Does Bakhtiari get unusually low in that pass blocking drill? It looks to me like a tall DE could get good leverage by pushing down on his shoulder pads.

What about his foot placement when he's in his stance? He seems to consistently go into his stance with his left foot quite far back, whereas Sitton who's next to him in this video goes into more of a straight crouch. Is it common for tackles to line up like this, maybe to give them better positioning against someone trying to go wide? I like these short video, I can let it loop through a few times, picking something to concentrate on. I don't know a whole lot about OL play, maybe this is normal and I've just never noticed before.

              • I know that Bryant McKinnie used to play LT for Minnesota and you could tell based on his left leg whether the playcall was run or pass. If it was a run play, he'd be in a straight crouch. If it was a passing play, he'd have the left leg off the line a bit.

In the Persian's case, I don't think it truly matters unless people are noticing things like that.

That stance makes sense for a smaller guy daring someone to try and go around him. He positions himself to make it tough to go inside, but inviting to go around....but the little guy is quick enough to ride him up the field as he tries to turn the corner.

At least that is how I did it.

PS...this should only be done in obvious passing downs when the DL has his ears pinned back.

                    • Jones, Hayward, Quarless "back" today. Practice is non-pads, so bevy of beat writers unsure of actual status.

                      Film at 11.

Yes, indeed. RT @GregABedard Belichick told Dimitroff that Jon Baldwin was just as good as Julio Jones in @MichaelSHolley's "War Room"

FOR EVERYONE WHO THINKS PATRIOTS WILL BE OK AT WR EARLY THIS YEAR, JUST REMEMBER THAT THE MAN SEEMS TO HAVE A BLIND SPOT AT THE POSITION

TE Mike Mulligan is not practicing. Hurt his arm against the Rams.

CB James Nixon, who dropped out of the Rams game, is not practicing.

I THINK THERE ARE JUST 15 SEATS IN THE TRAINING ROOM. MCCARTHY IS BEING CHARGED FOR THEM IN HIS BUDGET AND HE'LL BE DAMNED IF HE ISN'T GOING TO USE THEM

WR Randall Cobb (biceps) is not practicing.

Full list not practicing: Johnson, Cobb, Nixon, Richardson, T Williams, Tretter, Bulaga, Sherrod, Mulligan, Nelson, Jones, Worthy

LISTING BULAGA AT THIS POINT IS JUST WANTON CRUELTY

First team period, DuJuan Harris at RB with the starters.

Barclay continues to line up at RT with 1s.

I HAVE TO WONDER IF M3 DOING THINGS I AGREE WITH AT THIS POINT IS A GOOD IDEA (BARCLAY) OR NOT (HARRIS)

IN OTHER NEWS, HAYWARD NOT DOING TEAM DRILLS AND GREEN IS FOURTH RB BEHIND STARKS

                          Tyler Dunne ‏@TyDunne 10m
On defense, Jennings with the first-team D at safety, House/Shields outside at corner, Hyde working in the slot (nickel).

WOULD THIS BE THREE YEARS IN A ROW WITH A NEW SLOT CORNER? WOOD/HAYWARD/HYDE?

Newhouse getting reps at LT after Bakhtiari.

HE WILL BE A MIGHTY BACKUP

                          Tyler Dunne ‏@TyDunne 8m
Ryan Taylor is practicing again. Still with the first-team punt unit. ST still needs to be his ticket.

Kuhn personal protector on No. 1 punt cover, not Ross, in fact Ross not wing blocker like last week, looks like he's with twos

THE DREAM OF A BREAKAWAY RETURNER BEGINS TO FADE. IF ONLY ROSS WERE A TE OR LB, HE WOULD NOT NEED NORMAL SKILLS TO MAKE TEAM

                            • Harris will get a shot at #1 reps in practice for the time being because he closed out last year as the #1 and they probably don't want to push Lacy's hamstring too much yet. Lacy will be the starter on week 1 though.
