  • Playoffs?! Don't talk about playoffs! Are you kidding me? Playoffs?

Oh Jim Mora... words were never spoken so true and eloquently.

But - we should talk about them... and what help we need to get there.

Assuming we lose to NE and beat Giants/Bears (none of which seem that plausible after last week's game)...

    NFC
#1 - Falcons - 14-2 or 13-3 (Saints is a toss up game, rest are cake)
#2 - Giants 11-5 (beat Eagles, lose to Pack, beat Skins) - beat Eagles on common games
#3 - Bears 10-6 (beat Vikes, lose to Jets and Pack) - beat Pack on division record
    #4 - Rams 8-8 (beat Chiefs/Niners, lose to Seahawks)
#5/6 - Saints 11-5 (lose to Ravens and Falcons, beat Bucs)
#6/6 - Eagles 11-5 (lose to Giants, beat Vikes and Cowboys)

    So...
We have to hope the Bears lose to the Vikes (likely without Favre) then Pack would have to win on common games (8 to 7 - else we go to tiebreaker number 5 (strength of victory - which Pack likely win)) - or -
Eagles lose to either Vikes or Cowboys (and finish 10-6 - losing wild card tiebreaker #1 w/ Packers from week 1) - or -
Giants lose to Eagles and we beat Giants (thus winning the wild card tiebreaker) - or -

Personally - I'd love the Division - so cheer for Bears to lose out. Otherwise, we have to hope the Giants lose to the Eagles and we beat the Giants - to win the wildcard (@ 10-6).

Time to wish for a Christmas present or two.... So disappointing as we should be aiming for HFA - not squeaking in with help. Damn injuries.
The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have.

I don't care what their record says. The Bears are a terrible football team undeserving of a playoff spot. The football gods will hear none of that noise. Their prestigous tournament will not be sullied by such a god awful participant.

1 game back with 3 to go. No sweat. Chicago is a terrible football team currently playing the toughest part of their schedule. If they don't beat the Vikings, they won't win another game this season. As long as we take care of business at home the division should still be ours.

Not going to lie I want to be prophetic so 10-6 wins the division

Man, fate would really be messing with the Bears then. The Vikings are currently down to Joe Webb at QB and looking to sign a FA off the street: http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcnorth/pos...ld-upon-return

IMO, though, Webb looked better than TJack last night.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Bears clinch the division with a win over the vikings and a GB loss.

You are correct sir. Amazing what that loss to Detroit did to the Packers playoff chances.

Yup - we have to hope they lose to the Vikes (and us) - then it would go down to to common games and then conference games (then strength of victory).
Long shot at best the way TJack has been playing. But playing outdoors in MN in December - anything could happen.

Forecast for Minneapolis on Monday is a high in the low 20's, with a low Monday night in the single digits. I'm inclined to think that a team playing for a division title will play harder in that kind of weather than a team just playing out the season. Only if Favre plays do I see the Vikings having much of a chance. T-Jack hasn't been playing well, and may not play at all anyway. Vikings have gone from having the most durable QB in history to trying to figure out who can play Monday night.

The early losses were bad enough, but the Detroit loss practically killed our chances. If A-Rod can't make a Farve-like comeback and put together some victories then it will be a very cold and bitter playoff-season with a Super Bowl-favorite watching from the sidelines.

Green Bay Packers will need help to make playoffs
But schedule is toughest of contenders
                    BY MIKE VANDERMAUSE • MVANDERM@GREENBAYPRESSGAZETTE.COM • DECEMBER 14, 2010

The good news for the Green Bay Packers is they still hold out hope of landing an NFC playoff berth with three games remaining.

The Packers fell to 8-5 and are the No. 8 seed in the NFC, and only six conference teams qualify for the playoffs.

“The positive part about it is that everything that we still want to accomplish is in front of us,” said Packers coach Mike McCarthy following the loss to the Lions.

That may be true, but the Packers no longer control their playoff destiny and will need help to make it to the postseason.

The Packers face the most difficult remaining schedule of any NFC playoff contender with a road game at New England (11-2) and home games against the New York Giants (9-4) and Chicago Bears (9-4).

Even if the Packers win their remaining games to finish 11-5 they are not guaranteed a playoff berth. An NFC team has never missed the playoffs with an 11-5 mark, but New England was left out of the postseason in 2008 with that record.

The Packers trail the Bears by one game in the NFC North, but the division race could be decided this weekend. If the Packers lose to the Patriots and the Bears beat Minnesota, Chicago will be crowned the NFC North champion no matter what happens in the final two weeks.

That’s because the Bears, by virtue of beating the Vikings, will win any tiebreaker over the Packers on the basis of a better division record. The Bears are 4-0 against division opponents, while the Packers are 3-2 with NFC North losses to Chicago and Detroit.

New Orleans (10-3) has the inside track to earn one of two NFC wild-card berths, leaving the Packers to fight for the other spot with Tampa Bay (8-5), Philadelphia (9-4) and the Giants.

If the Packers beat the Giants on Dec. 26 they would hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over both New York and Philadelphia. However, Tampa Bay could win its remaining games to finish 11-5 and would hold the tiebreaker over the Packers based on a better conference record.

The Packers can capture the NFC North on a tiebreaker only if Chicago loses to Minnesota. In that case, which assumes a Green Bay win over the Bears in the season finale, the Packers would be declared the division champion based on a better conference record.
There is a potential three-way wild-card scenario involving the Packers, Buccaneers and either the Giants or Eagles, with each team finishing 10-6, in which the Packers would win the tiebreaker based on strength of victory, which is determined by the combined overall records of vanquished opponents.

The potential for eight NFC teams to finish with double-digit victory totals this season isn’t unprecedented. It also happened in 1991, and a pair of 10-6 teams didn’t make the playoffs that year.

Only once since the NFL merger in 1970 did the Packers post a double-digit victory total — 10-6 in 1989 — and not make the playoffs.
                    Thanks Ted!

We may not win another game. If the Pats kick our asses, the Giants have something to play for, the Bears, well the Bears just beat us. This was a very bad time for MM to call plays like he was playing Madden.

It sounds as if TJack won't play b/c of turf toe. The Vikes are working out QBs to back up Webb atm.

I truly believe that if we beat the Giants and Bears we will be in. the Eagles and Giants play this week. We have the tiebreaker over the eagles already, with the possibility of getting it over the giants.

The part that is tough is seeing the Bucs slip up more than once. Really need Detroit to help us out and take them out Sunday

Supposedly the forecast is snow also. That would benefit the Vikings since they have the better run game and have no QB...also we've seen how the Bears play in snow this year.
