Does any team give the green dot to anybody but a LB? I'm not sure there is. And if the Packers had Wilson, it wouldn't be him. He hasn't been close to being an every down LB.

Some safeties have worn it but usually linebackers. Quentin Lake for the Rams from the list I am looking at.

They were AND could have chosen to stay tight. But instead they either cut or let walk a long list of former starters. That's why Mike Tanier and all of CheeseheadTV are having an argument over whether this is a rebuilding year for the Packers. (Tanier is a yes, CheeseheadTV is a no and they have a season long bet on it).

Its not a rebuild because the contracts they shed were guys not living up to it and we are likely to have players just as good at the positions. Its a calculated gamble that the conglomerate replacing Gary will be just as effective. Rhyan with some games under his belt will be as effective as an aging Jenkins (or monk or Burton). The CB room will overall be better without Hobbs contract since he lost the slot job to Bullard on a rookie deal. That the Franklin for Walker swap is a push. That Morgan can slide in for Walker without paying Walker (which we wouldn't have had to do). We made some changes but I wouldn't call it a rebuild, I'd call it natural evolution.

I'm a little concerned they gave Franklin the green dot, which would suggest he'll be out there more than I'd like.
He was miscast in Indy's D last year and good before that. As an early downs guy who can play the run etc. I'm fine with him. He's not a coverage LB. Quay had the physical gifts but not the instincts. Gannon is going to have to use Franklin better than Amaruno did last year, but I'm not sure you want him in coverage all the time. I'd have given the green dot to McKinney.

Payton Wilson has managed to stay healthy, which is saying something for an overaged player with surgeries on both shoulders and a knee. In hindsight he sure looks a lot better than Hopper, who everyone thought was a reach. I'd have been ok with Hopper in R5, R3 is too rich.

Yeah, I think you're right. GB obviously has access to the medicals and info we don't, but if I HAD to take a LB in R3 I'd have taken either Cedric Grey or Wilson over Hopper. Actually, I wouldn't have thought about Hopper until R5-6. That being said, I've heard he's gotten better each year so maybe he'll turn into something, and I'm rooting for the kid. As of right now I chalk it up to another one of those weird R3 picks they seem to make every year. (Amari, Sternberger, Deguara, etc.)

I didn't like either the Hopper or Savion Williams picks in the 3rd round. Thought both were too early. We'll see if either guy can prove me wrong.

IMO Hopper was a reach and Williams a gadget guy, which you should wait until Day 3 or UDFA.

If the new WR coach can turn Williams into a WR they could have something though. I'm rooting for the kid - seems like a good dude. One thing I'd actually like to see them do is use him on slants and short throws (especially on hot reads to counter blitzes) where he can use his size/speed/YAC ability. I realize defenses want you to throw short and then gang tackle, but I think he's at his best in open space with the ball so that would play to his strength. I don't think MLF calls a lot of stuff like this anymore. Even running mesh routes with him could be kind of fun.

What I don't want are the obvious end around/jet sweeps and bubble screens. If they are going to call them they have to be sneakier about it. Defenses seem to know they are coming (MLF also calls them a lot so they are likely a film room focus)

The 2027 WR class is supposed to be a good one. Personally I wouldn't mind them grabbing another WR. Without Watson or Williams, they have a bunch of sub 6' WRs now.
