Mayock and Gruden both mentioned his tackling skills or lack there of - just what we need, not only am I little surprised with the pick, but we get a player that can't tackle. He'll fit right in!

Corner or safety: the point is coverage. he can cover.

        • 2. MALCOM BROWN | Texas 6023|319 lbs|3JR Brenham, Texas (Brenham HS) 6/21/1994 (age 20) #90

BACKGROUND: A five-star defensive tackle recruit out of high school, Brown spurned offers from USC, Oklahoma and a dozen others to stay in state and commit to Texas. He saw playing time as a true freshman back-up in 2012, recording 25 tackles and 2.0 tackles for loss. Brown moved into the starting line-up as a sophomore, starting every game in 2013 and finishing with 68 tackles, 12.0 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks. He had his best season in 2014 as a junior and became the first Longhorn defensive tackle in three decades to lead the team in tackles for loss (15.0) and sacks (6.5), earning Consensus All-American and First Team All-Big 12 honors. Brown elected to bypass his senior season for the 2015 NFL Draft.

STRENGTHS: Looks the part with well-proportioned body thickness throughout…moves well on his feet with range to make plays away from the line of scrimmage…active upper and lower halves, displaying a quick punch and lateral footwork…very good get-off movements and initiates the action – proactive
penetrator, not reactive…forceful upper body to club and bully bodies in his path…anchors well in the run game, taking on doubles and resetting the line…nose for the ball with natural awareness, not taking himself out of plays…nice job breaking down in space and in the backfield, controlling his momentum on the move…gets his paws up to knock down passes at the line (six pass break-ups as a starter)…hard-working mentality with strong reviews from his coaches…low-key individual with mature make-up – married in May 2014 to his wife (Faith) with two children, his four year old stepdaughter (Rayna) and six month old daughter (Mayah)…wellbalance lifestyle, managing both family obligations and school while still earning consensus All-American honors on the field in 2014…productive and reliable résumé with 29.0 tackles for loss over 26 career starts, including versatile experience in both odd and even fronts.

WEAKNESSES: Only average arm length for his frame…quick first step, but needs to improve his snap anticipation to consistently fire off the ball…doesn’t routinely generate power off the snap and needs to rely more on his initial punch to create movement…stack/shed technique needs developed and his secondary quickness off blocks tends to wane…needs to be a more reliable finisher in tight spaces…relies on natural gifts to slip blockers and needs to show more tenacity and thought into his bland pass rush arsenal – unimpressive secondary moves.

SUMMARY: A three-down defender who can handle a large snap load, Brown played mostly nose tackle as a freshman and sophomore, before lining up at the three- and five-technique spots as a junior – can legitimately play anywhere from the zero- to five-technique position in the NFL. He has a terrific blend of size, quickness and power to win in different ways and get better once certain areas of his technique are tweaked. Brown is a responsible and mature individual who is motivated to support his family and should have no problem balancing his personal and professional lives. He has the scheme diverse skill-set that fits all 32 teams at the next level, making him a high demand prospect with a lot to offer – top half of round one grade.

          • Kid has a better 40 time than Hyde or Hayward. Wouldn't that make him the defacto CB2 opposite Shields?

Tackling is going out of vogue in the NFL. gotta be able to cover without contact.

That said, TT doesn't do anyone any favors with how he drafts for defense... even if this guy proves to be a decent slot defender, like I said, who in their right fucking mind spends a 1st round draft pick on a nickel back??

In that sense, it's another wasted 1st round pick by Ted... he has more than his share of misses - it's not like he's bullet proof.

Let's call a spade a spade......whether it was luck, or skill, TT hit one of the greatest home runs off all time at24 with AROD and if he's healthy he's probably good for 9 wins a year by himself.

But 8 picks in 10 years.....dammit.....I can't even figure out who they all are......but it seems like we do WAY better drafting offense than we do defense............

Not from the scouting reports I've been reading. He's svelte and smallish, but fierce in his tackling with good hips.

The #Packers selected safety Damarious Randall from Arizona State. I’m told they view him as a cornerback.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

                            Damarious Randall measurables:
                            40-YD: 4.46
                            10-YD: 1.55
                            20-YD: 2.58
                            Bench: 14
                            Vertical: 38
                            Broad jump: 10’00”
                            3-Cone: 6.83

That 3 cone is nuts, isn't it?

                            • From NFL draft tracker on Randall:
While he has the speed and athletic traits to transition to cornerback, his cover skills and technique need quite a bit of work to be ready for the NFL level. Randall has a nose for the ball and a strong desire to make an aggressive tackle in space, so there could still be teams that give him a legitimate shot at safety, where he carries a higher draft grade.
One time Lombardi was disgusted with the team in practice and told them they were going to have to start with the basics. He held up a ball and said: "This is a football." McGee immediately called out, "Stop, coach, you're going too fast," and that gave everyone a laugh.
