"The Dolphins were not inclined to pay Flynn nearly $9 million per season, as Seattle did. The Dolphins wanted Flynn but did not believe he was that much better than Matt Moore to justify a contract in Seattle’s range, said one source who spoke to Miami’s front office."

I could see it both ways. One team thinks he's worth $9 million and one doesn't. It's hard to gauge a player's value when he doesn't play.

What would be interesting to know is how strongly Philbin agreed or disagreed with A-Rod's "Top 15" quip. Those two are in a better position to evaluate Flynn's talent than almost anyone else.

From what I understand, Flynn is only guaranteed about 3 a year, with another 6 in incentives. I'm also under the impression that Flynn will be in open competition with Tavaris Jackson and that as of right now, T jack is still the starting qb.
          - Once again, adding absolutely nothing to the conversation.

I think its more like $6+ mil per year and $10 mil guaranteed. Since its a three year deal, he possibly could be cut in the last year, but even then the deal can't be less than $5 mil per.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

Well then the starting job should be Flynn's to lose, T Joke sucks.

Last year, when the Seahawks signed Tarvaris Jackson, he was installed as the starter over Charlie Whitehurst even before Jackson could practice with the team, due to the finalization of the labor deal.

Still, one has to wonder if money was the only reason that kept Flynn out of Miami. Did he have other reasons that made him wary?

There is some speculation that there are concerns over the Miami Dolphins GM. I read a report on this possible issue in Miami this morning based in why players are avoiding signing in Miami.

I treat this as a rumor.

Do you mean the Pitt LB who congratulated Flynn for not signing with them?

It seems like most wnat to stay away from Miami, but with what appears to be a good D and a Decent Oline I am suprised they are treated like they have Leprosy. Is the GM that big of a jerk to warrent that, or are they just cheap with FA's so no one will sign there?

Ireland and Pioli seem to be two GM's players don't like to deal with.

Seahawks gave Flynn $6 million to sign

By Bob McGinn of the Journal Sentinel

** Matt Flynn's new contract is worth just about 15 times more than his old one with the Green Bay Packers.
** His three-year, $19.5 million deal with Seattle averages $6.5M.

** The four-year contract that he signed with the Packers as a seventh-round draft choice in 2008 averaged $442,294.

** He received a $6M signing bonus and base salaries of $2M this season, $5.25M in 2013 and $6.25M in 2014.

** His base salary is guaranteed this season, and $2 million of his base salary in '13 is guaranteed.

** The total guaranteed money is $10M.
                              ** Since 2006 3 X Pro Pickem' Champion; 4 X Runner-Up and 3 X 3rd place.

Did we let Flynn get away without any compensation for him?

"Where have you been, Rick? ...

We’ve detailed the circumstances surrounding Matt Flynn’s departure for the past several months.

It was impossible for the Packers to secure immediate compensation for Flynn without taking a huge risk by putting the franchise tag on him, and after seeing how long it took for him to sign with a team and the contract he got from the Seahawks, I’m absolutely convinced the Packers did the right thing by not franchising him.

The risk far outweighed the gain; obviously, the Packers knew that. I missed the boat on Flynn.

I thought he would be a break-the-bank signing, but he barely got Rob Johnson money 14 years after Johnson was traded for a one and a four, and Johnson only had one game behind him." Vic Ketchman

Aaron Rodgers vs. Matt Flynn this year might be one of the games to watch. What do you think?

"It’ll be a very high-profile game for Packers fans.

Whether or not it’s a game of national interest will depend on where it fits on the schedule and how Matt Flynn is performing when the two teams meet." Vic Ketchman

                                and ...

                                James from Waterloo, Ontario
Now that Seattle signed Flynn … did we by any chance put a first-round tender on him like the Steelers did with Mike Wallace?

"Again, Matt Flynn was an unrestricted free agent, Wallace is a restricted free agent.

You can’t tender a UFA as you can an RFA; all you can do is tag them.

About the only way the Packers could’ve gotten maximum compensation out of Flynn was by trading him prior to last season’s trade deadline, but would that compensation have been worth the risk of not having a backup ready to play on a defending Super Bowl champion?

Based on what happened in free agency, I have to believe the Packers wouldn’t have gotten better than a second-round pick.

Considering all that’s happened, I think the Packers played their cards perfectly; they got maximum performance protection from Flynn and they will likely receive a significant compensatory pick for having lost him in free agency." Vic Ketchman
