shortly after they offered. After redshirting in 2010 because of a back injury, he served as a back-up defensive tackle in 2011 as a redshirt freshman, recording 20 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and 1.0 sack. Erving made the transition to the offensive line prior to his sophomore season and won the left tackle job, starting all 14 games in 2012 (switched from #98 to #75). He again started all 14 games at left tackle in 2013 as a junior and was awarded the Jacobs Blocking Trophy, which is given to the ACC’s top offensive lineman (voted by the coaches), also earning All-American and First Team AllACC honors. Erving started the first nine games at left tackle in 2014 as a senior before kicking inside to center where he started the final five games, earning First Team All-ACC honors and the Jacobs Blocking Trophy for the second straight year. He was invited to the 2015 Senior Bowl, but chose not to participate.
STRENGTHS: Wide, flexible base with long arms and heavy hands…sets up well off the snap with low pad level and natural knee bend…flexible coil to attack bodies, lock out and drive rushers away from run lanes – takes full advantage of his limb extension…good-enough base strength to hold his ground vs. bull rushers, digging his cleats to anchor…good vision and awareness to sink-and-recover…loose hips and joints with the lower body athleticism to operate in space…clear understanding of body positioning and angles, pulling well to get into space…looks to bury his man with good fight through the whistle – shows consistent competitiveness on each snap…versatile experience at defensive tackle, left tackle and center…quick-learner and smart as he was responsible for all the line calls at Florida State…durable and reliable with 42 consecutive starts the last three seasons…mature, team-first attitude and considered a hard-working self-starter by his coaches.
WEAKNESSES: Will overset off the snap and needs to stay patient, laboring in his kickslide and leaving his body open for rushers in pass pro…choppy footwork with below average body control, struggling to recover when beat in space, spending too much time on the ground…overextends and needs to be more patient with his punches…bad habit of stopping his feet at contact and lowering his eyes at the point of attack, allowing rushers to re-gather and beat him with secondary moves…inconsistent hand use and will get grabby…lacks the functional strength to consistently halt rushers when off-balance…needs to keep his emotions in check, getting caught for after-whistle actions…medicals need checked out after missing the 2010 season due to a back injury.
SUMMARY: An All-American left tackle, Erving was the back-up center during FSU practices and moved inside full-time for the final five games of the 2014 season, solidifying the Seminoles offensive line and reinventing himself as a NFL prospect – appeared much more comfortable on tape at center. Although he started the last 42 games on the offensive line since moving over from defense, he is still raw in a lot of areas and not yet the sum of his parts, but the tools, intangibles and versatility are there for him to be a long-time NFL starter. Erving doesn’t have a preference at left tackle or center, but was a much better prospect inside, showing improved confidence and effectiveness in small quarters – top-40 prospect and the draft’s top center prospect.
