I'd keep Hyde on punt returns. He's good and has been sure-handed. He's not as dynamic on kickoff returns, so I'd think about putting Cobb back there on kickoff returns."There's a lot of interest in the draft. It's great. But quite frankly, most of the people that are commenting on it don't know anything about what they are talking about."--Ted Thompson

I just worry about Cobb getting hurt on KO returns. Hey, hopefully there are more PR than KR opportunities! Yeah. And they might want to keep Cobb fresh to help them move the chains. He, Lacy, and Starks should be a big part of helping the offense control TOP on Sunday.Originally posted by mraynrand View PostI just worry about Cobb getting hurt on KO returns. Why not just bench Cobb altogether? He could get hurt just running onto the field during the introduction.Originally posted by mraynrand View PostI just worry about Cobb getting hurt on KO returns.
Players play, to paraphrase Belichick. Hyde doesn't have that rare breakaway speed needed to be a good KO returner. Cobb does.
If Tom Brady was the Patriots best returner, Belichick would allow Brady to return kicks in a blink of an eye. Players play. Playing scared is for women and Dan Devine.

Kickoffs are thought to be the highest risk plays during the game. If you can reduce risk by having him avoid 3-5 plays a game, its a pretty reasonable precaution. Punt returners tend to take less abuse, though you can still get drilled if you are not careful.Originally posted by Rodgers12 View PostWhy not just bench Cobb altogether? Cobb doesn't have rare breakaway speed. He's more quick than fast. Cobb and Hyde had very similar numbers at their respective combines in the 40. Hyde's return numbers this year were very comparable to Cobb's in the past. Cobb may be the more electric player, but Hyde gets the job done just as well.Originally posted by Rodgers12 View PostWhy not just bench Cobb altogether? Srsly? There is no way in hell Belichick is gonna allow his HOF caliber QB return kicks.Originally posted by Rodgers12 View PostWhy not just bench Cobb altogether? He could get hurt just running onto the field during the introduction.

Cobb is not as fast as Percy Harvin but he's faster than Hyde. I don't care what the numbers say. As for breakaway, just gotta watch some of Cobbs long runs to see it. The long gain in the 2nd half vs the Lions at Lambeau is an example.Originally posted by Joemailman View PostCobb doesn't have rare breakaway speed. He's more quick than fast. I dunno about Hyde getting the job done as KO returner. Seems like he has only 1 good return, which would've been 6 with Cobb, and a whole lotta touchbacks and returns inside the 20. As Wallbanger stated in previously, Hyde is an OK a punt returner - not so much as a KO returner.

I think, on kickoffs, injuries hit non-returners more often than the returner himself. That's why the NFL moved the up the KO line, made blocking behind the back illegal and cut off wedge blocks, etc.Originally posted by pbmax View PostKickoffs are thought to be the highest risk plays during the game. This is worth the risk (check out the breakaway speed):
