At this point, the Packers really could use a big body in the middle to really, really plug it up there, and Vea would fit the bill. But do you really want to give up draft capital and that much cap money for a guy who is primarily a run-stuffer now? I dunno.

He does offer some pass rush but it’s gonna be a premium price.

Kyle Shanahan got into a car accident where he broke his hand and three ribs, his nose and had lacerations that required 40 stitches. He also suffered a severe concussion. He's in the coaches version of the concussion protocol and his wife (?!) was calling team leaders to give them the news just prior to camp. Which is kinda funny (and I don't mean witty) since Kyle has supposedly been in the building since the accident.

The other driver got away injury free. The police say its not their policy to announce fault in the accident. Drugs and alcohol were ruled out. The accident occurred July 14 and broke yesterday, the day of a John Lynch PC. Which means a LOT of people sat on this report. And I don't just mean scoopsters beholden to GM sources, but all media and all law enforcement folks, which is rare. Even TMZ didn't break it.

SI has a write-up. Shanny was written up in the report (not cited) for holding his cell phone while driving. And the other driver, the uninjured one, crossed into his lane. Both contradict the statement he made yesterday.

After lengthy discussions today with doctors, 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall is expected to undergo season-ending surgery on the nagging PCL injury that dates back to last season and be out for the year, John Lynch told reporters. Pearsall is expected to make a full recovery

Just a personal aside: I can't stand the phrase "thoughts and prayers." That doesn't mean jack shit, except you want everyone to know how sympathetic you are and you don't want to be left out. Reid is talking about it like it's a football injury to work through. I'm pretty sure "you have to work through it" isn't the same for Eric Bienemy or Mia Bienemy as it is for a player rehabbing a torn achilles. Their fucking son shot his mother. Say something real, for Chrissakes, Andy. You don't just "work through it."

Have to disagree. It lets the family know you are thinking of them. Not sure what you want the phrase to be. "Tough break yo" seems lacking.

Bears safety Coby Bryant is expected to be sidelined 8-10 weeks due to a hyperextended knee, bone bruise and small fracture that he suffered at today’s practice, per sources. No surgery is expected to be needed.

Sweat still holding in. But Packers offer isn't enough yet. Cowboys have also called. Sweat wants Gannon, Eagles are his number 2.

Jamal Adams also is not good at coverage, which is an issue for a safety. He's basically an undersized linebacker who gets hurt a lot and is now old. It's the same kind of hype as Isaiah Simmons. Flores is smart and can probably do something with Adams, but I'd have no issues with Kraft beating him consistently.

Vita Vea wants to play somewhere warm and coastal, preferably the West Coast. I don't think GB qualifies, and honestly I wouldn't want him for the price he (and the Tampa front office) would want. They just drafted Brinson and McClellan and paid a bunch of money to Wyatt and Hargrave. Plus they gave up a lot of picks for Parsons. I don't see Gute making a big move for a 30 year old NT.

The Darnell Wright contract got some buzz. I think he's a good player, but that's a lot of guaranteed money for a very good RT. Zach BB's contract looks pretty good.

I don't think the timing is going to work out for the Josh Sweat thing. I've heard ARI wants a pretty high pick, and he'd basically be an expensive rental. Plus if Sorrell continues to play well Gute may not feel the need to make a move.

Honestly based on camp notes it sounds like Gannon is going to manufacture pressure with Edgerrin Cooper and corner/safety blitzes and inside pressure from Wyatt/Hargrave. If they can get a couple of stops and MLF gets his offense in gear they may do well enough until Parsons is back.

See the last Bears game for how far that gets you though. It’s a kludge and they could use pass rush even when Parsons gets back unless you or Gute are convinced Van Ness will break out.
