  • Clifton re-signed

    Adam_Schefter

Filed to ESPN: Packers re-signed OT Chad Clifton. 3 years, $20 million, 7.5 million guaranteed.

Well they got the deal done. It may be more than they wanted to pay, but I think they had to do it for Aaron Rodgers' sake.

    That's GREAT to hear!!

We can argue what he's worth dollar for dollar at this age with his condition but I'm glad to know he'll be a lifelong Packer and love the move all around.

If we aren't gonna spend money on other teams' over-the-hill FA's, at least do it on our own (the ones we need)!

    Way to go TT/Sexton/CC/etc!

That's quite a bit of money and a lot of years for a guy who might not last 2, let alone three. But it's better than nothing. You have Clifton starting this year, with Lang and a Rookie behind him. Eventually, you'll find someone else.

Nice..great move. Didn't overpay him and that gives us time to develop someone to replace him. It also puts Lang at RT where he would be better suited..unless they re-sign Tauscher too.

7 guaranteed... I'm sure a lot has to do with his health status as the final two years play out.

It looks like a standard TT deal.

With only 7.5 mil guaranteed, it's not too bad. I wonder if this was the Packers original offer, or if they increased their offer after Clifton visited Washington.

7.5 guaranteed? A bit much, but I'm not going to complain. He's got the experience and we know him as much as he knows us. Great signing. Now if we can get Tausch re-signed and draft a couple more OL I'll be happy..

Forgot to mention, if they would have tagged him instead of Pickett he'd be owed 10.7 million, so TT did good here..

Yeah, old or not he's still rated the #1 UFA LT on the market, right?

Even if we draft some good bodies for the OL, I think next year would be too full of growing pains to just cut our old farts.

                          Hey Ziggy!

The question is now, does this now shift the Packer's focus for the draft? Or will one of the numerous tackle prospects wind up in Green Bay with the Pack's 1st round pick?

I would still expect the Packers to draft an OT in the 1st 2 rounds. Doubtful that Clifton's long-term replacement is currently on the Packers roster.

Well that guarantee makes far more sense than Cole's report of $20 million.

It's essentially a one year contract guaranteed and then two team/player options for 2 years. That's not bad at all. He got a raise of just over a million. Probably not TT's favorite signing ever, but at least McCarthy will talk to him next week.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.
