Somewhere Harlan's ears just pricked up at the sound of a distant dog whistle.[QUOTE=George Cumby] ...every draft (Ted) would pick a solid, dependable, smart, athletically limited linebacker...the guy who isn't doing drugs, going to strip bars, knocking around his girlfriend or making any plays of game changing significance.

Weird news. Texas A&M did not run a read option until the end of their season, and then not prominently until their Bowl Game. And they faced no option SEC teams except Ole Miss and Mizzou who did run Read O. However, that gives their D coaches about as much experience as the Packers D coaches if that is the extent of it. Sumlin apparently ran Air Raid for his passing offense and Manziel complemented that by running on scrambles like a man possessed. Smart Football said Read Option not a part of their repertoire until end of season and Bowl Game.
This article, http://t.co/AJATccuDtR, makes the case that the Aggies had installed and practiced it for some time and that it simply did not make its presence known until later in the season. We'll see.
I hope McCarthy has other sources. Apparently he and Sumlin are buddies through the Slocum family connection, but sending your D staff down there seems a bit of a stretch. He has two people in the state who saw more pistol and possibly more read option in Andersen and Aranda now at UW-Madison and needed to defend against it.Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

Interesting. I posted last month about Aranda having good success defending the pistol and option while coaching at the University of Hawaii and facing CK at least 3 times.
What is it with A&M, Mike Sherman, etc.

Sherman got there first and had some Slocum love. Not sure how Shawn Slocum came to haunt our ST nightmares but M3 clearly thinks the world of him. And M3 met Sumlin though the Slocum family and they are now friendly.
And don't M3's daughter and I am guessing ex-wife/baby mama live in Texas?
Maybe M3's baby mama is a Slocum and Shawn was a payback hire?
If that last bit is true then Fritz and I should have followed through and kidnapped Shawn. We would have been gainfully employed by A&M by now plus M3 would owe us a favor and we could get a kicking consultant hired for Crosby.Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. This is what I was thinking...Originally posted by Patler View PostI don't understand your criticism about the poll and our members comments.
Those who see it as a fad that will fade frequently opined that NFL DCs will learn how to defend it, the QBs will take a beating and come up frequently injured (like Vick, but maybe even more so) and there won't be enough multi-talented QBs to be real threats throwing, running and throwing on the run to make it prevalent.
Isn't MM sending coaches to learn how to defense it just part of the scenario that could lead to its fade from relevance?

My valuable prediction is that it will eventually be used sparingly in the regular season (like Patler said, maybe some teams with a QB who dominates with it will do it more)
I think the bigger trend is going to be for QB's to get faster over time and scramble a lot more in the playoffs when teams and players are willing to take more risks.Formerly known as JustinHarrell.
