I've never liked glover or Jennings. I'm much more into having interior guys and exterior guys. Enough with the tweener skill set already.

If they play a 3-4 base against a likely run someone will line up as a nose. But in nickel no one will and nickel is the base defense.

Ah. So they really will only play a nose tackle maybe 30% of the time?

Interesting. Stackhouse and Ford the only "true" nose tackles. I know Hargreave has played there but clearly is not intended to here, and McClellan is talked about as playing nose but he doesn't seem like he's quite huge enough. Stackhouse weighs about fifteen pounds more and Ford weighs about twenty-five pounds more.

A nose tackle is a DL that lines up over the center and is often responsible for both A gaps. A good nose tackle needs to be stout enough to anchor against a double team without getting pushed back. Not sure how much Gannon utilizes a NT.

Apparently not much, at least this year, as he's got only two low-level legit NT's to choose from: Ford, a seventh round pick who's bounced around a bit already, and Stackhouse, a UDFA last year. I wonder which one of them is having a better camp? I know Ford weighs about ten pounds more, but I wonder which one is functionally stronger and if one has better hands than the other.

Early completions to Golden and Reed in team. Now a nice checkdown to Lloyd on a swing pass that goes for 10. Love did a great job of checking into the first play and catching the defense hitting Golden for a big gain.

Love cooking early. Hits Watson over the middle for a nice pickup. Williams right there to try and knock it out but Watson hangs on. Jonathan Ford gives Love a free play and he takes advantage. Deep down the field to Melton who makes a twisting and turning catch for a big gain. Cisse in coverage couldn’t find it.

Would be sack on Taylor for Brenton Cox. He won clean. Big reps for him today with Micah, LVN and DDS all out. Doesn’t look like Murvin Kenion is doing team today. Neyor had a slight step on BSJ but Taylor just a bit outside and Neyor can only get his finger tips on a diving attempt.

First scuffle of Packers camp is Zaire Franklin vs. Chris Brooks. Franklin basically had him pinned to the ground behind the play after Edgerrin Cooper stuffed a Lloyd run.

Golden beat Nixon clean off the line of scrimmage and had a good step on Nixon. Nixon catches up but a clear PI on the play. Big play for the offense. FWIW has been all Nixon with the 1s so far. Wyatt all over another run play.

Taylor to Hilton. Hilton has some juice. Jaylin Simpson really struggled in the game but his very strong camp continues as he picks off Tyrod Taylor deep on a go route to Prather. Good pressure up front on a blitz forced Taylor to get rid of it.

Tyrod Taylor makes a fantastic spinning one handed catch on a bad snap by Barrett - finds Nixon on a little mini screen that goes for a solid gain. Stackhouse and Kelly meet at McCord for a pressure. Finally a solid hole for Martinez - he picks up some nice yards inside.

Aaron Banks said the knee injury is tendonitis that flared up during offseason workouts. They hope its resolved before the start of the season. Surgery is not being suggested by the team.

Aaron Banks is edging closer and closer to confirmation that that signing was/is an absolute bust. I think we're all hoping his second year here shows us why Guter forked over so much cash, but it sure doesn't look like it right now.

Cisse and Simpson had picks over the weekend. It was pointed out that Simpson was asked to play slot after being mainly outside during camp. Maybe there is hope for depth here.

Leviathon (LVN) has a shoulder banged up from Saturday. Kinnard with an ankle. Cox Jr. was the next man up. The Dentist was out over the weekend for the same illness that started last Monday. Guessing he had some shredded lettuce from Taco Bell.

Everyone is treating Nixon's comments about being punished like he is complaining, sounds like normal vet talk to me. He's nursing a grudge to get back. I don't think this blows up given he is still getting reps with the 1s. But for the Packers, this is O'dell on a cruise or Romo and Witten in Cancun.

Another quote: "They ain’t really told me nothing,” Nixon said. “Every day, I find out a different thing, and I just attack it. I don’t care what it is, whether it’s me taking reps on special teams, whatever it is. I attack it, though. I’m here. Can’t really run me off, so I’m ready to play ball."

Kraft back in full team sessions now. Caught a TD in 11 on 11.

Belton Update: It was an interesting day for Anthony Belton. Having lost the starting job at right guard, he for the first time during training camp got some action at left tackle. That’s where he played in college. He split the first-team reps at right tackle with Zach Bako-Bewele. He even lined up next to Bako-Bewele as an extra tight end. (Huber)

And I keep reading that Neyor kid is throwing some good blocks and making catches. So that wide receiver room might not be as shallow as we thought.

Jaylin Simpson - wasn't he a safety in college? I do hear he's playing well as an outside corner. If he can play special teams, he'd be an interesting piece of the puzzle. Competition between him, Hadden, and Domani Jackson perhaps for that last defensive back spot?

Green Bay's offensive line does not sound like it's doing well in practices. Lots of o-linemen getting beaten like rugs. At this point, the only solid bets as far as starters seem to be the tackles. And maybe Rhyan. But Belton seems a player the coaches don't know what to do with, and Banks is out. Still. Or again.
