Raji and Matthews seem like good teammates already...
I have noticed that many Californians have no sense of geography outside of their own state. They have trouble with the concept of Lake Michigan. Texans are similar.

Matthews and Carpenter aren't comparable, IMHO. Carpenter was a big hoss, but wasn't overly athletic. Those guys can make it in the NFL. Guys like Vrabel and Bruschi come to mind. Matthews needs to put on some weight, but he's more athletic than Carpenter.
With his lovely blond locks, he's earned the nickname "Barbie" Carpenter with the Cowboys.

This lack of geographical knowledge is generally true of many Americans, not just people from California or Texas. I think part of the reason is that schools have cut "fringe" subjects like geography, music, art, P.E in recent years. The cuts have come about both because of efforts to meet NCLB standardized benchmarks and for diminishing funding for schools.

Does it also have something to do with opening up the curriculum to non-historical, non-fundamental subjects to appease the PC crowd? Giving high school kids a college-style smorgasbord of classes to choose from. I haven't been in high school for a long time, but I've seen the curriculum of some high schools here in the Twin Cities. It made me want to cry.

I don't know if its because I went to the top public highschool school in Rhode Island but we knew our geography in like 7th grade ... Not only did we know our geography, but every year they would brush you up on it a bit... Now I could see if you were saying a random state that has no historic football team, then maybe it could pass by you... But if your playing football for a living, if you watched one GB Packers game in your life (esp on primetime) they will shower you about Wisconson / GB...

That's what I'm saying. It's like electing someone president of the U.S. and having him/her tell reporters "Yeah, I'm real excited. I looked up 'Washington, D.C.' on Wikipedia right away. Sounds like a cool place!"
"The Devine era is actually worse than you remember if you go back and look at it."
This Meredith guy, to me, seems like the type of guy that vets will keep in line for a few years and they'll get good performance out of, but not the type of guy you'd ever dream of throwing any real money at or give a leadership role.
