I would say the ZBB situation is more like Bakh. Joe Johnson was more like Aaron Banks.

ZBB is likely done as a Packer, he is cap neutral next year so I suspect they will cut him lose. Did he come back too soon? Not heal right? How do you tear the same tendon twice back to back? Feel awful for the guy. He is such a good player when healthy.

If he is only cap neutral, then the Packers will give him every opportunity to see if he can get back to form. If he heals well, he should be ready by camp. It's not like the Packers have a surplus of quality offensive linemen.

I don't think the ZBB situation is actually that much like Bakhtieri's situation, simply because Bakh was 29 years old when he received his extension, and ZBB was 26.

This is just plain bad luck. Period. Not a mistake to extend ZBB, unless you somehow had a crystal ball and knew he'd get hurt like he did. Which nobody has.

Fritz mentioned this elsewhere but according to the Mosqueda read at Acme Packing, the Packers offense was its usual game plan self versus the Vikings when the floodgates opened on pass rush pressure. Long QB drops off the non-functioning run game were getting big plays but was not easy to sustain as they weren't getting any yardage on runs so drives stalled.

When they changed things up in the second half the Vikes dropped out of blitzes (their blitz looks stayed high in the second half but the number of 5 or more pass rushers dropped) they sank more players into coverage. By the time the Packers adjusted to that, the offense and Love were coming unglued.

The Jets game was much more short passing game from the get go. This hurts the offenses ability to disguise intentions with its zone runs and boots but was obviously needed for self preservation.

I think its obvious now with a new O Line guy in the building that the Packers knew they needed a remake there. Teasing out whether it was Gute's draft picks or failure to develop under Butkus, takes a level of sophistication and knowledge I am not sure we posses here. Most of what we have is inference.

But my gut says go with the youth and make them better.

I don't fault them for Bakhtiari's contract. He had a solid career injury-wise to that point. He missed a few games because of illness and minor injuries, but had no significant injuries and was an All-Pro left tackle still playing at an All-Pro level. No reason to not think he could go another 3 or 4 years. Tearing an ACL in a late season practice and having the repair go so very, very badly was bad luck
