The quote from Glazer sheds light on the reason. The team that has him on their roster at the end of the year is pretty much guaranteed to get a 3rd round comp pick for him, so why would Minny trade him for a 3rd? They'll get that anyways, so as long as they don't have to shed salary (I haven't heard they need to) keep him around. A 3rd rounder from a team would be a fewpicks higher than the comp pick, but given that they'd be trading him to a playoff team, not more than 10 picks or so.

edit: well, they'd get the pick this year, and popular opinion is that a year moves a pick up by a round, so a 3rd this year is equivalent to a 2nd next. So ya, they should accept a third. Bird in the hand and all that crap.

in that case, why wouldn't a team in the middle of the playoff run send out a third for him, if it is true that they would get probably a third round comp pick in 2015.

i think thats a no brainer. get a high powered difference maker for the rest of this season and all you have to do is switch your 2014 third rounder for a 2015 third rounder?
