  • It can always be worse:

    @ProFootballTalk
Getting initial chatter of Zeke (Elliot) deal being done. Six year, $90 million extension. Unconfirmed.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

For a guy who will be out of the league in a few years, all that matters is the guaranteed $$$

True. Plus they need some wiggle room to pay down that Romo dead money.

I wouldnt get wrapped up in the reported values of any Elliott deal. Mentioned yesterday that a compromise is simply a long deal to hit an APY. Prorated money only goes 5 years and guarantees usually 3 so any 6 year extension should give #Cowboys an out by 2022

Now you can argue the logic in a big raise for 19 through 21 when you control the rights anyway on the rookie contract and a tag, but thats a different story

          • The Cowboys being my second favorite team, I'm a little bit conflicted about this possible deal. I still remember the debacle of the Emmitt Smith deal a generation ago. True, Elliott is a lot younger, but I wouldn't risk that amount without a lot of "outs" for any RB. They just don't last that long in most cases. Also, arguably, it's the Cowboy O Line that is the cause of Elliott's greatness, and a lot of runners could do just about as well for a helluva lot less money.

            He is damn good, though.
What could be more GOOD and NORMAL and AMERICAN than Packer Football?

            • It's fun to watch him. When he gets hit right at the line of scrimmage, sometimes by two defenders, you think he's stopped for no gain, and the next thing you know, he's gotten seven yards.

OSU RBs are notorious for flaming out. Eddie George is probably the only guy who had a long consistent career running. Byars lasted long but he really didn't run for much. Brockington was even better than any of their recent grads, except Elliot. But Elliot will detonate any year now, mark my words.

That Robert Smith (not The Cure one) was pretty good.

                    • Rams signed Goff to a big extension. Rappaport was early, but Rams announced.

The #Rams & QB Jared Goff have made significant progress on a long-term contract extension that will be done in the coming days, sources say. The deal should pay him more than $32M per year and allow him to cash in early, similar to Carson Wentz. LA locking up more of its future.

                      • Interesting analysis of the Detroit Lions in the Free Press. Can't find the line I was looking for at the moment, but the sum of it was that the Lions lack team speed, but are big.

So we'll see how that philosophy ends up working out for them.

Come on, all players quit at some point.

                          • Most Lions' beat writers think the Leos will go about 8 - 8 this year.

Stonewall Jackson inquired sharply about a missing courier and was told that the boy had just been killed while delivering a message under fire.

“Very commendable, very commendable,” was Jackson’s reply.
