That is entirely possible, it just seems out of the norm. I mean, TT & MM value versatility on the o-line so much, that it would be out of character to sign him strictly as a back-up.

Interestingly, if they did sign him. Who would get cut ?

I was thinking the same thing. Might be the biggest reason we dont see him in green and gold.

Your chronology is probably right and he did miss a ton of starts while he was carrying a pretty big ticket to the pay window. The Bengals didn't cut his pay, they just offered him less money, then cut him when he wouldn't take it? Sure, that was probably how he got handled. My point was that he did play when severely damaged and got treated poorly for doing so.

He had a beef with the way he was treated in Cincy and some of those feelings were justified.

I'm only interested in the idea he could help us thru a shaky patch at LT. That is a possibility, & I'd bring him in and work him out. He might be a solution and we can use one of those. He's definitely not the "final solution", but he might help.

He's out since May for a variety of reasons, one of which might be he can't play anymore. if he can go, he is better than the young bloods we have on the bench.
        K.

Like i said, no countering bengals effed up FO and his ability...but, they paid him big dollars...and, he didn't produce...whatever the reason.

Was jones the one that got in the fight with porter in Vegas?
Yeah. Porter and his boys jumped Levi. It all stems back to the fact that Levi used to shut Joey up and out on the field. I kid you not, Levi in his prime was a real good hand at LT. How far are we from his prime? A good ways. He might have a few quarts left in the tank.

I saw Levi shut Joey Porter down twice and Dwight Freeny, when Dwight was killin' it.

I doubt we sign him, definitely won't if Chad can play Monday.

My fault, ty didn't mean to express he was a replacement for Barbre....ty was using Barbre as the measuring stick of badness.

The thought of Barbre and Jones at the tackles is is outright scary..

Jones....i think was benched after j. allan destroyed him against the Bengals....almost got Palmer killed.

Yessir, was sittin' there mindin' his own business when porter's loud mouthed brother wouldn't leave him alone. Then Porter sucker punches him while he was sitting with his back turned. Joey, brother, and friend kicked him about 10 times each while he fought to his feet then proceeded to toss all 3 of them around like rag dolls as joey ran behind a female security guard.

And that is a first hand account. And for the record the female security guard was named angel and stood about 5'2" (WTF was she doing being the first one to the scene?)

So if the Pack hires this guy -

                Do we call him "501"?

Or - maybe we call him "Buttonfly"?

It's never too early for lame nicknames.

                  Levi, Levi liked his money.

And if the Packers hire him, do they cut Evan "Marlene" Dietrich-Smith and activate Giaco-whoever to back up at right tackle?

Is he developed enough to back up Barbe as well as, say, Tony Moll might have?

                    His prime was 2003 - 2005.

He got in the groove rapidly for a young tackle and was a top hand at handling speed rushers. He had great footwork and Joey Porter didn't piss a drop against him. Yeah, the Steelers beat the Bengals in that time-frame, but Jones had great games against all speed rushing guys in that same period. Jones downfall came when he came back after a knee scope way too quickly. He never got back to his peak and stayed hurt due to various leg miseries.

I'd look at him bc he has had some time to heal. if he could get back to 80% of his top form, he'd be way better than the kids we have and others we are looking at.

                    From the GBPG...

Levi Jones, 5 other offensive linemen work out for Packers
The Packers worked out three guards and three tackles on Monday, according to a source with access to the NFL's internal transaction wire.

The most notable name was tackle Levi Jones, the former first-round draft pick who has played in 94 NFL games (including 89 starts), all for the Cincinnati Bengals.

The other two tackles were: Peter Fields, who plays for the Odessa Roughnecks of the Indoor Football League, and Isaac Sowells, a former fourth-round pick of the Cleveland Browns.

The three guards were: Cody Balogh of Montana (who has spent time on the Bears practice squad), Stanley Daniels of Washington and Ryan Delrosal of Dixie State.

                    Quote off

That's the second guy we've looked at from that Odessa team. Must be a smokin' ballclub.

Levi Jones was once a top LT in the NFL. Nobody knows this, cause he played for the Bengali's, but it is true.
