How come the Colts aren't franchising Manning and trading him to Miami for at least a #2?

Irsay is cheap and an egomaniac. He wants to prove you can win inexpensively with just draft picks and bailing twine.Originally posted by mraynrand View PostHow come the Colts aren't franchising Manning and trading him to Miami for at least a #2?
I also find in funny that while everyone calls on Irsay to keep Manning, no one is calling on Manning to push back that bonus (or lower it). If they have, I have missed it.
But this is a rare cases where the athlete and team and both pursuing their own interests so nakedly and no one seems to be able to accept it. Someone must always be wrong.Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

I know when you look at it, if Peyton is healthy it's a dumb decision to part ways with him...but I can't fault Irsay for doing this. I think Irsay is an idiot, personally, but it's the right decision to make. Potentially, Mannings 2012 income would be around the same amount as Andrew Luck's total contract will be. Which, shame on the Colts last year for giving him that deal, I thought that when they did it, but oh well. For the Colts, do you really bring back a guy like Manning on a team that even with him maybe wins 8 or 9 games? I mean they're not good, but then again, they really haven't been good for a few years, Manning has carried that team. People are comparing this to the Packer/Favre divorce, but it's not comparable. Favre was retired...yes he came back, yes he had what, 1.5 good years after leaving Green Bay. But for the future of our franchise we moved on, much like the Colts...the only thing is Luck truly is an unknown product. McCarthy & Thompson at least had their hands on Rodgers for a few years to know what they were getting."I would love to have a guy that always gets the key hit, a pitcher that always makes his best pitch and a manager that can always make the right decision. The problem is getting him to put down his beer and come out of the stands and do those things." - Danny Murraugh

I know that, you know that, about 40% of Packer fans know that, but is it really fossilized into the knowledge base of what should be a knowledgeable football media that Green Bay "let" Favre go?Originally posted by ND72 View PostFavre was retired...yes he came back, yes he had what, 1.5 good years after leaving Green Bay. Yes, in the end, he was still under contract and was traded away. But the Favre situation and the Manning situation are very, very different circumstances.[QUOTE=George Cumby] ...every draft (Ted) would pick a solid, dependable, smart, athletically limited linebacker...the guy who isn't doing drugs, going to strip bars, knocking around his girlfriend or making any plays of game changing significance.

Actually, people can't fly with just their arms.[QUOTE=George Cumby] ...every draft (Ted) would pick a solid, dependable, smart, athletically limited linebacker...the guy who isn't doing drugs, going to strip bars, knocking around his girlfriend or making any plays of game changing significance.

So you think Peyton Manning should fly to Cleveland now that he's a FA?Originally posted by mraynrand View PostOK, OK. I give up. Here's a better joke: I just flew in from Cleveland, and Boy! are my arms tired!

I haven't followed the drama here. I know Irsay was running his mouth a bit. Did he really piss off Manning?
Is there no chance Manning gets released, then re-signed by the Colts later in the day for a reasonable amount, a la Hawk?--
Imagine for a moment a world without hypothetical situations...

It's done. No going back now.Originally posted by Guiness View PostI haven't followed the drama here. I know Irsay was running his mouth a bit. Did he really piss off Manning?

The reality now is that a healthy Manning can go to a better team than the Colts and have a shot at a Super Bowl this year. He wouldn't have that in Indy. He wants to play football and he'll get paid more to play on a better team. Irsay and Manning had plenty of time to work something out between themselves and didn't.
Whatever team signs him, just watch, their season ticket packages will be sold out in a week.

So....where do we think he ends up?"I would love to have a guy that always gets the key hit, a pitcher that always makes his best pitch and a manager that can always make the right decision.
