Another tough gameday thread after drinking a bit more than I normally do. Didn't go anywhere last night so I guess I'm officially 'old'. Hope everyone enjoyed themselves and is/was safe!
The weather today in Green Bay is a lot different than a week ago. We're looking at 1.5-2 inches of snow and a balmy 31-32 degrees, which should make it pretty slushy down on the field. With winds in the 25 MPH range and bursting to 40 MPH at times, don't expect to see a lot of pretty football. Could give the Packers an edge.
Vegas opened the line at Lions -3, which marked the first time all season the Packers are an underdog. Public -- again this week -- is all over the Lions moving the line a full point to -4 at many books. Given the uncertainty of who's playing and for how long, this game is really a no-play for me, but there could be some value on the Packer side.
Play this game in a dome in perfect conditions and there's no way the Packers beat a motivated Lions playing all out to win. That said, these are the kind of games that can get really strange and Matt Flynn is essentially playing for his first big contract. I said it last week -- and I was wrong -- but I do expect to see a lot more running game this week. With a lot of young Packers getting their first real exposure to the regular season, there's a good chance we'll see more effort than we normally would for the conditions.
Everyone expects an easy Lions win. Bah!
24-20 Packers -- Matt Flynn does enough to win and the defense makes a couple big plays to setup easy scores or even get one themselves. Plus, I don't want to have to give up doing the thread for the playoffs!!
It's gonna be a weird one today and I'm looking forward to it!
GO PACK GO!
