  • I'm convinced Jones is going to be an excellent player for us. I think it will take him at least a year to really get his legs under him. It's hard for lineman to go in there against NFL lineman and dominate. But he has a lot of talent, and he's a solid person.

We're going to need Neal to be healthy this year, and get something out of Daniels. I just don't think you can expect DL to be all they can be in year one. He should see snaps though. We need impact on our line. Just giving guys a breather helps everyone out and I think he has enough talent to make his own difference right away too.

They talk about him and Clay playing off each other. I like the sound of that.

He's the same size as Justin Smith too. . . . . JJ Watt is only 7lbs heavier. The guy isn't small. I just don't see it.

      • Draft rankings by position. I have no idea who this guy is, but I dont want to lose the link.

Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

I was making a mad dash with my Mock to finally get that done and here. I worked on it so hard I got to the point where I just wanted to give up anything football. I was finishing it off just a minute before TT got his pick announced. My analysis said it might be 34 DE Datone Jones but he might have gone bigger. The funny thing about that pick is we wanted a solid DE for so long and now that we have the 3-4 'D' it seems to me that a man the size of Datone Jones isn't going to carry the mustard.

Outside of some unusual play and BPA (the TT way) it was a logical move going 3-4 DE as that was our greatest need in analysis. With that then the logical pick was to hope that Datone Jones would be available. He was and I really thought that TT would do as he did.

Do we need to be a 3-4 Front?

          • Ted Likes him and Dom Capers envisions him working well next to Clay. Good enough for me. Plus, he was the only guy beating this years #1 pick at the senior bowl. He's talented and effective.

            • Good reminder JH. Ted loves to see them do well in the Senior Bowl.

                • One more note on my surprise of the Vikes trading back in the get Patterson. Why give up so much to get a guy like Patterson when you could go after someone more underrated, but same body type, physicality like Da'Rick Rogers? That doesn't solve the MLB issue, then if you keep the picks you gave up to get Patterson, you look for value. Patterson is kind of a classic boom/bust guy. I'm hoping for bust of course.

I actually don't think he'll be that bad... he'll be better than CJ Wilson, but that's not saying much.

I think it means we'll be seeing a lot of 2-man fronts with Raji and Jones - in other words, same thing we saw last year, but with a new guy.

Capers will be fired after the season though, so the new DC will have to try to assemble the pieces into something coherent.

TT really has made a mess of the defense.

It's so hard to predict. Do you like Casey Hayward and Nick Perry or do you like AJ Hawk and Datone Jones? Perry is a big fucking question mark for me. I wouldn't be shocked if the personnel leaned either way.

I like this guy a whole hell of a lot fucking more than I liked the Nick Perry pick last year. But I like Hayward more than I like Hawk. Shit, throw Hayward at SS and make it a Perry for Jones even swap.

                          • Datone Jones/BJ Raji/Mike Neal
                            Clay/Hawk/Bishop/B Jones
                            Williams/Burnett/Hayward/Shields

My hunch is this is our best 11 guys. I'm with Wist a little here though. It's a bit of a mess right now. Not having a 2nd safety is a big problem.

                            • Let's face it, our defense is a cluster fuck of question marks.

                              Perry?
                              Worthy?
                              Datone Jones?
                              a 2nd safety?

We have a talented new DE who looks more ready to be on a 3-man line than he is ready to be one of only 2 guys on a 2-man line. We have no clue how these pieces are going to fit together. We might not know until sometime into next season. I have a hard time, a really hard time, envisioning this guy playing next to Raji on a 2-man line with 5 friggin DB's on the field. That is asking to get beat down, IMO.

I guess if you're playing Perry at OLB, you have a little extra size with a guy whos more like a DE than he is an OLB. I just hate having an OLB on the field who can't cover and all Perry has shown is that he can't cover.

                              • If it's me, I kind of lean toward Wist's point of view in that it's better to have three big guys up front with speed behind them (similar to SF.) I wonder if Hayward could play SS. If he could do that, I'd feel better.

I feel bad for Capers, just because he has a lot of guys on the mend and no real go-to unit to speak of.
