An LCL injury wouldn't require surgery unless it was a complete rupture, which would be unlikely without being accompanied by injuries to other knee ligaments that would carry an immediate "out of the season" designation.

Generally LCL injuries will heal on their own with standard RICE treatment and PT. The wrist, on the other hand, is complicated and delicate. There are a lot of wrist injuries that can only be healed surgically and require a considerable recovery time.

I think you are all missing the most likely explanation. Perry injured the wrist and decided to play through the pain. Perry injured his knee. Packers decided Perry would have to sit out a few weeks, and they did not want to reserve a roster spot for Perry when they needed a spot for Quarless. So Perry went ahead and had the surgery knowing full well he was headed to the IR anyway.

I don't understand why people are jumping on the training staff. This is a violent sport, people tend to get injured. Stretching your hamstring is no way to guarantee that it won't pull, there's no way to guarantee that it wont pull. You can't do more push ups and expect your shoulder not to get knocked out of its socket. There's nothing you can do to prevent injury in the NFL. It's all blind stupid dumb luck. We want to place blame at someone's feet, but it isn't anyone's fault. Training staff can't make you heal faster or make you resist injury better. What they do is make you stronger or faster. They mold your body to best fit your position. If you want to replace the training staff, first look at how explosive our guys are off the line, whether or not they're getting manhandled, outrun, pushed around or dominated. Don't look to see if C-Wood's collar bone broke.
              - Once again, adding absolutely nothing to the conversation.

For me my frustration is if Jennings' injury had been correctly identified maybe he would have had the surgery earlier and would be back by now.

A hernia, except is specific cases, is not life threatening and you can go about your usual daily activities. I used to play golf with one, though in a different area than Jennings. Far from being undiagnosed, I am almost sure that Jennings tried to play through the discomfort before finding out it wasn't going to work. I wonder if they tried a truss

The only oddity is choosing a specialist for the surgery. But given that McKenzie, the team Doctor, is probably an orthopedist, having abdominal surgery with a different specialist is not too surprising.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

Before you tar and feather the staff:

A sports hernia is probably the least understood of all the injuries that involve professional level and collegiate level athletes. ....This means making a definitive sports hernia diagnosis is difficult.
The diagnosis of a sports hernia is determined based on the combination of the patient's history, physical examination, and diagnostic tests. Recently, the use of MRI tests has become more common in looking for signs of a sports hernia. Previously, the MRI was primarily used to look for other causes of groin pain, but recent research has found some characteristic findings on an MRI in patients with a sports hernia.

.... the initial treatment of a sports hernia is always conservative in hopes that the symptoms will resolve. Resting from activity, anti-inflammatory medications, ice treatments, and physical therapy can all be tried in an effort to alleviate the patient's symptoms
                    .

                    and some Q&As:

Does everyone with sports hernia need sports hernia surgery?

No. The majority of athletes with sports hernia respond well to Physical Therapy. The duration of treatment may vary from athlete to athlete, but most return to full athletic activity without sports hernia surgery.

...and perhaps the reason that surgery is avoided if possible:

What are the effects of the superficial nerve – ilioinguinal nerve – being removed during sports hernia surgery?

The nerve is removed during sports hernia surgery to avoid the postoperative complication of inguinal neuralgia, a painful complication caused by scar tissue irritating the nerve. This can mimic the symptoms of sports hernia. The nerve supplies skin sensation to the inguinal region. This skin will be numb after sports hernia surgery, but with time this sensation fades. It will always be numb to the touch. More importantly, this has no effect on sexual function or enjoyment.

Falcons no longer unbeaten. Saints may make a playoff push yet.

And the Lions may be done. I feel terrible for Schwartz and only wish it could be Harbaugh flaming out as well.

Cowboys take the decision out of Reed's hands, Vick is out and Foles is in.

What's the line on Vick seeing the field as an Eagles starter again? Cause I'm taking the 'against'.

Is Schwartz's seat even warm though? I think he can ride that playoff appearance last year to about a 5-year contract extension, given that these are the Lions.

Am I the only one who thinks Foles looks awful? He only has 1 INT but he could/should have many more.
