I'm a little irked by Gutes...whats new right? Sky Moore is out and we have a roster spot with Hargrave being done. Why have we not went out and signed a return specialist to a short term deal? There are guys out there who would love a chance to audition for the league. Honestly deciding we can get by with Golden or whoever seems like an unforced error that could cost as at a minimum field position or at worst a possession. Does this guy never learn?

Savion seems likely to be the guy up next. Not a returner but maybe slot?
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

Savion did return 28 kickoffs last year. But not punts. I'm kind of okay with Golden returning punts for a couple games until Moore is back.

            Silverstein on Twitter:

Packers activated WR Savion Williams off injured reserve/designated for return, placed DT Jonathan Ford, DT Javon Hargrave and WR Skyy Moore on injured reserve, and elevated edge Arron Mosby and WR Coleman Owen from the practice squad to the active roster for gameday.

Looks like the Packers will be signing someone at DT next week.

Back when we had a quality GM they would attack these issues. Roell Preston, Allen Rossum ? Returners out there. I'm idiotic to put Golden back there. With Reed gone, he absolutely needs to stay healthy.
TERD Buckley over Troy Vincent, Robert Ferguson over Chris Chambers, Kevn King instead of TJ Watt, and now, RICH GANNON, over JIMMY JIMMY JIMMY LEONARD. Thank you FLOWER

This just feels like one of those games we do just enough to lose. I hope I’m wrong.

Yeah but that guy left because he didn't want to deal with the salary cap anymore. So its possible things have changed.

The question I'd like answered is would you be better off with 3-4 ST demons or 3-4 developmental guys? A lot depends on who the last guys to make the squad are. Do you get Sam Shield if you are keeping Welch, St. Juste, Jarret Bush and Desmond Howard?

This year might test that theory. Kristian Welch will be active and possibly in line to get ILB snaps.

Its also likely different because there is a 17 man taxi-squad.

Well, neither one of those guys were acquired in the middle of the season. And that was about a quarter century ago. So it seems acquiring a quality returner in the middle of the season isn't that easy. Like Ron Wolf, Gute. addressed the issue in the offseason. Sometimes in football, injuries interrupt your plans. Besides, is returning punts that dangerous? Less dangerous than catching a pass between 2 defenders, I would think.

WR Coleman Owen was elevated and he is a college trained slot who has also returned punts. Could see him in there replacing Golden.

He was awful when he took over last game. We got away with it. Not sure how long we will get away with it.

In a salary cap era, where coach access to players in the offseason is limited and players are expected to develop themselves, I think you know where I stand on this. Developing a guy just in time to pay him isn't the model anymore. If you don't develop Sam Shield you sign him instead. If coaches can really work with kids maybe you can develop a guy in 2 seasons and get 2 more cheap, but that simply isn't the way things work anymore.

There are several college return guys on practice squads or even bagging groceries that aren't viable WRs at this level that could be signed temporarily.
