    • Good Mornin'... packrulz, packerrats, rdanomly and StPaulPackFan.

So ... the consensus pick at #59 in the Second Round is DE Bruce Irvin, West Virginia.

Every draft pick is a risk, but it's those who are overrated that are even a bigger risk. An organization is investing its future with every selection and one wrong choice can be extremely detrimental...

"Every draft pick is a risk, but it's those who are overrated that are even a bigger risk. An organization is investing its future with every selection and one wrong choice can be extremely detrimental."

      Bruce Irvin: OLB, West Virginia

Bruce Irvin is a true pass-rusher but can he be groomed to produce as an every down defensive player of note? He's a hybrid defensive end/linebacker that needs to develop run stoppin skills and defend against the pass.

Provided he gets selected into the right 3-4 system, Irvin has potential to become a complete player.

At Packerrats we are in debate whether upgrading speed and athleticism in the front seven is a certain priority. We're in debate over the inconsistent and every down play of AJ Hawk. We're concerned with the lack of talent, forget depth of our starting front seven. Isn't this the reason that other teams can double team Clay Matthews and why we are seeing BJ Raji get worn down? It's my certain position that we need an infusion of solid talent for our starting front seven on 'D'.

Improving the pass rush is a focus that Ted Thompson must have now and must address in the draft. Adding DE Anthony Hargrove doesn't cut it certainly more than short term.

Brice Irvin grew up in Atlanta, dropped out of high school in 11th grade and later returned to academics and got his GED.

Irvin has generated negative attention wirth a recent run in with the law after allegedly breaking a sign at a Jimmy Johns sandwich shop which IMO shouldn't scare any team away because he has upside and is an intriguing prospect at maybe the third or fourth round. He has measurements at 6'3" and 33 3/8" arms and his combine numbers are strong. He'll be faster than 4.43 40-yard dash when at a lighter weight. He has potential at the NFL level to produce the sack and penetrate the line for tackles with loss.

The oft-cited Greg Cosell offered "Irvin a quick accelerator. Exploded off edge. Excellent closing speed. Reminded me of Colts Mathis at times.

Bruce Irvin has the movement to play 3-4 OLB and be used as an edge rusher on the punt return team. He's a pure athlete that needs a solid system to groom him. When Irvin can keep himself free and not get overpowered he's dangerous. He needs polish in pass protection but he's got a strong motor capable of forcing fumbles. He has 'only' shown that he 'flashs' against the run.

He's active in passing lanes, capable of forcing fumbles and chases downfield with a strong motor. His instincts and recognition have been described as 'hot and cold' maybe because he's aggressive and his pass-rushing nature puts him out of position.

Is he a defensive end or linebacker, a situational/sub-package rusher or capable of contributing on all downs?

It seems based on his most productive moments in college; Bruce Irvin is a player that you use for a half dozen snaps and substitute for, to keep him fresh and from injury. The adjustment from College to the NFL is huge.

Again Bruce Irvin is certainly 'RAW' as a pass rusher but an impressive athlete. He's raw because he needs coaching and in terms of that he's been neglected. This fella is an athlete with a real upside. not like so many on our roster that 'you can coach till the cows come in day after day' and not have any real hope that, that fella will shine in games with any consistency.

We need to see an influx of talented athletic 'football players' on our roster. Not wanna be cast off's. We need to see some change in Ted thompson. Sorry Packerrats but we need to see that 'in reality'. We needf a dynamic response from Ted thompson in terms of drafting talented and athletic prospects and filling with young non-drafted FA's that are raw for certain reasons but are athletic.

Ted thompson has to cut a load of deadwood.

Given Bruce Irvin's solid athleticism and measurables he's someone that TT should look for in the draft. IMO to draft Bruce Irvin in Round two is a no-no. He should be considered as a Round 3-4 pick. If a team projects him as more than just an impact reserve or even a starter, he has a better chance of being taken within the first three rounds.

He's turned his life around after a rough past. Should the recent trouble be ignored? Ted Thompson looks after that decision. Irvin is a guy that could become a pretty dynamic player. He's already shown what he can do with minimal coaching; what happens when he gets coached up?

If you havn't watched Bruce Irvin on video maybe you should.

I don't think he'll be drafted. We need a big strong bodied DT to spell off BJ Raji. We need a really athletic and talented all motor get to the QB and support the run defense OLB.

We need a smart Safety that can QB our 3-4 defense. That might now be Charles Woodson; as losing Nick Collins really took the pins out of our 3-4 defense IMO last season. We need a smart and observant athletic guy back there at safety that can support our middle LBers on run 'D' and drop back into space if the opposing QB is suddenly forced out of the pocket to pass.

So what's the next priority? I believe we need to strengthen at CB. That's especialy the case if C. Woodson is moved to take Nick Collins spot.

We need a solid backup QB too but TT has to somehow pray very well or get in a vet to take that spot. TT may elect to get that QB to groom in this draft; but I feel he has way too many other priorities to focus on.

With the cost of WR's being groomed and the 'pay me or see yaa' option and giving our strength surrounds Aaron Rodgers. TT likely has to draft at WR also.

              GO TED THOMPSON.

                    'criticism and scorn'

Holy Mackeral Andy...I'm totally against that except to keep criticism constructive and with a primary attitude of proper edicate.

I look at alot of the material on Packerrats as 'an NFL education' tool.

I use it all to enlighten, expand and grow as an NFL fan. To be the very best I can be in this hobby of mine. I'm by nature and experience a teacher and enjoy assisting others for 'the better good' as I hope it will be as we sift through the chaff 'of anything'. I simply try 'my best' to contribute positives with a style that will be my own.

My positions are for the most part constantly shifting like the sand on a beach moving like the hour glass of time.....

I'm all about ... Peace and Harmony and Good Will and LOVE for my fellow man/woman. Heaven's ...... I'm a Canadian.

The Packers are NOT my hobby. I'm 'just' a LOYAL Green Bay Packer fan. So in that case most of us here share that common bond. I'm here to contribute 'good stuff'. Not to ever harm a soul.

This is a community of sorts. Depending on views of this or that we will often find in a community two polor opposite sides.

My side is clear. I'm 'all about achieving HARMONY and PEACE at no fault or expense to any member here. Having written that:

I'm flat out 'against any member of Packerrats' posting FLAMES ! Posts that inspire needs for a defense. If I get flamed..I will take 'flight or fight'.If I'm pushed hard enough that irish in me defeats all self restraint and I'll take the mugger on.I'll defeat 'the mugger'.

Thank the Good Lord we don't have any to many here like that sort. most posters here at least try to act maturely. In any case this position is correct. This position cannot be challenged by anyone worth his salt.

If a poster feels the need to FLAME then keep it off the forum. The general population here doesn't need the CRAP.

The poster that must for whatever reason ...FLAME...needs special condiseration here as they will NOT simply go away. In a normal life setting 'the Village idiot' is easy to ignore or placate. Maybe an apple would do?

Some members imagine their funny. other members actually admire that poster as their not his victim. Do those posters imagine for a moment what to be 'that victim' might feel like?

Ohh then you'll get the member that just can't be bothered with it all after they help create the monster. He ccannot now muster up the common sense it takes to stop the monster. meanwhile good contributing and those trying to learn to contribute and willing to do so are labeled and condemned by the horde. how many good posters that loved Packerrats and regularly came here as Packer and NFL fans had to decide... 'screw this place'....these clowns arn't worth my time'.

I checked last night. For every poster here there were six non members trying to gleen something valuable to them from Packerrats.

There is one style of poster that has to be stopped:

That poster clearly takes 'cheap' shots'. Uses ridicule and desperate attempts at humor at the expense of others as a primary motivation and need to do what?

Stink up the joint !?? to cart a roll of asswipe around. Poor soul.

Football and the NFL is my hobby. Being a Packer fan is 'just a part' of my total experience and enjoyment in my LIFE.

As long as I'm a member here I'll campaign against indecency. I'll campaign against bullying. Do NOT confuse that with what may transpire in the course of debate. (-: If you enter debate often one party will get chewed up if that losing party doesn't have the common sense to 'just' give up 'the nickle'.

Victory doesn't pardon false pride or stubborness. (-: Victory assumes one party is defeated. Often some people just don't get to the TRUTH. That makes 'a life a tad more interesting' ... challenging.

Lurker64. I'm a packerrat that 'only' desires 'the BEST' for this forum.

That's 'my bottom line'. No..... my second. My bottom line !

                    GO PACK GO !

Damn, I had always thought that it was Nurse Ratchet. I've been living a lie.

Turns out it's Nurse Ratched. Maybe we've both been living the lie.
