It's a really deep draft for DT's. I can't fault BPA. Our DL is alright, but like Harv said, Jolly and Jenkins are both up after this year. Jolly has the suspension. Oh, and Neal might be a really good player too. . .
We all talked about the powder puff Packers for years. Well, now we're investing in the trenches. That's football. It's not flashy, but big guys win games.
I compare it to the Jordy Nelson pick a couple of years ago. Believe it or not but we are not as knowledgeable as an NFL front office. They have their reasons for drafting a player and just maybe Ted will give you two maybe even three sentences on why they drafted him.
The true 5-techniques on the roster are: Cullen Jenkins, Johnny Jolly, Justin Harrell, and Jarius Wynn.
Jenkins and Jolly are free agents after this year, and may want to command big bucks. Harrell might never get on the field and Wynn has potential, but isn't there yet.
The Neal pick gives Thompson the flexibility to play hardball with either Jolly or Jenkins.
Positives: Physical specimen, ran a 4.88-40 and put up 31 reps of 225 lbs. at the combine... Tremendous power to push the pocket into the backfield, has a nice bull-rush... Active hands, gains leverage vs. opposing lineman, does a nice job shedding blocks... Good motor, plays hard, has good range and makes plays all over the field... Very explosive first step, gets into linemen quickly and can be very disruptive... Plays with appropriate pad level, holds up well at the point of attack... Was given Purdue's Hammer Award as hardest hitter on the team... Team captain... Best fit is as a 4-3 under tackle... Really improved his stock this season.
Negatives: Struggles to get away from blockers while on the move... Does not have great change-of-direction quickness, has a difficult time getting by blockers... Lacks productive counter moves, can be held up if initial push is stopped... Not much of a playmaker.
any of you big ten guys see this guy last year? never even heard of him... did he ever stand out besides these senior bowl games?
(really leaving soon, she's getting ready )
what's our next pick?
yeah baby, real football in the big ten unlike that suckass weak shit down south. no friggin clue on this guy. down year for me watching those games last fall.
We're gonna need a good run defense...that starts up front. Dom must like him.
That's the key, Swede. It was Dom's pick, not TT's.
If there is anything we have learned, from three FBs, to Favre to Ryan to trading Moll, its TTs roster. He made that call.
He made it without consulting Dom? Come on.
One time Lombardi was disgusted with the team in practice and told them they were going to have to start with the basics. He held up a ball and said: "This is a football." McGee immediately called out, "Stop, coach, you're going too fast," and that gave everyone a laugh. John Maxymuk, Packers By The Numbers

Consult? Sure. Decide when to pick? No.
One of the Packer coaches talked about interacting with personnel. They are asked to review tape pf players and project them into the scheme and position, to find the fits and misfits. That does not make it a Dom pick.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

with all these attributes, i am mostly hoping he is also a mean son of a bitch.

Not when. Who.
