Safe to say Gute has a type with WR's - all but Shepherd is 6'3" or taller.

      Pretty good developmental prospect.

      Overview

One look at Nijman and it is easy to fall in love with the NFL frame and length. When he's on the move, he's fluid and can be effective on the second level. Upon further inspection, his body control is below average and his pass sets have major holes that could be challenging to correct. He's a developmental right tackle in need of extensive coaching for improved pass sets and greater consistency of aim with his run-blocking landmarks. If the coaching lands, he could become a Day 3 value draft pick if medicals check out.

      Strengths

Enticing NFL physique and athletic traits
Has posted explosive vertical leap and weight room numbers
Tapered chest with good thickness through his legs
Has the ability to play with adequate bend
Typically out to solid starts in first phase of the block
Shows potential to create push as drive-blocker
Able to get out in space and make a difference
Connects with accuracy and force on trap pulls
Able to anchor down against power
Aggressive slap to eliminate defender's probing hand

      Weaknesses

Missed three games last year and five in 2017 due to injury
      Waist-bender into run blocks
Hand placement is sloppy and ineffective
Body control and balance to sustain is underwhelming
      Grass-pounder in initial pass slides
      Heel-clicking sets must be corrected
      Leaves inside edge exposed
Slow to throw his hands in run game and pass pro
Unable to prevent rushers from getting to his edge
Plays with poor instincts and a lack of awareness against twists
      I can't run no more
      With that lawless crowd
While the killers in high places

But they've summoned, they've summoned up

QB Wilkins is the #5 rated UDFA at QB
OT Nijman is the #3 rated UDFA at OT
CB Harris is the #10 rated UDFA and Brooks is the #13 rated UDFA at CB

I'm rooting for the North Dakota boys. Brooks looks like a playmaker with 6 interceptions last year. His 40 time was below average (4.62)--though the rest of his workout numbers were excellent. At 6'2" 201 with a 4.64 40 I think Harris projects to safety in the NFL if he were to make it.

              Manny Wilkins

PROS: Has a pretty deep ball. Regularly puts his deep throws on the appropriate leveraged side of the wide receiver, protecting the ball from DBs. Unfearful of throwing under duress and placement doesn't suffer through narrow windows, from adjusted platforms, or when leaping. Has a great sense for space and pressure in the pocket and does well to climb/adjust to extend his pocket life. Only early to break pocket as a runner if the situation is advantageous for such a decision. Has really nice velocity to the short areas--can zip it in tight windows with a quick set and release. Arm strength to boundary and intermediate not as impressive, but still effective--can put a rope 15-20 yards down the field and reach the far boundary in a timely manner.

Has a nice and snappy over the top release with sound lower body mechanics as well on most short to intermediate throws. Has back-shoulder and bucket throws in his repertoire, which helps color in the edges of his deep ball skill set. Does well to make pre-snap RPO decisions and knows how to dissect a coverage shell; poised and unaffected by post-snap movement.

CONS: Has a lot of lean in his back when looking to put air or distance under the football, which can cause ball to sail. Gets a whiplash effect on his throwing motion that can heavily affect accuracy downfield. Is a first-read exclusive quarterback, in part because of tendency to trust WRs, in part because of offensive scheme. Fact remains: rare to see him work to a secondary read, and processing speed and full-field vision must be put into question as a result.

As one would expect when considering offensive structure, low frequency of intermediate/middle of field throws on tape--high reliance on stick concept, flare screens, and verticals. Ability to manipulate deep and shallow zone defenders with eyes/pump fakes not evident on tape. Generally on breaking routes, needs to see receivers uncover--cannot throw them open or anticipate their break creating the necessary space to feed the ball. A little slight in build, though it isn't a huge issue in my eyes. As it stands, good at what he's asked to do--but is a spread quarterback and thereby leaves a lot of boxes with question marks.

It really wouldn't take much to pass up Kizer and/or Boyle for the back-up job. I kinda recall early last season this Wilkins was pretty highly regarded - then he seemed to fade away or something. The mechanics problem mentioned above ought to be curable with some coaching.

Sounds like Wilkins needs a lot of work at reading defenses. Still, he has the arm and is mobile. One thing about LaFleur: Everywhere he goes, QB's excel. Wilkins could be a good developmental prospect.
