Former Packers still pursuing the dream

I wonder, maybe he did and it just didn't seem like it. He played 14 years and had 50 interceptions, 6 returned for TDs. He started 131 games, mostly in his first 9 years. Averaged 9.5 yards on 79 punt returns. Yet, he played for a bunch of teams. Odd career details, but overall very, very good.

He had his best years with Miami. He was a very undisciplined player with the Packers. I think maybe being traded for next to nothing made him realize he needed to get his act together. I think he was also better suited to nickel corner than playing outside. Buckley is one of only two players (the other being Ken Riley) with 50+ interceptions to never make a Pro Bowl.Originally posted by Patler View PostI wonder, maybe he did and it just didn't seem like it. Ya, some guys just need to mature, and getting dumped by the team that drafted you might do it.Originally posted by Joemailman View PostHe had his best years with Miami. A few more details I found:
64 pass deflections
10 forced fumbles
15 fumble recoveries
I think if a team knew that his career would be what it turned out to be, they would gladly draft him early.Last edited by Patler; 01-23-2025, 08:27 PM.

So that nobody really talks about it. It's not big news compared to the big game. It saves them a week of exclusive discussions about how that trade was a complete failure for them.Originally posted by Guiness View PostThe dream is in danger - Aaron Rodgers, Jets announced that they will release him.
I wonder if there's a reason to do it Super Bowl Sunday.2025 Ratpickers champion.

Still pissed they didn't trade him instead of Douglas. I like Preston but he was clearly on the wrong side of father time, while Douglas put in a couple stellar seasons that could have really helped us. Instead we waited til his value cratered and we got a 7th.Originally posted by KYPack View PostDefinitely not big news dept...
Pittsburgh released Preston Smith today.

From what I've read recently, Jaire Alexander will soon be eligible to be in this thread as a "former Packer."Originally posted by Joemailman View PostNo longer dreaming: Mason Crosby and Micah Hyde announce their retirement from NFL.
The article - was it Schniedman or Demovsky? - said the Packers were unhappy with Alexander's inabilty or unwillingness to play through injuries.
Well, how can a team be unhappy with a player because he's too injured to play through it? They're not pissed at Christian Watson. Or Jordan Morgan. So the logical assumption is that the team was angry because they thought Alexander was not so badly injured that he couldn't play - but he balked.
Sure looks like his time in Green Bay is over. Who will sign him, I wonder? Someone will. Then we'll get that old song-and-dance about how underappreciated the player was by his former team, that he feels better than he has in years, that he's going to be a team player, and so on and so on . . . until he gets hurt early in the next season. Again.
Who will be the sucker that will take him on and count on him?"The Devine era is actually worse than you remember if you go back and look at it."

I think this is what GMs mean when they talk about "guys who love football" - they will play with a club over a broken hand and on bad knees because they love the game, not because they get paid. Long season, you need guys who are wired right. Fairly sure teams knew this about Campbell and was why he played for 4 teams in 9 seasons -- and likely won't play ever again after this stunt. If he's set for life, good for him I guess. He'll be mentioned in punchlines for the next 20 years though.Originally posted by Teamcheez1 View PostDe’Vondre Campbell’s latest musings:

Every twelve-year-old kid in America should use Devondre Campbell as a role model when their parents ask the die to address the fact that they set the kitchen on fire: "“I ain’t addressing shit."Originally posted by run pMc View PostI think this is what GMs mean when they talk about "guys who love football" - they will play with a club over a broken hand and on bad knees because they love the game, not because they get paid.
