I know we're all clamouring for quality of quantity, is a 6th or 7th rounder really any more of a crapshoot than a 5th?

I agree that he wants the rights to those guys he would normally go after as UFA's.
I totally agree with you guys that he's trying to load up with the uncertainty of the UFA's.

Gave up 5 spots in the 6th and picked up 13 spots in the 7th.

Very good point Red. Could easily be the idea.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

                      • I think he may correctly be thinking the UDFA's will go to other teams because tehy will have a better chance to stick elsewhere.

I don't buy it here--you're giving up two picks and getting two picks. I'm thinking it's more of a case of "the guy we want will still be there in five picks".
Teamwork is what the Green Bay Packers were all about. They didn't do it for individual glory. They did it because they loved one another.

                          • Can't be too many more trades. There aren't enough picks.

Could be that as well. But does that cover each of the 5 picks he has in the last two rounds? I think its some of both here.

And we might get closer to the old complaint of Thompson trading down so often he has the entire 7th round at his disposal.

                                Makes sense.
