I still remember the time when Thompson led Wahle and Rivera to the guillotine and had them beheaded, figuratively of course. 4-12 was the consequence. Sure, Fisher started at RB and Chatman at WR. I think Taco Wallace played a bunch that season, as did fans favorite Sam Gado. But...OG was far and wide and up and down the weakest link on offense.
I ain't too happy with Sitton's release, but I think the Pack will be fine this time around. The beanstalking Spriggs will be the starting LG before season ends. Mark my words.
Patler explained all this to you over and over, but you are too crazy and/or lame to understand it.
Taco Wallace was on the roster for one game and caught exactly ZERO passes.
You'd think after all these years you would learn the game or grow up or something.
The Wahle-Rivera-Thompson arguments between Patler and I started long before this site existed at the old JSO forums.
Basically, Patler argued that it was impossible to resign both Wahle and Rivera b/c Pack were in the dreaded cap hell, thanks to Sherman. I provided the math showing that, by cooking the cap a bit, both Wahle and Rivera could've and should've been retained. My math was assured to be flawless by our resident math expert, Nutz.
As I recall, you (I think it was you, maybe someone else?) suggested a number of contract restuctures in a discussion with me, and I went through most and explained why it couldn't be done, including an article from JSO or somewhere that explained that the CBA prohibited another restructure of Favre's contract because it had been restructured shortly before and couldn't be again for another year or something. Others you suggested were in final years or had bonuses that would automatically accelerate into the current year under the CBA at the time. The Packers were hamstrung in all their large contracts except for Sharper, and he refused to restructure. When he refused, the Packers only hope was if Wahle or Rivera agreed to a very team friendly contract. There were said to have focused on Rivera as the one who might, but then Dallas blew them out of the water with a big contract and a big guarantee.
Actually, Sharper had been restructuring his contract in prior years and he was open to restructuring it again. Thompson asked Sharper to take a paycut. There's a big difference between restructuring a deal and taking a paycut.
In summary, Thompson didn't need to cut Sharper. He could've retained both Wahle and Rivera. All by cooking the cap. Yeah, cooking the cap sometimes leads to the dreaded cap hell in the near future, as the 49ers and Cowboys of the late 90's found out. But had Thompson cooked the cap back then, he would've been bailed out by the Networks. As Thompson eventually found out what any competent GM knew all along: New deal with Networks = Mammoth cap inflation.
Doesn't that scenario in the original post result in Fournette becoming the new Adrian Peterson in Minnesota?
You got the Giants and the Niners way up there? No Way. (I understand you are a purveyor of sarcasm, but seriously?)
The Panthers are still right there with the Packers; The Seahawks are still gonna win the West with the Cardinals second. The Cowboys would seem to have everything but a QB, but I see them as better with Prescott than they would have been with Romo. They should win the East easily.
Eagles 1st rounder next year now belongs to the Browns (Wentz trade). Eagles need to Vikes to finish dead last to draft #1 overall, naturally (no Hollywood trade ups), since they now own the Vikes' 2017 1st rounder (Bradford trade). I think Sonny Weaver Jr is the Eagles GM cos Weaver pulled out something like this in "Draft Day."
Prescott better than Romo at this point in their careers? Pass me what you're smoking. lol
Really? Man, I can't keep track of which site was when anymore!
I got news for you. It only gets worse as you get older. Take my word for it.
One time Lombardi was disgusted with the team in practice and told them they were going to have to start with the basics. He held up a ball and said: "This is a football." McGee immediately called out, "Stop, coach, you're going too fast," and that gave everyone a laugh. John Maxymuk, Packers By The Numbers

Disagree completely. One can only "cook the cap" with contracts available to revise having useful cap implications, and players/agents willing to go along with it. I proved why your plan was completely wrong 11 years ago, contract by contract for the players you suggested revising.
Fantasize about Mike Sherman the GM as much as you want to, it doesn't change the facts that he had run the roster and cap aground with ill-advised contracts and numerous trades of multiple draft picks to move up to draft a player who amounted to nothing.

S'up Kentucky...Growing up is for adults with kids.
Until I find a woman, preferably a woman of African ancestry, who would accept my seed and give me an offspring/future shutdown corner, no I need not grow up. I do not, however, wish to grow old alone like Ted.
When Teddy Bridgewater blew out his knee, Minnesota's chances to repeat as division champ dimmed.
For those of you wondering, yes, I am a scout, albeit a freelance scout. I once told Eliot Wolf to tell Thompson to draft the Claymaker. Thompson should've heeded my 2009 "Mastery Mockery of a Draft" and draft Brian Cushing along with the Claymaker.
Btw, I hold a Master's in Mock Draft from the Mel Kiper, Jr. School of College Football Scouting and Hair Design at the prestigious ESPNU.

I've liked mobile QBs going way back to Tarkenton. If Prescott has the accuracy he showed in the preseason, yeah, I see him as better than Romo - who in addition to being injury prone and a lot less mobile than a few years ago, seems to have lost some arm strength.
What could be more GOOD and NORMAL and AMERICAN than Packer Football?
