Given the makeup of their practice squad (two open spots) its looks like they really didn't want him or are waiting on someone to make a decision.

I think its the first, they could have signed him and then let him go with two spots open.

    • This is pretty incredible:

      https://packerswire.usatoday.com/201...to-start-2018/

Of the 53 players on the roster to end last season, 27 weren’t on the Packers’ first roster of 2018.

Over half the roster was turned over by new GM Brian Gutekunst.

Here’s the list of the 27 players no longer on the Packers’ roster, listed alphabetically:

      LB Vince Biegel (cut)
      LB Ahmad Brooks (not re-signed)
      CB Donatello Brown (cut)
      S Morgan Burnett (not re-signed)
      TE Emanuel Byrd (cut)
      QB Joe Callahan (cut)
      WR Michael Clark (retired)
      C Dillon Day (cut)
      DL Quinton Dial (not re-signed)
      G Jahri Evans (not re-signed)
      S Marwin Evans (cut)
      LS Brett Goode (not re-signed)
      CB Josh Hawkins (cut)
      QB Brett Hundley (traded)
      WR Jeff Janis (not re-signed)
      OT Ulrick John (cut)
      FB Joe Kerridge (cut)
      RB Devante Mays (cut)
      WR Jordy Nelson (cut)
      OLB Chris Odom (cut)
OL Adam Pankey (cut, practice squad)
      CB Lenzy Pipkins (traded)
      CB Damarious Randall (traded)
      FB Aaron Ripkowski (cut)
      TE Richard Rodgers (not re-signed)
      LB Joe Thomas (not re-signed)
      P Justin Vogel (cut)
Hopefully the adage "Change is good" proves to be true.

      • Packers waive Herb Waters.

        and...

        Rob Demovsky

        @RobDemovsky
The Packers have placed WR Jake Kumerow I'm injured reserve, a source said. He would be eligible to return in Week 8 if the Packers wanted to use one of their return moves on him. http://www.espn.com/espn/now?nowId=21-41030310-4

        8:02 AM - Sep 3, 2018

        • OK, so who are they dying to sign that they need 2 spots? Plus the 2 open on the PS?

And its an open question whether JK sees the field this year. You never know who is going to need to return from an injury.

          Maybe they DO sign Dez

          • Why do you keep 8 WR on your roster? Because they are waiting:

            Mark Daniels @MarkDanielsPJ
Here's the Patriots 52-man roster. They have an open spot now and will have another when Izzo is IRd

            Arif Hasan @ArifHasanNFL
Cordarrelle Patterson is one of three receivers. Also, one of those receivers is Phillip Dorsett

            • Rob Demovsky @RobDemovsky

The Packers are signing veteran LB Korey Toomer, a source confirmed. @RapSheet had it first this morning.

Toomer has played for the Chargers, Raiders, Rams, Cowboys.

So there's one more spot to fill on the Packers' 53 with Kumerow going to IR and Herb Waters getting released.

You can only play chicken so long. At some point before Sunday, we aren’t going to have 7 WRs and 4 TEs. The roster is way out of balance in my opinion.
But Rodgers leads the league in frumpy expressions and negative body language on the sideline, which makes him, like Josh Allen, a unique double threat.

They've also been down the 2 RBs active road before.

What the fuck's wrong with the punter? Jon Ryan is, finally, available again.

                    And yes to Dez.

                      • Packers have lost so many members of the All Name Team. Let's pause to remember one from Peter King now writing at Pro Football Talk because this is the darkest timeline.

                        4. I think the Name of the Weekend on the cut wire was Washington axing safety Fish Smithson. Fish suffered the same cruel fate as his brother, who was in Green Bay camp in 2011 but didn’t make the team. The brother: Shaky Smithson.
