What a great day to watch a Packer practice. My first day watching the HAWK soar in GB!!!! Loved it! Here is my report.
STUDS AND DUDS
STUDS:
1. ZAC ALCORN - Alcorn really had a special day. He was given a lot of opportunities to make catches and he made them. He did have one drop, a pass off his finger tips, but other then that he was money. Made a real nice sliding catch in the endzone and routinely came back for the ball when the QB was forced to scramble. I'm not sure that he has NFL size, but he certainly has NFL heart.
2. DONALD LEE - Ted Thompson deserves a lot of credit for signing Lee last year. Lee is fast, strong and has hands like a WR. He made catch, after catch, after catch today. He broke wide open twice today and made the D pay. Lee did have two 5 yard bullets clank of his hands but he also made several very nice catches in traffic. Don't be surprised if Lee is your #2 TE this season.
3. AJ HAWK - Yeah, I'm a homer, I KNOW IT! But before you rip on me, just go watch him play. He is faster then I thought and is ALWAYS around the ball. They already have him blitzing and he gets to the QB, FAST! Hawk hustles from station to station and is all football. His legs look very powerful and he has the thickest ankles I have every seen (on a non-fat person). Hawk was all football, no trash talking or goofing around. He is a Packer all the way!
DUDS:
1. AHMAD CARROLL - Carroll was the Anti-Hawk out there today. He talked so much shit and only backed it up half the time. He did have one pick and two passes defended, which were all nice plays, but he couldn't let his play talk for him. It was pathetic! After breaking up a pass intened for C. Rodgers, Carroll stood over Rodgers talking trash. Then, as Rodgers was trying to pick himself up off the ground, Carroll pushed him back to the ground. Carroll then talked more trash! This fiasco occured right after Boe burned Carroll for a 30 yard TD pass. Since the coaching staff wasn't checking Carroll, some fan had to. Right after Carroll pushed Rodgers down, he yelled "Carroll you just got burned!" Carroll was a straight up thug today.
2. COACHING STAFF - Carroll acted like a 2 year old all practice long and NOT ONE COACH SAID ANYTHING TO HIM. MM was working with the O and may not have noticed all of his antics. However, Bob Sanders and Kurt Schottenheimer had front row seats and never, NOT ONCE, lit into Carroll. Carroll was acting like a spoiled brat and his daddies (coaches) never did anything to improve his behavior. Maybe he was spoken to after practice, but I doubt it. I hate it that MM let Carroll disgrace the Packers like that.
3. MIKE HAWKINS - Hawkins got beaten like a tied up goat all day long. He was pathetic. He got burned for TD's on back to back plays. The worst part? They were the same play. He didn't have an INT or a pass defended all day long. Then, he got a little cut on his knee so he stopped practicing. Come on! Hawkins better pick it up!
ONE LINERS (OR MORE)
Donald Driver was MIA
David Martin was MIA
Rod Gardner was MIA
Cory Rodgers dropped passes and kick offs.
Greg Jennings doesn't show the burst I would expect him to when returning kicks in practice.
Gado was a first team kick returner, paired with Jennings.
Davenport looked better then I have seen him. No more limping.
The O and D line did sprints during practice.
Troy Humpfrey made some nice catches today, including a TD.
Fergie made an unbelievable catch at the back of the endzone.
Roman was working with the 1's today.
Roman was coaching up the young guys.
Starting LB's were: Taylor, Barnett, Hawk.
Jason Horton is hurt, again!
Ruvell Martin is getting more and more reps with Brett. He looked very good again today. Dangerous weapon in the red zone (fade route).
Greg Jennings caught the bell well again.
Leach bumbled another pass from Brett. He just can't catch.
As always, Henderson caught the ball very nicely out of the back field.
A-Rod was picked off by Jason Hunter on a screen play. A SCREEN!
Herron was the No. 1 back again today.
Jennings started with Fergie today.
Different day, same long sleeve shirts on the coaches.
Bubba Franks lined up real wide, like a WR, on several plays.
Hawk is working on the No. 1 special teams unit.
Cundiff looked solid kicking FG before practice.
Hawk and some rooks stayed after practice to work on LB drills.
When Horton got hurt, he layed down right in front of me a said "Shit, fuck, shit, oh fuck, oh shit, god damn it!" A short time later, he walked away.
Tom Arth looked like crap today.
FAVORITE MOMENT:
You know what, I don't think I had a favorite moment. I was just so sickened by the behavior of Carroll that I walked away mad. Mad that we drafted such a punk. Mad that he refuses to grow up. Mad that he is still on MY team. Mad that MM and Co. did nothing to check him. And most of all, mad that Cory Rodgers didn't stand up and beat the PISS OUT OF HIM! AHHHHHHH! What a punk!
I TOOK A TON OF PICS TODAY.
