I wonder, how many of the people who are terribly concerned about the state of the defensive line going into 2009 were also terribly concerned about the TE, FB, and WR corps position going into 2007. Since, if I remember correctly, a lot of people were terribly unhappy that Thompson did nothing to fill those holes at about this point during the Free Agency period (Justin Griffith anybody?), but we still seemed to do pretty well at TE, FB, and WR in the 2007 season.
It's entirely possible that football fans and "professional football talent evaluators and coaches" see the state of the Packers defensive line in slightly different lights.
I mean, we could use depth, anybody can see that, but even Olshansky'st $4.5 million/year for 4 years is a lot to pay for depth. Not many NFL teams pay >$3 million per year to sign a backup.
