James motherfucking Jones playing defense on Adams. Fucking brilliant.Originally posted by pbmax View Post
On the positive side, I thought DickRod played it real cool. When Rodgers let the ball go, DickRod just kind of turned around casually and sauntered toward the end zone, then turns around is all like "Watch me jump niggas! Rainbow coalition without the rape allegation!" Again, meanwhile James Jones is freaking the fuck out tackling our intended receiver. I also love that DickRod always has a smile on his face - running, catching, being tackled, winning games... he just don't stop smiling."You're all very smart, and I'm very dumb." - Partial

Crockett looked like a kid in Toys R Us with Bill Gate's Black Card. Lacy looked like a kid at a birthday party that can't eat cake because he is fat.Swede: My expertise in this area is extensive. The essential difference between a "battleship" and an "aircraft carrier" is that an aircraft carrier requires five direct hits to sink, but it takes only four direct hits to sink a battleship.

I think Jones did exactly what they want him to do at that point, keep people off the front receiver's back. He wiped out the whole pile behind Rogers, who was able to come down with hardly anyone contesting the catch. A few extended arms, but no bodies on him. If Jones didn't do what he did, the entire mass would have pushed forward toward the ball, probably ruining anyone's chance to catch it directly, leaving it up to Cobb to try and catch a deflection.
I said right away that the guy on the right (didn't catch that it was Jones right away) cleared out the interference so Rodgers could come down with it almost uncontested.

I agree that is how it happened, but everyone is also saying that Adams was supposed to catch the ball. Would have been hard with Jones all up in his business. Maybe I'm being too harsh. I suppose I haven't allowed for the possibility that Jones adjusted his role on the fly and lent his body to the success of the play, but I'm having a hard time convincing myself that he's that smart.Originally posted by Patler View PostI said right away that the guy on the right (didn't catch that it was Jones right away) cleared out the interference so Rodgers could come down with it almost uncontested."You're all very smart, and I'm very dumb." - Partial

To me Jake Ryan played like he did at Michigan - lots of tackles, but always four or five yards beyond the line of scrimmage. Kind of "meh" to me. But Palmer seems less strong.
I want to nominate Crockett for the Fuckdoggle. That guy found some narrow spaces and slithered through. Lacy and Starks kept running into the pile, though the offensive line didn't do shit for them.
In truth, the team looked listless, really awful, for most of the game. The two plays that I thought would mark the game (before the Hail Mary) were the third down drop by Adams, I think, after the Packers had pulled to within 6 at 20 - 14, and the defense's failure to stop the Lions on third-and-12 when there were about two-and-a-half minutes left.
When Adams dropped what would have been a huge third down conversion, you could almost see the air go out of the team on the sideline.
Rodgers wouldn't even talk to his teammates during the play stoppage at the end. It looked bad. I wonder if his kinder words about Adams (the importance ofhis earlier TD catch) and his teammates were designed to makeup a little for Rodgers's standoffishness and to pump up Adams, whose confidence is probably low.
I must say, this still looks like one fuckedup team. The offense went backward - not even a running game last night. And Masthay's punts you could see them - were not very high nor very far. He's a guy who could be fired.
I am unfortunately not heartened for the team's near future, unless this Hail Mary somehow galvanizes them."The Devine era is actually worse than you remember if you go back and look at it."

I had similar thoughts after his touchdown run. His ball spike and fist pumps were an individual celebration, and he appeared to almost brush off a few teammates' attempted acknowledgments.Originally posted by Fritz View PostRodgers wouldn't even talk to his teammates during the play stoppage at the end. Funny, that passed through my mind as he scored. I thought he looked as if he was thinking, "fuck you all, I'm going to have to do this by myself."
At the end of the game, he'd go to the sidelines and talk to, I think, Clements, while Tolzien stood there. The rest of the team was on the field together. This happened twice that I saw.
Thus I was surprised at his kind words after the game about the team, and its fight and heart and all that. I think he may well be trying to make up for his boorish behavior, and to maybe try a change of tactics with Davante Adams - pump him up instead of tearing him down.
But I suppose nobody has to like the guy. They just have to be willing to go to war with him, metaphorically."The Devine era is actually worse than you remember if you go back and look at it."

watching it all full speed, you can clearly see the facemask go down, and the helmet jerk quite a bit when the hand gets thereOriginally posted by pbmax View Post
when its slowed down, it looks like the hand just briefly grazed the facemask
but i think in reality, it was a pretty hard shot to the facemask

They were talking about the facemask call on the Dan Patrick show this morning. Per the exact wording of the rule that would be:Originally posted by pbmax View Post
GRASPING FACEMASK
Article 5 No player shall twist, turn, or pull the facemask of an opponent in any direction.
Penalty: For twisting, turning, or pulling the mask: Loss of 15 yards. A personal foul. The player may
be disqualified if the action is judged by the official(s) to be of a flagrant nature.
A.R. 12.12 Third-and-10 on A30. Runner A1 runs to the A33, where he is tackled by B1, who incidentally grasps A1’s
facemask on the tackle, but it is not a twist, turn, or pull.
Ruling: A’s ball, fourth-and-seven, on A33. No Foul.
That super slo-mo shows a definite twist. But Rodgers leads the league in frumpy expressions and negative body language on the sideline, which makes him, like Josh Allen, a unique double threat.

The thing about 'grazing' that we forget is that those rubberized gloves are incredibly grippy. Grazing is almost like gripping with them on. With bare hands, the hand would have just slid and AR's helmet would not have turned as much, and the refs might not have called it. As the NFLN commentators noted, the defender acted like he got caught, not like he got jobbed by the call.Originally posted by red View Postwatching it all full speed, you can clearly see the facemask go down, and the helmet jerk quite a bit when the hand gets there

Well, not sure he has the speed to be anymore than a third string guy, but what we've seen of him in preseason and last night is what I saw of him in college. He's a good all around RB. He can cut, reads holes, solid receiver, willing blocker, fights hard. His lack of speed is pretty evident though, so I'm guessing he doesn't turn into anything more than a Tony Fisher-type player. But for one night it was nice to see him provide a spark to the team.Originally posted by Carolina_Packer View PostHey Harvey, how about some John Crockett love? He looked like he had fresh legs, some wiggle and power. My 12 year old and I like to watch draft prospects before the draft and were excited that he got an opportunity with the Packers. I feel bad for Alonzo Harris, but he didn't really feel like a change of pace from Lacy or Starks; Crockett does have more elusiveness. I know it's a small sample size, but he seemed to see the cut back lanes and has good make you miss shake and well as power. He looked good and they needed his boost. Good for him! I hope he continues to get opportunities."There's a lot of interest in the draft. It's great.
