You think Sherod would have done any better against Allen? There is a reason he leads the league in sacks and is on pace to break the sack record for a season. Dude is a beast!

I don't know whether Sherrod would do better than Newhouse. I know that Newhouse has struggled, he's given up the most sacks on the line, and he has not shown steady improvement. His play against the Chargers was up and down, with some pretty big downs.
I think a change, were it to have happened, would have needed to take place after the bye. But I do think Newhouse is struggling. And as the protector of A-Rod's blindside, that makes me nervous.

I could just be imagining it, but sometimes it seems like you can see, in relation to other players on the field that Newhouse is a bit small for a typical Left Tackle these days. Sherrod looks bigger than Bulaga and the same build as Clifton. If Sherrod has arms like Clifton, it probably explains why his upside seems higher and he seems pre-destined to slide into Left Tackle. Whether he could handle it now or not, I am not sure. But after two shaky plays in Atlanta, he seemed to adjust well and have very few pass pro problems even on the right side. He just kept engulfing the rushers.Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

Allen reminds me a bit of Dick Butkis in '69. Playing for the 1-13 Bears, the guy gets defensive player of the year. It takes a lot of heart to play all-out for a losing cause.
I agree with the comment above about Newhouse. You have to play to - and past the whistle - against guys like Allen. Keep the motor running, because they will. If you want some of the best tape ever on Cliffy, just look to his shut out of Allen at KC in 2007. That was total mastery. And was Allen pissed in the lockerroom afterwards!"Never, never ever support a punk like mraynrand. Rather be as I am and feel real sympathy for his sickness." - Woodbuck

Newhouse should've popped him one when he was trying to get up. Or fallen on top of him when he was down.Originally posted by mraynrand View PostAllen reminds me a bit of Dick Butkis in '69. I don't know why you guys are saying that he hasn't played well. I think he has filled in capably. No, he's not a star by any means, but he only gave up 1 sack to Jallen Macbeerbearbeast, so I think he's holding things down alright.

I agree. I specifically watched Newhouse on replay - every play. He did well. Got confused by a stunt a little bit, didn't play to the whistle another time. Gave up a sack. Starks was more of a problem than Newhouse I thought."Never, never ever support a punk like mraynrand. Rather be as I am and feel real sympathy for his sickness." - Woodbuck

To be fair, I think they were only down 17-0 when he was still gesticulating. By the time the deficit reached 20 points even he knew he would just look retarded.Originally posted by Iron Mike View PostScrew that, the guy is an embarrassment.....gesticulating when his team is down by 30+ points. That's Nick-Barnett-Samurai-Pose stupid.
