Per the Milwaukee Journal:

The requirements for McCaskill to have earned the $7.278 million incentive were tied to special-teams exploits such as blocking six punts. He never got into a game..

The article goes on to state that the Packers have $105.157 million committed against the 2009 salary-cap. The cap is expected to be about $123 million. With the roll-over, the Packers should have about $25 million in cap space to work with in the off-season.

A guy like Nevin McCaskill must be a little burned that the Pack moved all this money into next years cap, while he get the pittance that is his salary.

It's the business, but you know it has to fire some guys up.

I'll trade salaries with him and they can filter all the money they want onto next years cap and I won't whine about it a bit.

I think my life would be complete if some guy like Nevill Caskill somehow by some fluke (a million injuries, maybe) made the game day active roster, got in, and blocked a punt. Then, next game, again. Then the dude becomes a force, gets five, and the last game of the season is for the division title against a team with a notoriously weak special teams offensive line. So the coach has to put ol' Neville in, he blocks a punt, gets seven million, and promptly retires.

I was a bit shocked that they wasted $116,284 of their cap space.

Then I calculated that it was less than one 1000th of one percent of the cap and I didn't feel so bad.

They've been using NLTBE bonuses for years now to move cap money.

I know that Nevill McCaskill and his agent knew what was up with this NLTBE bonus. I was just thinking in the mode of Fritz's post. A bubble guy like McCaskill has to be thinking, "Damn 7 million, what could I do, get in a few games and go crazy, I could make all that bread!" Regardless of how impossible, it's human nature to dream the impossible dream.

Yeah, I'd love to see a lunch pail guy like that hit the lottery instead of seeing 5-10 "Corey Williams" guys get paid every year.

A lot of teams have a bunch of NLTBE bonuses used to push forward cap money. I remember a couple of years ago the Vikings gave Pat Williams a NLTBE bonus for 4 or more punt return touchdowns. I was hoping they'd put him back there, that'd be fun to watch.

I have been saying 43M, but I completely went through my list and checked all my work again, and got a new #. 36.5M. In the general forum a # of 36M was given. The JS has calculated it to be roughly 25M.

Personally I feel my number is the strongest, Clayton and Packerchatters tend to put out #'s that crosscheck with mine well. The JS just gives a rollup.

This is how much money the Packers contractually must pay in 2009 currently. Much of the money owed to the cap has already been paid. A sign the team has an enormous amount of available cash to spend on new contracts. (Cap + operating profit is roughly 140M (the amount of money the team can spend on contracts in real money before using reserve funds)). My guess, 65M more dollars can be given to players ("Guaranteed money") in the 2009 season.

So we have 36.5M of cap space and 65M of real money to go shopping with.

Players marked with (x) are assumed tenders. RFA ERFA, minimum possible assumed for all but Bigby (Tramon is an ERFA and cannot be stolen).

The roster consists of 53. Scrubs making minimum wage were added to fill the holes.

Those holes come from Tausher, Montgomery, Cole, Bush, Pettway none of whom have contracts. Bush and Pettway are RFA eligible.....but I doubt we offer them.
