He had open space in front of him but no blocking. Three 49ers were close enough to interfere if they saw him. It would have been close.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

That's the way I remember it. I said "Run!" but then a second later saw why he didn't.

I agree with your friend. I just watched the replay and Rogers may have made it to the goal line if he had been aggressive. Whether he would have scored, I don't know, but he would have made going for it on fourth down mighty tempting.

I think there was a penalty on that play and SF declined it because it was obvious that GB would kick the field goal. That's why Rodgers slid down instead of going all Lacy on that run.

If Rodgers had been more aggressive and got closer to the goal line, SF would probably have accepted the penalty, giving the Pack another kick at the can.

I believe Stubby got way too conservative in the situation (playing for the tying field goal). There was about 5 minutes left. If I were Stubby I would have not kicked the field goal but went for the TD. If I make it, SF has 5 minutes to score a TD as opposed to a field goal to win. If I didn't make it, the score is still 20 to 17 and SF has the ball on the five yard line and is very conservative. Consequently, GB has a better chance at a stop and getting the ball back.
One time Lombardi was disgusted with the team in practice and told them they were going to have to start with the basics. He held up a ball and said: "This is a football." McGee immediately called out, "Stop, coach, you're going too fast," and that gave everyone a laugh.

i thought i remembers 2 defenders between him and the goal line

a rod would have had to lower his busted shoulder and try and plow two guys over

and like has been mentioned, there was a flag on the play that was declined by SF. if he had scored a td it wouldn't have counted anyways

Most likely he would not have scored, but very likely he would have gained another two or three yards if he had not hesitated and been more aggressive. Does SF still decline the penalty with the ball on the two or three? Unlikely. If they do, Stubby has a decision to make. If they don't, GB has third down with the ball on the 19.

              • That series pisses me off still today.

1st down run with Cobb??? GTFO. Keep Lacy in and he's running it if anyone. Hell I'd have takena play action call there look for the Fb or TE in the flat. So most anything other than the bs he called there with Cobb.

Cobb as a RB outside the 20's? Hell yeah. Why not. Inside the 20? Fuck No. Put him in the slot

                  • People are acting like a running play that gained 1 yard cost the Packers the game. I didn't like the call, but Lacy probably had some 1 yard runs too. The Packers had 2 more shots at it, and Rodgers couldn't find anyone open.

                    • Red zone trouble again. Packers need to hire Bubba Franks.
