Scott Wells talks about why he's with the Rams

    Here's some highlights:
    * He grew up in TN and was a big Jeff Fisher fan (when he was a coach of the Titans), thus he went with the opportunity to play for him.
    * Closer to his home in TN.
    * Said it was a tough decision to leave GB, but chose STL due to Fisher.

So my analysis of this article is that Wells simply got an offer to play for a coach for whom he had a lot of respect for a long time and took it. He never once mentioned money being a big factor. Given Wells said it was hard to leave, I think that TT made a solid offer to keep him and it was just a long-time personal preference of the coach to play for that drove Wells to STL.
Great post. Good work. I hoped that soon Scott Wells would make some statement about becoming a RAM and here is further proof of this man's pure professionalism and intelligence.

I hope he does very well as a RAM.

I hope and trust that TT can come up with a solution for a big hole now that Scott Wells is gone. TT has his work cut out for himself replacing Scott Wells.

Yank it any way you want Packer fans. We lost a highly respected, mentoring, leader off our OL. OUR top ranked OLman. A Pro Bowler last season and who's to say his stock wasn't rising. This player had grit.

    That's 'a bunch' to replace for $3.5 - 4.5 Million$ per season or less.

That seems a little odd - he never played for Fisher before? So he watched the guy's teams on TV (or maybe in person) and decided he wanted to play for him? Don't understand that!

He didn't mention money, but you have to think that had something to do with it. This is his big contract, he's only going to get one of them. We'll never know if the Pack offered him something approaching that, it seem pretty expensive...although if Clifton is gone, our tackles, usually where the money is spent on an o-line, are pretty cheap. Bulaga's contract isn't bad, and Newhouse/Sherrod at LT aren't really getting starting LT money either. Minus Clifton, we've got a pretty cheap OL, don't we?

        Right now..my concern.

Do we have an intact decent starting OL? Left to right ...how solid are we at OL?

While I can appreciate the sentiment here (and it is all true on the surface), it is a bunch of athlete speech. It just wouldn't sound to pc had he said I went where the money took me! On the other hand, had GB offered 4 at 26, who here thinks he would be sounding off about how great Fish is? Of course he wouldn't, he would be touting TT, MM and another ring! Wells has his shit together and will be successful, but I firmly believe he is not a difference maker and I really don't think we are going to miss him all that much. This is a tough business and big splashes in FA have proven fools gold over and over again. You can't run a team and throw every great guy and extra million bucks above your ceiling with out paying for it 2 fold later on down the road. For every Reggie and Woodson, there are way more busts and cap anchors! Just ask the Redskins! Remember it is wise to get rid of a guy too early than keep him too long! This is a young mans game and Scotty is on the wrong side of 30.

When you have the success we've had over the last couple of years, it gets tougher to keep everybody. Other teams start over valuing your players.

            • That is very true. Plus it is hard for us not to over value them as well. That is what TT seems to do well. He doesn't seem to let emotions get in his way. This is what this position and player is worth and that is it. bidding wars usually end up bad for the winner.

Yup. The best way not to get into a bidding war is to 'stay right out of the market'.

For the most part that seems to be the Ted Thompson Free Agency Creedo.

                • The thing is TT doesn't completely stay away. If he did, we wouldn't have Woodson or Pickett. I really think TT has good command of what he is looking for and at what price. If that player shows up he will sign them. He just isn't going to overpay for that final piece like so many other gm's.

Don't the Packers have everyone back, EXCEPT Wells?
Shouldn't Sitton at least start the season healthier than last year?
Shouldn't Newhouse start the season with more experience than last year when he came in unexpectedly?
Shouldn't we expect Newhouse to improve with a full off-season of work?
Won't Lang have a solid year of experience at LG, which he did not have to start 2011?
Shouldn't we expect Bulaga to start healthy and further improve in his 3rd season, especially with an off-season of work?
Should Sherrod improve, when healthy, in his second season?

It seems to me that although Wells is gone and there is uncertainty at center, there are reasons to expect improvements at the other four positions over what we had in 2011.

None of Newhouse, Lang or Bulaga has yet gone through a full NFL off season of work. Newhouse and Bulaga had none last year following their rookie years. Lang missed last season, obviously, but also missed off-season work after his rookie season due to wrist surgery.

                    • I'm really starting to believe Clifton will be back for one last go round. The guy is a borderline hof lt in my opinion and I think GB is going to try and squeeze one more season out of him. Hoping Sherrod will be ready to go the following season.....that is a big hope. With his injury he will have missed 2 complete offseasons and that doesn't bode well for the youngster.

I see and understand your viewpoint. I believe your saying this:

Essentially, everyone will be get off season workouts and a full TC. The OL will grow and be better set this season over last; given the strike delayed start.

Woodbuck, are you off your Alzeheimer's meds? Is the protein buildup blocking rational thought?

Not all questions are simply questions. Yours and mine are insults with a question mark at the end. There is no compassion in either exchange and you are dissembling to pretend there is.

If you truly desired reasonable and honorable debate, you would not use such a tactic. But everyone can lose their head when heated.

If you truly desired the TRUTH, you would admit those two questions were insulting.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

I dunno. Yours seem pretty legit in retrospect.

Snake's Twitter comments would be LEGENDARY.........if I was ugly or gave a shit about Twitter.
