Marty Schottenheimer got it twice - Browns in '88 and San Diego in 2006. Without checking, I'm pretty sure the '88 playoff loss resulted in a firing, not him resigning. PB?

I always want to win. I don't care too much whether they keep 'ol Stubbers or not, I just want them to beat the crap out of Bears, Vikings and everyone else they can and make the playoffs. Anything can happen. I don't care if they get a lower draft pick. Pick better and it won't matter.

First memory is they did not make the playoffs in '88. It was '85 (loss to Dolphins), '86 (lose to &$!$&#! the drive), '87 (Bynered!), '88 (miss playoffs), '89 (make it back lose to #$&#%&$! cheating Broncos again).

But before I check pro-football-reference, I think Modell wanted some assistant coaching changes. Either defense or ST. Marty refused so he was fired. Modell hired Steel Curtain architect and very old man Bud Carson, who probably deserved better.

Speaking of divas, at some point in this, Kosar wanted his old buddy from Miami to get the OC job and run Lindy Infante's pass to daylight option route offense. Not sure if this was during Schotty or he was lobbying for this after Carson got hired.

That old buddy was Woodbuck's very special friend, Marc Trestman.

Looked it up and I was wrong! Lost in '88 wild card game to Oilers.

Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

Option 4 - make the playoffs and still fire M3

John Fox "resigned" as well in Denver the year that they got beat by Indy at home.

                  This.

They can probably even do it with most of the existing dysfunction as long as 1 area out of ST gaffes, 3rd down offense, or offense inside the 35 gets improves for the next 5 games.

Getting the timing prediction of a supernova wrong is truly a blunder that will ruin your day.

We need impact players on both sides of the ball. If we make the playoffs and draft again later in every round will we really get better? Right now I don't care if we win or not because even if we do and make the playoffs we will be one and done AGAIN and I've had my fill of that crap. The hot teams like NO, the Rams, KC and even the freakin Bears and queens have improved their rosters by drafting higher than us. After all these years of drafting late and poorly has drained this roster and we now see the mediocrity on this team today.

Tony Dungy was also, perhaps unjustly, canned after a playoffs season. Of course, you and your ilk refuse to acknowledge Dungy b/c you and your ilk want to hold the black man down, and you and your ilk laugh as the gay man drowns.

Alas, Sherman’s GM head was unjustly cut off after a playoffs season, ending any chance Pack had of morphing into the Pats of the NFC.

Why? McCarthy is, what, 50? That ain’t too old for a coach. I can’t see McCarthy retiring “early” and becoming a tv futbol analyst, a la Mooch. McCarthy ain’t too smart to be any type of analyst.

Best case scenario, Pack win SB and then trade Dummy to the Browns for 2 firsts and an orangutan.

If Matt Millen can do it, MM can do it.

Yup. Rand may be wrong 99% of the time on things not related to football but this is dead on. I would only add to those of you wishing for MM's head: be careful what you wish for! Because while you never know what you're getting with the next coach there is a very good chance he will be worse than McCarthy and at least a decent chance that he will be Childress-level bad.

This kind of terror should not necessarily lead to inaction, but to extreme caution!
