Ya, pretty surprised he wants this. I didn't think he missed the place.

So...funny question, I wonder how it works if the team isn't really interested in having a guy back? If Taco Wallace announced he was retiring a Packer?

Anyone know what happened in 1981 that caused Rich Wingo to kick an extra point?

Something must have went bad on a snap. Was listed as a pass from Ray Stachowicz (remember that crappy punter?) to Rich Wingo.

Very strange on both his and the Team's part.

Packers showing they can let bygones be bygones, eh? I wonder what that presages?

              Nice Bifröst reference. 2 points.

Maybe the team is doing this to show that bygones can be bygones, sort of paving the way for the Brent Favre return.

Otherwise, I don't quite understand it, unless it's just not a big deal to the team. Myself, I thought Longwell was a good but not great kicker, an excuse-making machine who took some shots on the way out the door. Not the kind of guy I would really want to retire as a Packer.

But maybe the team just doesn't care that much. Or maybe it's part of a bigger Favre strategy.

He is the team's all time leader in points. It makes some sense. No reason to hold a grudge against a record holder.

That's always a sticky point in any sport - what if a guy who has a big history for your team/school is an asshat? Are you honoring him for his accomplishments only, or for the kind of person he is? Or is it supposed to be both?

I can see some of this.

                      Create the precedence.

Bert won't be the first Ex-Packer that weaseled out to the Vikes and said rude shit at the door before leaving, then got an honor from the team anyhow.

Wow Jennings was right the Packers DO brainwash their players...Longwell=manchurian candidate?
Swede: My expertise in this area is extensive. The essential difference between a "battleship" and an "aircraft carrier" is that an aircraft carrier requires five direct hits to sink, but it takes only four direct hits to sink a battleship.

Maybe one of the reporters will ask what he thinks about the Queen of Diamonds.

More likely they'll ask if he's having dinner at Appleby's.

I guess he does have to choose between the Packers or Vikings. Its just funny with the way he left and where he left to. If you look at his stats he probably has a point about kicking in domes though.

While he was speaking with reporters today he said he LOVES Applebees'. Evidently he and his wife ate there almost every night and his poor attempt at a joke saying there were no other places he'd rather go to in town came out pretty bad. He also said he realized how special GB was once he was on the other sideline. I will say you could have knocked me over with a feather when I read about his desire to retire a Packer! He isn't the first player to leave and play elsewhere and then want to return and retire as a Packer.
