I think the bigger trend is going to be for QB's to get faster over time and scramble a lot more in the playoffs when teams and players are willing to take more risks.
What does sparingly mean? Is it enough to determine winning vs. losing?

I think McGinn and his ilk now take a view similar to that of Jackie Treehorn in his lament of the direction of the porn industry:

"It's video, Dude. Now that we're competing with those amateurs, we can't afford to invest in little extras like story, production value, feelings. "

I was addressing your bolded statement from the OP with an analogy I found humorous.

So much for breaking the stereotype that gay guys are overly emotional and easily riled into sassy fits of verbal sausage lancing.

                          spar·ing (spârng)
                          adj.
                          1. Given to or marked by prudence and restraint in the use of material resources.
                          2. Deficient or limited in quantity, fullness, or extent.
                          3. Forbearing; lenient.
                          sparing·ly adv.
                          sparing·ness n.
                          Synonyms: sparing, frugal, thrifty, economical
These adjectives mean exercising or reflecting care in the use of resources, such as money. Sparing stresses restraint, as in expenditure: a quiet librarian who was sparing of words.
Frugal implies self-denial and abstention from luxury: a frugal diet; a frugal monk.
Thrifty suggests industry, care, and diligence in conserving means: grew up during the Depression and learned to be thrifty.
Economical emphasizes prudence, skillful management, and the avoidance of waste: an economical shopper; an economical use of energy.
                          - Once again, adding absolutely nothing to the conversation.

I guess John Dorsey is a moron..

Dorsey is among those in the NFL who think the zone read will have a short shelf life as an offensive staple as teams do like the Packers and study it more thoroughly. Among other things, they’ll make the punishment on the quarterback prohibitive.

“If you give defensive coordinators in this league a whole offseason, they’re going to stop them,” Dorsey said. “They’re going to hit the quarterback to where he’s not going to be able to run. These coordinators are too smart not to find something to slow this thing down.”

Sounds pretty similar to what posters here were saying in the topic you mentioned.
