Jaylin Simpson played both corner and then safety in college. He's skinny for a safety so they moved him back to corner. From what some of what I've read he's a better fit for Gannon's D than Hafley's, but if he's a turnip under the bright lights then IDK what you do with him. There's not a lot of upside left after 3 years in the league.

I'm also worried about the OL. Everything I've read says the D keeps "winning" vs. the O in camp, which tells me either the D is going to be very good or (more likely) the O is stinky. They still have time to get it together, but I swear every year the OL starts out bad and gets better. I'm glad Morgan is looking good and and ZBB is on the mend, but the interior OL gives me worries. Belton effectively losing the RG job to become a swing tackle seems sketchy, but Kinnard is hurt and frankly I don't want him playing a lot of snaps in real games. I feel like they are a little too cute with trying to play their "best 5" by playing good players out of position -- where they may not actually play like a "best 5".

Re: Nixon. He sounded a little defiant and a little worried, which is probably good motivation for him. He needs to play better if he expects some other team to give him a fat contract next season. His contract is a bargain for a starting CB, so he isn't going anywhere until then. I don't think he's CB1, but I think he's serviceable as a CB2. If BSJ and Cisse push him, all the better.

Last practice report said Burton was getting beaten in pass reps and had some adventures versus the Steelers. Packers need a Guard solution soon. I have not heard much about how Monk pass blocks.

There was an article somewhere that made the case to keep Sturdivant and Neilor for the size and ST and insurance for Reed and Golden holding up. Does anyone remember where it was? Thought it was either CheeseheadTV or Acme Packing but I can't find it.

From the cornerback room to the D line to the WR beach party and maybe EDGE(?), Gute seems to have found some team depth. If he can find some guards I might have to amend my predicted record. Its just practice but this is how Ted keep the team in the pink for a long time.

Impressive first-year player Anthony Campbell dropped out of the Pittsburgh game with a knee injury. He didn’t miss any practices, though, and was back to causing havoc with a tackle for loss and a sack.

“You’re talking about a guy, came to us Week 17, 18 last year and to a guy who’s showing up every single day in practice with some type of ball production, whether in the run game, pass game and level of consistency,” position coach Vince Oghobaase said on Friday.

Camp Injury Update:

The Green Bay Packers welcomed back running back Josh Jacobs and edge rusher Lukas Van Ness to practice on Tuesday, and several other players returned to 11-on-11 work during Tuesday's practice.

Jacobs returned to practice after missing over a week with a groin injury, while Van Ness is back after not practicing on Sunday due to a minor shoulder injury.

The Packers also got long-awaited returns to 11-on-11 work from cornerback Carrington Valentine, guard Aaron Banks, defensive lineman Javon Hargrave and rookie cornerback Domani Jackson on Tuesday.

At this point, the interior of the offensive line is my biggest concern. Belton is clearly not developing as hoped, and Banks does not seem like Matty The Flower’s favorite dude. Vross your fingers and hope Rhyan holds up in yhe middle, Monk can pass protect at RG, and Burton can develop at LG at the speed of light.

And if they don't, the team will still be just fine. All you need is mediocre bodies across the line. Skill positions and D are what makes the difference.

Read an article on Love today and he said something that clicked (not exactly his point, but adjacent). He said that yes he lost some WR talent, but with less guys the roles get more defined and the chemistry will improve. It made me think about the way Gutes has approached the OL in his stint. The idea that guys can just jump around all over the place. OL needs chemistry as much as any group. When to hand off a block to grab a blitz. When help is needed. How long to chip before elevating to the second level. Now try to do all that from your 2nd position with 2 different possible guys lining up next to you.

When we drafted Monk I liked the "true center" pick, and I'm not really upset he has branched out to G, but the point is they seem to be learning. Some guys just need to be interior guys while others are tackles. Burton is an interior guy, no question. Morgan is an exterior. Right now I only see 2 guys "cross training" and that is Belton and Williams. And honestly Williams looked decent at LT last week. He seems to have the ZBB skill set (not as polished). And I understand why Belton "should" be ok at guard and what he lacks at tackle, but he certainly didn't excel at either. He might be the toughest guy to place so working him at both makes a little sense. But the over riding point I'm making is let guys play the position that matches the skill set....its ok to do that. And draft guys with a defined skillset. Let them build chemistry so when Banks isn't ready you actually use a guy who plays guard and has worked with Morgan subbing in.....not a tackle who you happen to think is "the 6th best guy" subbing in. There are a few select guys who can play across the line, but its NOT the norm.

John Williams got some mixed reviews at LT and someone noted that speed on that side might give him trouble. Not a tire fire but not a slam dunk.

Love and Golden had their best practice yesterday. NOT WATSON, BUT GOLDEN! Had said Watson originally.

Banks got time with the ones in 11 on 11. Which is normal for a player returning from injury to get spot subbed. He's likely still the starter.

Oladapo getting #1 snaps as slot CB with Bullard still in a boot

Zaire Franklin seems like a vocal leader, different than Walker who wouldn't back down from anyone, but I expect Frank might get some younger folks to follow his lead. He and Kraft have a good battle going and it seems intentional, Franklin says they eat together each day.

I have read that Brinson has taken a step forward on D line. He seems a lock. But I've also read that Stackhouse has improved too. Stackhouse, Ford and Campbell are likely fighting for one spot. I'd think Campbell and Stack could be on PS.

The younger, bigger WR are showing up in practice. Sturdivant and Will Sheppard yesterday. I think the Packers have the makings of some young depth on this roster. Savion also seems to be getting more notice for his play at WR and making catches.

Hadden and Domani are back in practice, helping the CB room numbers a lot.

The running game is not really having a good camp. Jacobs was back at practice though, doing individual drills.

Cox Jr. has been making some hay in pass rush attempts.

I think "the running game is not really having a good camp" can be attributed at least partly to the offensive line not having a good camp. Not in terms of run-blocking anyway.

But yes, I do think this might be the weakest running back room in a little bit, though having Aaron Jones backed up by the lumbering AJ Dillon was not ideal. But Jones was in him prime, and Jacobs seems to be on the downward part of a running back's career, while Marshawn Lloyd has to prove he can A) stay on the field, and B) not fumble often. And then there's Pierre Strong.

I also tend to agree with Bobble - moving guys all over the offensive line would ruin players' development and the sense of continuity. I'd like to see the team limit the number of positions a guy is supposed to learn, and base it on their skillsets. Maybe some guys can play both tackle spots but can't play guard, and they can learn to change up the footwork and hand placement and all that. Maybe other guys can play on only one side - RG and RT or LG and LT. Or maybe some guys can play only center and one guard spot. So, for example, by the end of preseason I hope the team will have made a decision about Belton - he's either a RG and RT, or he's a RT and LT but not a guard. But plugging him in at right guard then right tackle then left tackle - are they still trying to figure out what he does best, or is this about trying to make him so versatile he's able to play three positions? I thought the whole narrative from the team was "Well, after we threw him in at right guard after training him as a right tackle in camp, he's going to be a much better guard this year because he'll stay in that position for camp." Did he suck so hard that they're pulling the plug on him as a guard?

1. The Dentist overheated and got a vacation for recovery and testing. My only concern is that was a week+ out which either means it was a lot of testing or something significant
2. Camp Crush Part 2 Nyjalik Kelly is back practicing as is Melton (stinger)
3. Only Kinnard and Bullard are not on the field beyond those on a PUP or other injury list.

Everyone on the Packers beat:
A. Kamal Hadden has been doing well in practice at the slot and could be the backup there even if Gannon prefers a safety body type. He's also had some good turns at outside corner. CB depth looks better this week.

Tell me you don't really believe that about the O-line. While I think Love is a very overrated QB. He is still better than any back up they have. A crappy o-line will have him hurt before the 3rd game of the season.

hahahaha I'll double down on it. The reason I seldom comment on individual O Linemen is that I really don't think it makes much difference between mediocrity - which we have had so much of for so long and still had the team thrive - and supposed quality in the O Line. BTW, speaking of overrated, I saw that the old sacred cow, Bakhtiari, was criticizing fans for being too tough on damn Keisan Nixon. Talk about birds of a feather sticking together.

Love absolutely is NOT overrated IMO. He has performed wonderfully, especially in terms of not turning the ball over, and he has done it with mobility despite that mediocrity in the O Line, the same as Rodgers did so well before him. Who is better than Love around the league? Very damn few if any. Let the whiners and anti-homers chime in hahahaha.
