I'd point out which one is UpNorthFan, but that might leave me as the odd one out

As is often the case, the UDFA's look like camp bodies. Until one of them starts playing lights-out, at which point we inevitable suggest that that player should start and contribute heavily for the team this year.

I think the only time that actually panned out was with Sam Shields.

But history shows that a couple of them will actually make the team.

IMO Patrick Lewis is going to make it.....does not seem to be much upside with many of these.
Sam Shields was an ez pick for us all to nail early due to his speed and upside.
TERD Buckley over Troy Vincent, Robert Ferguson over Chris Chambers, Kevn King instead of TJ Watt, and now, RICH GANNON, over JIMMY JIMMY JIMMY LEONARD. Thank you FLOWER

Lane Taylor, offensive line, Oklahoma St.
Taylor is 6-3, 324 with shorter arms and giant hands. He didn't allow a single sack in 2012 in over 850 snaps of action at right guard. He appears to be very limited as an athlete. Some have projected him to center.

                Ben Ericksen, safety, Illinois St.
Ericksen is 6-1, 195 with nice athleticism. He ran a 4.42 at his pro-day with solid numbers all around. He was pretty productive too with 7 ints last year. He's also a Greenville, WI native.

                Matt Brown, quarterback, Illinois St.
Brown is 6-3, 229 and was a four-year starter. He threw for 3,370 and 27 touchdowns which was good enough for offensive player of the year for whatever conference Illinois State plays in. He also rush for seven TDs . His career numbers include 10,591 yards and 87 TDs. Pretty athletic.

Gilbert Pena, defensive tackle, Ole Miss
Pena is 6-3, 330. He's 26 years old already because he took time off of football to take care of his mom with cancer.

Jake Stoneburner, tight end, Ohio State
Stoneburner is 6-4, 252 and ran a 4.53. Most people thought that would be enough to get drafted. He's got good hands and is versatile enough to do all the things TE's do in the NFL. 11 TD's over the last two seasons.

                Jeremy Vujnovich, tackle, Louisiana College
Vujnovich is 6-5, 290 and ran a 4.87 and had 35 reps of 225. Probably a guy you want to stash on your practice squad and get him bulked up and ready for the NFL.

                Patrick Lewis, center, Texas A&M
Lewis is 6-1, 311 and versatile. He was a 4 year starter at guard and a center. The Packers had him in for a predraft visit.

Andy Mulumba, outside linebacker, Eastern Michigan
Mulumba is 6-3, 260. He’s played both as a down lineman and standing up. He's Canadian but doesn't seem crazy. He's expected to be taken in the CFL draft. His workout numbers are good enough to succeed but I can't find proof that he ever got a sack in college so he's probably awful.

Myles White, wide receiver, Louisiana Tech
White is 6-1, 185. Very similar to our 7th round pick Charles Johnson in that he's bounced around to 3 different schools and ran a 4.42 and all this other workout numbers were just as good. Also got arrested for public urination and possession.

Angelo Pease, running back, Kansas State
Pease is 5-10, 211 and ran a 4.5. He wasn't particularly productive at Kansas State but did all kinds of shit at the Juco level before that. He was a runner, passer, returner, and safety.

                James Winchester, long snapper, Oklahoma
He has an awesome name and snaps the ball.

                Devin Willis, cornerback, Northern Arizona
Willis is 6-0, 178. He's from Miami, had 41 tackles and an interception last year. I just googled for like 10 minutes to find any hint as to why someone would want this guy on their NFL roster and then I found a youtube video of him doing the 3-cone drill at a northern arizona pro day in front of like 10 people. His time was 6.32 which is the fastest I've ever heard of.

Some of these guys have some interesting credentials. It will be fun to see how these translate into performance on an NFL practice field.

That has got to be the fun part of being a scout. While its desperately important at the top of the draft, scouts have got to be tired of Leaf/Manning, Smith/Rodgers, Bush/Williams debates by the time of the draft.

Finding players no one has heard of and have them show something at rookie camp has to make their jobs worth it.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

Here's a link to an interesting article on Mulamba:

It would thrill me to no end if the Packers signed a UDFA from a foreign country with very very little football experience whom they developed into a very proficient sack artist/OLB, while the Lions drafted 5 overall a guy from a foreign country with very little football experience who subsequently pooped the football bed.

Illinois State and Greendale native Ben Ericksen had agreed to sign with the Packers as an undrafted free agent, but it appears a medical issue resulted in the team not signing him.

A source familiar with the situation said Ericksen did not pass the physical but did not give specifics. A phone message left for Ericksen was not returned.
