  • 2026 State of The Franchise

Owners meeting was this week. Silverstein has some complaints.

    1. Since Murphy did his last coach and GM renewals, the Packers have apparently bowed to the wishes of LaFleur and Gutenkunst and not released even the length of their contracts. Policy continued to refuse to answer that question through the meeting. According to Tom, Bob Harlan had to insist Ted Thompson release the length of McCarthy's first deal. Since its the principals doing the insisting, I doubt these are secretly double probation short deals. But its troubling this trend continues.

    2. Packers are trying to get the city to slow down the negotiated rent increases for Lambeau. Their threat isn't to move but to go to the State and seen tax-payer funds to support the stadium upgrades. I can only assume a significant amount of this maintenance money is for storing the free weights when they change strength and conditioning coaches.

    3. The rainy day fund is expected to top 1 billion after this year

    4. The Packers reported a $1.1 million loss in profit from operations last year, the result of eating so many contracts and handing out large new deals. Both player costs and total revenues set records on increases of 4.7 percent (the article doesn't specify which number went up 4.7%, it says the other went up more)

I’d like to see the Packers issue more stocks to fund a retractable roof above Lambeau.

I mean, the Wisconsin cold hasn’t been mystical since dog killa, Mike Vick, and his Dirty Birds flocked to Lambeau Field and shat on it and all over the Packers with ease. And besides, the field is heated - opponents don’t feel the cold anymore.

All open air does is make life miserable for us humble fans. I was at the Seafucks-Packers Divisonal game in the snow storm, and my shoes got wet. I was colder than Pluto at night. Think Ole Rastak misses open air at the Metrosexual Dome?

Spoon said the reserve fund will hit 1 billion "in a matter of years", which is kind of an unspecified time. I think Policy felt pressured to either extend of fire MLF/Gute because he didn't want people (including players) to know they were entering the last year of their contracts. By not announcing the length of their extensions, he may feel he can keep that information secret in the future.

True, I jumped the gun there. They added just $15 mil last year to the fund.

I have no doubt they would prefer to keep it quiet. Because it was short term or because it was for a four or five year deal. But the press shouldn't let them keep this quiet.

I saw Policy was crying poverty. Isn't it a little early to be making excuses??

Who cares how long the GM and HC contracts are? I don't. If Policy decides to replace them soon, lengthy contracts will mean very little and surely won't stop him from firing them when he decides to do it. If the renewals are short, so what? Just a new boss taking small steps setting his course in what has been a successful operation for a long, long time.

It's hard to feel sorry the the machine that is the Green Bay Packer organization. They might be publicly owned, but they pretty much seem to run the city of Green Bay.

Because it reflects his confidence in the jobs they are doing. And they are asking for public money. Very simple. Let us know how you are spending that money.
