Posted by Mike Florio on April 24, 2009, 10:59 p.m.

    Wow.

    It’s done.

The Lions have agreed to terms with quarterback Matthew Stafford.

According to Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com, Stafford’s deal is worth $78 million over six years, with $41.7 million guaranteed.

    Wow.

The contract is worth $41.7 million guaranteed over six years. The number could grow to $78 million with incentives.
Well, if it's closer to $41M than $78M, that would be a big difference. Wonder what the incentives are.

Well, I would say the quality of QB'ing in the NFC North may have gotten better this offseason. And this time, the Packers neither had to pull off the trade of the decade or have the guy fall into their lap.

Rumor is that the Rams have booked a ticket for Mark Sanchez to fly to St. Louis on Sunday.

Probably monster numbers at the end if incentives are reached plus playing time bonuses for when he takes over. Wonder what this will do to Culpepper's new attitude?

Saw that. Trying to stir up interest in their pick? Seems fishy.

Rodgers has 6 years, 65 mil with 40 coming in the first 3 years and 20 guaranteed. Rodgers is ready to play right now though. His prime starts next year and he's already proven he's at least really good.

This guy gets 78 with 40 guaranteed and it's going to take at least a year, probably two or three before he's ready to play up to that contract. It mgiht never happen. Crazy. I would not want the top pick unless it was a once in a decade type player. You can't even consider making Curry the highest paid LB in the NFL before he takes a snap. Freaking nuts.

                      Peyton Manning or Ryan Leaf?

A once in a decade player could be there and you could still get it wrong. And many would have with that one.

It's no different than any other year. I don't think I'd want the top pick in any draft regardless of who was there.

This pay scale is WAY out of hand. That guy has double the guaranteed cash that A-Rod does and A-Rod is at least proven to be capable of leading a team. This guy has shown nothing. For fucks sakes... Jeeezus.

If the commish can get that rookie cap passed, he'll be doing a great thing for the fans but mostly for the players that deserve that money.

                            Several Points to make here:

                            1. Happy day for Packer fans. Stafford is a bust! Pure and simple. He makes careless decision after careless decision. I am very happy that Detroit wasted their pick and all their money on this scum bag.

                            2. Stafford is making way too much money! My God! How can the NFL keep paying these no-bodies this much. Aaron Rodgers deserves way more then Stafford! This problem needs to be fixed ASAP! What a joke.

                            3. I love the draft! Wowzer! Let's get this thing started!

This dumba** contract is another reason Goodell better get a rookie salary cap in place.

I've heard retirees like Harry Sydney say he's OK with it, because the team is showing they want to win. HUH?!

Any vet that thinks a snot-nosed junior QB should get the same as most of the starting QBs in the NFL should get their heads checked.

Even if he is a can't miss QB, considering the economic hellhole that is the US auto industry, it's beyond belief that the Lions would pay that much jack for a player.
